Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

MARCH 2018: We managed to live through hairmageddon without any major losses. We welcomed some new inquisitive faces, reunited with some much missed old ones, and are delighted at the thought of a baby snail on its way. Now, all we need is the weather to start cooperating and match the levity in our moods…

Ah good news about the samples Mint. Smile

Tantpoke · 06/04/2018 16:45

Yes I could probably do with a shade in-between fair and light tbh mint but I'm more than happy with Alaska. You should ask them to send you one of the lighter ones as well and you could mix them for the right shade.

I do this with a lot of my other foundations esp during the change of Seasons I always have a couple of shades on the go.

My skin colour and my weight seem to fluctuate from one week to the next Hmm

I feel very exhausted today so have given myself the excuse of having to dye my hair as a get out clause of doing anything productive.

mintmagnummm · 06/04/2018 17:27

Tant that's a good idea but I just cba mixing two shades and I can't afford the initial layout of the cost of two :-(. Let's hope one of the samples is the perfect match! I think itcosmetics are adding a fair/light shade which is in between the two but not sure how long until it's added to the UK

Tantpoke · 06/04/2018 17:38

The only reason mint I usually end up with 2 shades is mainly because once I catch the sun I have to get a darker shade anyway or vice versa so they are there to mix if required.

Be interesting to see how you get on with the samples and fingers crossed they work out for you.

I like the Space NK near me, really nice staff so I'll repurchase my Nars from them.

SallieSallow · 06/04/2018 18:25

I often have to buy two shades of foundation and mix, bit of a pain tbh especially for travel. Mint if you did ever want to RP the IT cosmetics CC cream there is a vastly wider shade range available in the US than the U.K. so might be worth seeing if you can order from there if p&p is not too expensive.

I keep meaning to go to space NK but my nearest one is in the Trafford centre (enormous indoor mall) and I absolutely loathe that place. Seeing as I'm on a buying ban it's probably best avoided at the moment anyway Smile

mintmagnummm · 06/04/2018 18:52

Ah that makes sense tant I'm the same shade all year lol even when I came back from 2 weeks abroad I went to no7 counter to be colour matched as I though I had a healthy golden glow only to be matched to the same shade I was before 😂.

Thanks Sallie if I don't like the nars I'll definitely look into p&p from the US

EnidButton · 06/04/2018 19:52

Sallie The T Centre is where I go too. Can only do it once or twice a year though as I end up spending ££££ and I swear it's a time vortex. You pop in for an hour and come out 8 hours later. Blush And every time I swear never again. It's best in small doses. Do they still have a space nk?

SallieSallow · 06/04/2018 20:23

Enid according to the space NK website there's still one there. I haven't braved the Trafford centre for ages as I find it very claustrophobic and makes me feel faint/sick/panicky. I don't like any indoor malls or big department stores either, since on line shopping became a thing I rarely 'in person' shop anywhere anymore apart from food and the occasional mooch round Boots or primark if they're not busy.

mintmagnummm · 06/04/2018 20:40

Sallie I just checked the US itcosmetics website but they only have the same shades that we do.

EnidButton · 06/04/2018 20:46

Sallie I can't shop in person as much anymore but much prefer online anyway. I know our dpd driver very well now. Must admit I'm a sucker for a glossy high end make up counter though. I like swatching things.

It's just showing as St Ann's Square in Manchester for me btw. Not that either of us are going anyway. Grin

miffy2 · 06/04/2018 21:26

IT Cosmetics have released their new foundation (or bye bye foundation moisturising cream as they call it but it is a foundation lol) in tons of shades but IIRC they only have the same 7 shades of the CC cream in both UK and US. Hopefully they will expand it; for me it has holy grail status.

SallieSallow · 06/04/2018 21:40

Maybe the TC one has closed then Enid so yes would be St Anne's Square for me too, but I rarely venture into Manchester either. And I've got to know my DPD, yodel, Hermes and Amazon couriers pretty well, I've even got their numbers saved in my phone Grin

Mint I could have sworn I saw more shades on the Ulta website but think I was looking at the tinted moisturiser which seems to come in more options, I wouldn't mind trying that when it's launched here.

mintmagnummm · 06/04/2018 21:50

I got my period this morning and I'm craving rubbish! Have had lots of sugar today, had a scone, a cornetto and am now eating a big sharing bag of revels but not sharing them 😂

mintmagnummm · 06/04/2018 21:53

Sallie hot and flashy did a comparison of the itcosmetics cc cream and that new bye bye foundation, she said there's not much in it she loves both but if she had to pick only one it would be the new bye bye foundation.
Just out of interest how do you apply the cc cream? Do u use your fingers or a blender? Also how much do you use? If I use 1 full pump that's waaay too much and makes me look bloody awful! I only do half a pump maybe even less!

SallieSallow · 06/04/2018 22:27

I think the bye bye foundation looks really good, I'm well stocked up on the cc cream but would break my buying ban to get my mitts on it Grin

I apply about half a pump of the cc cream (maybe slightly more but not much) with a damp beauty blender, when I first got it I did a full pump and it was too much - and I like fairly full cover. I've got the brushes that come with it (sets from QVC) but prefer the Beauty blender as think I get better open pore coverage with it.

EnidButton · 06/04/2018 23:10

Me too Mint! I've been polishing off the last of the Easter chocolates. I feel bloated but I swear it's helped the cramps. M&S dark chocolate sour cherries and truffles. Resisting the Lindt bunny...Easter Blush

EnidButton · 06/04/2018 23:10

an ear won't hurt though will it..?

EnidButton · 06/04/2018 23:10

or two

Tantpoke · 06/04/2018 23:49

You've eaten it all haven't you enid Wink

EnidButton · 07/04/2018 02:20

Grin I resisted! I'll eat it tomorrow

mintmagnummm · 07/04/2018 07:27

Sallie do you dip the blender in the products then press it in to skin? Or do you dot the product all over face then blend?

Enid 😂** terrible isn't it!

Ollivander84 · 07/04/2018 09:25

No space NK in Trafford now, closed quite a while ago

SallieSallow · 07/04/2018 10:01

Thanks Olli just as well I didn't go looking for it, would have been most disgruntled if I'd braved the much hated TC only to find no space NK Grin

Mint I pump the cc cream on to my hand and then dip the BB into it. The BB does sheer it out a bit but I find it seems to press it into my pores so they aren't as visible, when I use a brush it seems to sit on top of my skin more.

I've also been nibbling on Lindt bunnies this week, down to the last one now, ears are gone and will probably finish the rest of him off this weekend.

Tantpoke · 07/04/2018 11:08

Is it even Easter if you don't have a Lindt bunny Grin

Shop · 07/04/2018 14:06

I don’t have a Lindt bunny 😔 did demolish a twirl egg though 😂
I’ve taken advantage of Escentual 1/3 off French pharmacy to try some moisturisers - I have Avene Tolerance Emulsion, eucerin 5% urea and also Vichy mineral 89 Serum. Not sure which to try first!
