Thread 11 Thread 12

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

MARCH 2018: We managed to live through hairmageddon without any major losses. We welcomed some new inquisitive faces, reunited with some much missed old ones, and are delighted at the thought of a baby snail on its way. Now, all we need is the weather to start cooperating and match the levity in our moods…

Confused not sure I am clear on your colouring Enid.... see Bo mentions warm colours when discussing tights. Oh well

This is what antibiotics do to me 😫

Ignore my dressing gown 🤭

botemp · 11/05/2018 07:16

Like Liz Taylor, pale with yellow (warm) undertones, as opposed to pale with pink (cool) undertones, Sophie.

Jumpsuits work great for some body types but hourglasses have very small waists so they tend to get lost in something like a jumpsuit as that'll be made with an average waist in mind and you can't size down on account of hips, boobs and shoulders.

I love the colour of that dress, peony. Think it would look great on you too Enid.

JD I think I am just going to get some spf in from amazon. Need to just do it now so I don't get distracted and forget again!

Some lovely dresses at the links below Smile
Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

EnidButton · 11/05/2018 16:01

I thought Liz T was cool undertones? I am definitely cool to neutral toned, not warm. Right, more Liv Tyler or Anne Hathaway then. But with green/hazel eyes.

Lovely dress Peony but too much black makes me look a bit goth which is fine but not the look I'm going for. Grin That said I might try the first Coast dress and see what I think.

I'm still going to get some tights as a safety net if my legs get shaving rash or whatever those red dots are. Argh, why am I finding this so hard? 🙄

EnidButton · 11/05/2018 16:04

Oh! It's GREEN not black. 🙄Blush Sorry! I had my night vision thing on my phone, turned it off and behold! the black turned into a gorgeous deep green. Thank you, definitely worth a closer look.

TantricTwist · 11/05/2018 16:53

I used my TO powdered Vit C for the first time today I mixed it in with my LRP toleraine mosituriser and the sea kelp and it dissolved nicely no grittiness at all so I'm going to use it more often now in the am. I haven't been outside so no SPF.
I think on days I use SPF I will just mix it in with the sea kelp coral as it dries well.

enid good luck finding your perfect dress

SophieLion · 11/05/2018 17:19

I'm confused too Enid Confused** In some photos (when she was younger mainly) Liz looks like she has very white, porcelain skin (cool tones - Anne Hathaway style) and then other photos (when she's a bit older) her skin looks much darker and her overall look is warmer.
Anyway it's your colouring that's more important Grin Hope you find something lovely.

SallieSallow · 11/05/2018 18:43

I always of think of Liz Taylor as cool toned too but maybe I'm misremembering or like Sophie says she changes depending on when/how she is photographed.

I love that green dress peony I'm sad I can never wear something like that, if I buy the right size for my bottom half I have absolutely nothing to fill out the top half Sad it seems to be a standard assumption that women of size 14 plus will have big-ish boobs which I do not. I even struggle to find tops sometimes that aren't too big/gaping round the bust.

Mint that looks like a rash/allergic reaction to me and very sore Sad Have you told the doctor that you react like that to antibiotics? Maybe they could prescribe you a different type.

botemp · 11/05/2018 19:02

I´m sure ET was made up like a cool toned person in her early days, it was pretty impossible to get yellow toned makeup until recently and I´m guessing the beauty ideal was more in line with Northern European pale anyhow.

Enid, you're the one confusing me now. You always mentioned having colouring like Lisa Eldridge and Sali Hughes and they're both pale with yellow undertones.

Sallie yep the doc has seen pics and knows about it. I have literally tried every antibiotic there is and have the same reaction even if I take piriton too! They just kind of shrug and say well if u want to get better u have to put up with the rash but it's easier said than done isn't it 😔

peonylover22 · 11/05/2018 19:32

Is it painful Mint? I blistered up when I had penicillin as a child and am absolutely forbidden to take it as a result. If you get the same reaction after taking piriton there must be a common ingredient? Maybe ask whether your medicine is available in liquid form?
Sallie are you a pear shape? (I am one). I wonder whether the skirt of the dress might be quite forgiving over bottom / hips meaning there was no need to size up for bottom and consequently a better fit on the top?
