4160 half price sotw in MNND

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/06/2018 14:29

picked up Stella McCartneys Pop today for the bargain price of £10. Another blind buy but i looked up the notes on fragrantica and it definitely sounds like something i should like!

PlausibleSuit · 15/06/2018 14:40

Hello. Mind if I join in from time to time? Nothing weakens my financial resolve like a new Bloom sample set (or an allbeauty email, or the Chanel counter...) so I'm hoping I might have found likeminded sorts.

I'm not training anyone today so I can douse myself with impunity... SOTD is Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte EdT. At least it was; it doesn't seem to last very long on me, which is a shame, as it's beautiful.

Finger keeps hovering over some Givenchys on AB but I'm holding myself back.

mrsreynolds · 15/06/2018 15:14

Welcome plausible.

I have strong up to now and resisted the bloom packs....

MrsLucas · 15/06/2018 15:54

Hello Plausible. Welcome - you sound like you belong here Smile.

I

MrsLucas · 15/06/2018 16:03

I have done a bad thing and it's Judy's fault! Grin.

Judy's lavender quest reminded me off another great lavender that has been discontinued; S&B's Suffolk Lavender (huge incense note, with lavender and melon). One of those discontinuations that still feels painful years later. It seemed to have disappeared off the face of the planet, nothing on eBay or Amazon etc.

But I have found some Smile.

Just hope I like it as much as I remember...

PlausibleSuit · 15/06/2018 16:08

Thanks, mrsr and MrsL.

I do. Here are my credit cards. Enable away.

Those sample packs are always a mixed bag. Or pack. There's usually one genuine find, a few that are OK and one or two howlers. I still remember the Day of Etat Libre d'Orange Secretions Magnifiques... Shock Stealing from Victoria Wood but people were backing away with handbags over their noses.

The d'Orange Verte has utterly vanished now. And it was a sample so I can't reapply. I fancied a bottle but it's £84 and I don't think I can justify it for such a short-term gain. Hermes fragrances are usually quite long-lasting; I waft around in Terre d'Hermes or Elixir des Merveilles quite often.

MrsLucas · 15/06/2018 16:32

You're on Plausible - don't say we didn't warn you... Grin.

Thanks for the heads-up on Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters MrsR. That's very tempting - I need to have a quick side by side comparison of Who Knew and MNND. I remember there being some similarities (interesting roses, with both darker and sweeter things happening alongside?). Who can resist a Malteaser note?

OCSock · 15/06/2018 17:01

Hello Plausible, and welcome. My personal nadir, in scent, was the curried skunk that was Haarlem Nights, I am alone in the world in not loathing Secretions, although I probably wouldn't choose it.

CountFosco · 15/06/2018 17:28

Welcome Plausible My adventures with ELDO thanks to Bloom are well documented on here several threads ago. Luckily the same set contained Zoologist Civet which I adored.

SotD Dryad. I think I should just collect green chypres because I love how grown up they make me feel (I'm nearly 50, Mum thinks it's hilarious I still don't feel like a grown up).

BackByDopeDemand · 15/06/2018 17:36

Ooh I love MNND....but no! No buying for now.

I wore the last of my sample of Fille de Berlin today and I am in mourning. Can’t stretch to a FB any time soon 😞. It’s my perfect rose, though!

mrsreynolds · 15/06/2018 19:50

Sote will be sexiest scent

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/06/2018 20:09

Subscribing. Thanks for the new thread.

SOTD was Diptyque Philosykos, topped up with some Shay and Blue Dandelion and Fig in M&S later. I expected to like that more than I did - Philosykos is a really wet, green fig, but the S&B had something sharp that I didn’t enjoy.

So pleased it’s Friday. Now in pjs and JM Wood Sage.

BackByDopeDemand · 15/06/2018 20:41

I’m in L’Instant Magic tonight (powder heavy beauty)) and feeling cross. Perfume criticism can be very one dimensional and biased. Hmph.

Calmanddance · 15/06/2018 21:45

(Slight name change, but it’s still me, Calm!)

Pest, thank you for the new thread. 😊

I wore Cassis en Feuille (Miller Harris) this morning. It is a lovely sharp green fragrance with lots of tomato leaf and tart blackcurrant shoots. It disappears after 3 or 4 hours, though. This afternoon I had a sort out of my perfumes and samples as I was all in a muddle after a bedroom redecoration. I really must make an effort to finish off some of my samples and resist buying more. I have far too many 😨.

BackBy, what criticism? I’m intrigued!

mrsreynolds · 16/06/2018 07:52

Busy day today but public facing....
Hmmm...
What to wear??
Maybe next cashmere?
Soft and comforting.

PlausibleSuit · 16/06/2018 09:04

Mmm cashmere sounds very nice mrsr

I'll be on a boat today. I've gone for Yves Saint Laurent Y. It smells a bit like Invictus. Meh. I was hoping it'd be more salty-ocean and less sweetie-fruity. Not a fruit fan, I'm discovering.

I love the Zoologist line, CountFosco. Just for those illustrations alone. I had a sample of Bat, which didn't work on me but I appreciated the craft of it. Keep meaning to try some more but I've got a bucketload of YSL, Mugler and Chanel samples (someone gave them to me). I need to get through those first, really.

washewihersen · 16/06/2018 09:10

Advice please, I've been reading the perfumista threads for a while and thanks to you bought the cheap MG plum which I wear to work. I do like it but it does remind me of the hairdressers I used to go to in the 80s as a teenager, I think there's a hint of perming lotion in there.

I need a new perfume. I like floral but feel I ought to be more adventurous. I currently have Gucci Bloom, Acqua de Parma Magnolia and the MG. I will never forget a tester I had for Jo Loves Muget and Cedar which was discontinued before I could buy a big one. If i had the money I would buy a big bottle of TF Neroli Portofino, I have to seek out a tester every time I go into the city. My DD15 has Ellie Saab which is teenage sickly but I secretly love it and would also wear it if I was young enough!!

I like the idea of trying some of the 4160 Tuesdays but open to any suggestions. Can anyone recommend me something new and more reasonably priced to try?

MrsLucas · 16/06/2018 10:12

Hi Wash - welcome. Borrow that Ellie Saab with pride! No.1 rule - if you love it, wear it. Know what you mean about Plum's 80's vibe, but could it've been that your hairdresser was wearing Poison, rather than the perming lotion? Grin

Have you seen the 4160Tuesdays sample set ? There are themed collections , or you can pick 7 you like the sound of. Everyone here will have different ideas which to go for! My suggestions:

-Babylon Sunset (gorgeous fruits/florals on vanilla/sandalwood base).
-Rome 1963 (white flowers, cedar and tobacco).
-Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters (rose, bergamot,
moss, and malt - on offer this week, so worth testing in case you love!).
-Shazam! (Uplifting citrus and amber. Does have a hippyish patchouli note which could be a bit marmitey).
-Rhubarb and citrus cologne (hugely refreshing, but you need to like rhubarb.).
-White Queen (non-sweet creamy gourmand - starts with citrus, opens into a gentle incense note).
-Who Knew? (dark red rose, green tea and strawberries).

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 10:35

Welcome new faces, lovely to see you, stick around and bankrupt yourselves Grin

SOTD is MG Fire. I can't believe I dissed this when I first wore it. I absolutely love this spicy incense rose now. I wish I'd bought 100mls...

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 10:40

Aaaargh, just seen that it's back in stock in The Fragrance Shop - £19.50 for 100mls. I absolutely don't need 150mls of it...do I?

mrsreynolds · 16/06/2018 13:10

I really rate the next perfumes
Cashmere is allegedly a dupe of estee lauder sensuous nude

MrsLucas · 16/06/2018 13:10

Wait 'til they have a 20% off happy hour, buy the 100ml, and swap or sell the 50ml on eBay?

CountFosco · 16/06/2018 13:22

Fennel As you know Wink I'm wanting 150ml of Lemon so I say go for it!

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 14:09

Grin count - actually I was just thinking I needed to nip round to the post office to sort that out for you!
