Is this top really ageing/unflattering?

I always like the look of these Crew rugby shirts. www.crewclothing.co.uk/rugby-top-whe002-whtblu/
They have one in the sale now and I thought I might try it. I'm in my 20s and I know the tops aren't the height of stylishness, but are they really ageing and unflattering ?

It's what the women at the yacht club near me wear. I'm not sure if that is the look i would go for myself though.

LivBonas · 02/04/2018 15:03

@mogloveseggs Does your friend wear them with jeans? I'm tempted to order it and try it, especially as it's in the sale. I can always send it back I guess.

Interested to see people's opinions on them. I am in my 30s and live in Breton tops. I also thought these would be a good alternative. I wouldn't wear them with the collar up, so thought that would be ok, but obviously not!

lattewith3shotsplease · 02/04/2018 15:06

OP,
It shouldn't matter what other people think about your clothes.

Wear what you like as long as you have the confidence to "wear it well"

I think the top is really nice and would happily wear it. Smile

mistermagpie · 02/04/2018 15:06

I'm 37 and very unstylish but I wouldn't be caught dead in that, sorry!

mogloveseggs · 02/04/2018 15:07

Yes she does with skinny jeans I think. She’s into horses so it’s a pretty standard look in those circles I think? (I’m not horsey) and just really suits her. Never looks scruffy at all.

seethesunaftersnow · 02/04/2018 15:07

I'm 32 and I'm sorry but it's a big fat no. How old are you op?

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 02/04/2018 15:08

Tbh, I do think it's the kind of thing worn by older people - but what's wrong with being older?

EasterBunBun · 02/04/2018 15:10

My neighbour in her 30s wears those all the time and they look great on her but her whole vibe is very sporty and the shape suits her. I love the Crew Breton tops as the fabric seems to improve with age and the cut is perfect for me. Is it just me ( totally average size and proportion in everything else ) but are Boden sleeves verrrry long ?

LivBonas · 02/04/2018 15:10

Yes, I'd wear them with skinny jeans as just an easy outfit as well (not with the collar up though!). Wow, I didn't know a rugby top was so divisive, I'm completely torn. I am certainly not equestrian so I don't think I could pull it off really.

I always wear Breton tops and want to try something different, if not the rugby top, does anyone else have any suggestions?

Op try it and see. You might be pleasantly surprised.

liveandletbe · 02/04/2018 15:16

I have no fashion sense, I don;t even care, but that would be a step lower for me. Belongs in the Beckham for idiots line.

LivBonas · 02/04/2018 15:16

I'm going to try it, although it might be one of those items that I buy and it languishes in the wardrobe, I don't want to be judged wearing it, there's a lot of opinions floating around about these tops evidently !

OP posts:
DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 15:18

think it could be unflattering, but OK if you were going horse riding or sailing.

LivBonas · 02/04/2018 15:18

A few people have said they are not stylish, but still say the top is awful... do you mind answering why it's so awful? I'm interested, as I was immediately drawn to it !

OP posts:
DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 15:19

I must admit I am 53 and not v stylish but wouldn't wear that. I might have when I worked with horses.

lattewith3shotsplease · 02/04/2018 15:19

OP,
How on earth are you going to be judged ?

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 15:20

its just a bit square and shapeless tbh.

It looks like the kind of thing Johnny Boden thinks women should wear.

LivBonas · 02/04/2018 15:20

latte, I meant judged as in judged to be very unstylish! I meant it in a jokey way, sorry if that didn't come across

British Home Stores ?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 02/04/2018 15:22

I'm a bit older than you-I also gravitate toward preppy, classic looks.
I think the top is cute and will be nice to throw on - but then I also love a breton top.

DullAndOld · 02/04/2018 15:22

if you like stripes, (as do I)TK Max do a nice fitted Breton top..at least they did a year or two ago.

RoadToRivendell · 02/04/2018 15:22

I was under the impression that a shrunken rugby shirt was au courant.

I tried one on at J.Crew the other day and I decided I'm too old to pull the look off (45) - too close to a middle-aged tourist, as one has suggested. I think it would look fantastic on someone in their 20s.

SandraGreen · 02/04/2018 15:22

Even the models look shit in them.

Too square and frumpy.

If you want to look like a 66 year old American tourist then go ahead.
