Blue denim, over t-shirt and trainers. I'm average /petite size . I'm 37 tho - is this a massive no-no...??!!!

(Currently in a style crisis)

I'm 43 and short and "curvaceous" (stocky?) and I love love love my dungarees. They are very like Jesustapdancingchrists. I wear them with converse and short sleeved cotton tops and my dd1 aged 19 said they look cool ( she is brutally honest) so I'll keep doing it!

chimpandzee · 13/04/2018 11:21

48 here, bought a black pair last summer and love them! Kids and DH think I look ridiculous but I don't care. I wear them with a stripey t shirt and birkenstock or saltwater sandals in the spring.

TheJoyOfSox · 13/04/2018 12:33

I think they look great on other people. If I was 20 years younger, I’d wear them again. I’m mid 50s now, so probably too old for dungarees this time around, but I wore them in the 1970s as a child and 1980s as a teen (thank you Dexy and your midnight runners) and again late 80s and early 90s as maternity wear.

TheJoyOfSox · 13/04/2018 12:34

Ooh @TheFirstMrsDV. They sound great, may I am still able to wear them! I shall definitely take a look in my local Sainsbury’s, thanks for that tip.

morningconstitutional2017 · 13/04/2018 12:38

I'm not a fan but each to their own and I doubt they'd suit my figure type. One question - do they cause problems when going to the loo? Is there a button arrangement or do you have to pull the thing down? I think I'd find that irritating TBH.

Viviennemary · 13/04/2018 13:24

I hate them. I have never owned a pair. Most unflattering ridiculous items ever possibly only beaten by shell suits.

Figgygal · 13/04/2018 13:26

I'm 37 too and been thinking of getting some

Where can I get some?

steamboatwilly123 · 13/04/2018 13:30

I have navy blue cord ones from Lucy and Yak and they are amazingly comfortable, though my children say I look like a farmer.....Hmm On the lookout for some demin ones, but a lot of places seem to have a skinny leg version and I would prefer something wider.

DanceDisaster · 13/04/2018 13:42

I love them and wore them loads while pregnant last year and into this year. I think they look fab. I can’t wear mine anymore though as they sit wrong on my post cs tum Sad.

Astrabees · 13/04/2018 13:52

61, I love my Top Shop Moto dungarees.

TheFirstMrsDV · 13/04/2018 15:27

theJoy
I mostly get my clothes from Sainsburys now. I love their stuff. A lot of it is hideous but they have some gems.

I got the dungarees in the sales so maybe look online.

TossDaily · 13/04/2018 15:49

Well, my black Hush ones have arrived and they're bloody fab! Very flattering - I can even imagine them with heels and a nice top underneath for the pub.

turnipfarmers · 13/04/2018 15:49

Go for it, wear what you are comfortable it.

This reminds me of my grandmother way back in the 1970s objecting to dungarees, apparently 'those women' wear dungarees, you know the ones that are 'friends' with women Grin

NKFell · 13/04/2018 18:02

I have found my people!!

I LOVE dungarees and have several pairs Grin

Do it!!!

CauliflowerBalti · 13/04/2018 20:17

I love dungarees. I don't even care if they suit me or not. Entirely secondary to their extreme comfort and practicality.

user1471553758 · 13/04/2018 20:26

I have a dungaree fetish (not quite) they are so comfy I’m so pleased other people happily wear them too it just goes to show anything goes no matter your age I love that. I’m 46

heathers00 · 13/04/2018 20:33

I think my legs have shrunk or the straps have stretched. How can I tell ;-)

bippityboppityboop · 13/04/2018 21:38

If it looks good who cares about age? Not seen anyone that looks bad in them yet!

Chimchar · 13/04/2018 21:44

I tried on a pair in Matalan the other day...they looked bloody awful on me!

I used to wear them years ago and utterly loved them.

You've made me NEED to look for a good pair now.

Clarebobacus · 13/04/2018 23:02

Just bought a pair of black dungarees, tbh I am scared to try them on, the last time I wore them was pre kids, they may not cope with the dreaded overhang ugh

whathaveiforgottentoday · 14/04/2018 09:29

yes, if you've got the figure to suit them. I've love to be able to wear dungerees but my boobs are far too big. Love them on other people.

ShopoholicIn · 14/04/2018 10:57

morningconstitutional2017
Hi i find it difficult as i have to take the straps down and the buttons from both sides off n then pee.. n the clanking sounds the buttons make with the toilet seat.. aargh..

But i LOVE MY DUNGAREES

IJustLostTheGame · 14/04/2018 11:41

I'm busty and find the retro ones very flattering.
I stomp about with DMs underneath and feel all landgirly.
In normal shaped dungarees I look a twat.

Thishatisnotmine · 14/04/2018 11:46

jesus where did you get that rug from? Dungerees would make me feel too Millitant Breast Feeder at the moment (I think it would be the loud click to get my breast out!) but love that rug!

speedynamechange73 · 14/04/2018 11:50

I've been having the same dilemma (mid 40s). I've never been able to carry them off BUT I think it's like wearing a hat. You have to wear it if you know what I mean. You have to have the confidence that you look good.

I look a bit like a large toddler in them I think. DSis and a good friend both have them and look amazing, they are completely different shapes and sizes to each other but it works. DSis is very cool though and I am not and I think that's the problem!
