Yay!! Congrats on the move @CantChoose!!!

I LOVED The Body Shop in the eighties!!! There was a peachy smelly soap I used to kill for!

My problem is that I just can't bring myself to use an inferior product - so for exanple I have 3 packs of a mineral foundation that I used to like but then realised made me cakey. I've since discovered Pixi powder foundation which I love so there's no way I'm gkwing to use the old mineral foundations. I do the same with everything - I kind of see beauty purchases as continually developing and looking for the best version of myself rather than the product itself. Am I making sense? Basically I couldn't just use products up for the sake of it if I have a HG item in that category.

ememem84 · 08/04/2018 09:37

JM can you gift the stuff you don’t want?

JMAngel1 · 08/04/2018 11:31

Yes, I do if it's not too yucky and not for eyes or lips. I actually take things in to work and leave them in the toilets with a note - take what you want - no one knows it's me as I'd be embarrassed. My mum and best friend have said "no more please!"
I sell unopened stuff on ebay sometimes too.

Beketaten · 09/04/2018 01:45

Jumping into this thread! I have a real hoarding problem. I could open a shop with what I've got stored in piles of boxes in the spare room. Cleared one box tonight, threw away some lipsticks I wore as a student - I'll be 42 next birthday! Blush

ememem84 · 10/04/2018 08:51

Empty - clarins gentle cleanser. I love this. It smells like peaches. Will definetly rebut but have a cleansing milk to use next.

Experiment627 · 10/04/2018 09:58

@JMAngel1 have you thought about selling your unwanted stuff on ebay or donating to a woman's shelter?

Welcome newbies!

I think we need a new list for items to use up? What could be the next milestone date now that Easter is out of the way?

Experiment627 · 11/04/2018 06:57

@Strawberryfield12 I am doing 21 by summer solstice

I have an empty!

  • Lactovit deodarant - really liked this. Came from my Spain haul
OP posts:
Strawberryfield12 · 11/04/2018 07:23

O, I like that experiment! I will join in! I have already put mentally on my next list about 10 products. Don’t know why but lists definitely help focusing and is more fun.

CantChoose · 11/04/2018 08:07

Moving and having to unpack every single item of my hoard has really sunk in how much I have Blush
On the up side I've drawn in DH - I unpacked the bathrooms and I arranged his cologne and body sprays/ deodorants in order with the least left at the front. He's already used two cologne and one spray. He's been very excited to report his progress to me each time! (what do you all call men's fragrances?? Cologne sounds weird but it's not really aftershave...)
I finished a glam glow mask last night. I find the menthol in it a bit stingy and offputting. And it's very, very black!! My skin feels lovely today but the last couple of times I've broken out after using it so we will see!!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 11/04/2018 11:04

Have just finished a Mac Prep + Prime 6ml sample. It was quite nice, but glittery. I don’t really notice after I have applied foundation though.
It was in a little tube and I cut it open after I could not squeeze more out - there was a surprisingly large amount left; enough for 7 days.
I would buy this - it looks great under ELDW, but I have other products to use up first.

I have also binned a mascara from Essence as it smudges a lot and really quickly on me. It had really good reviews, but it did not work for me. It was the Volume stylist 18h in the purple tube.

I have binned a Clinique lash power mascara as it is dry and getting old. I really love this one as it is a tubing mascara - it doesn’t smudge or flake, but it is hard to remove. I will definitely buy this again, but I have some other mascaras I need to use up first.

And I have finished a Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil which was nice, but I am not sure I will purchase again.

ememem84 · 11/04/2018 17:08

I’ve dug our some old nail polish and am waiting for the first coat on my toes to dry.

I almost bought Chanel rouge noir today. But. Spendy. Then almost booked a pedicure. But have foot scrub cream and nail polish here.

Experiment627 · 12/04/2018 07:08

@ememem84 well done on resisting Chanel nail varnish - TBH I really do not like their formula, I always get a much better finish from Rimmel!
#cheapskate

I have an empty:

  • Molton Brown relaxing yuan zhi pulse point balm: it had lost its smell - but actually did help with sleep
OP posts:
RiskIt4Biscuit · 12/04/2018 10:29

Another empty: Kérastase Elixir Ultime (yellow/gold bottle).
Loved this one, but I suspect it contained loads of silicone, so not sure if it is as good for the hair as I would like it to be.
I will probably purchase again in the future, but I have some other hair products I want to use up first. I will be missing the scent of this one though.

trigger2 · 12/04/2018 12:31

Just a couple for me:
Garnier naturals maple sap conditioner - feels nice on my hair when rinsing but I don’t feel my hair stays soft when it’s dry so unsure if I’d repurchase
Molton Brown ylang shower gel - I love this and will replace at some point but have other things to finish first.

Next to finish should be:
Garnier shampoo as above
Mitchum roll on - love it
Avene Recovery Cream - love it
Simple Micellar water - does the job but stings my eyes

suchatiredbunny · 12/04/2018 15:04

Another staple finished here, a full size liz Earle toner. I have a travel size one and half an Elemis travel size one to use before I buy another (might go for an Elemis instead next time, for a change).

I may have ordered the tsv on qvc earlier......I was going to resist, but I cracked. Oops.

However, I'm quite pleased with the level I've reduced my stash too, next challenge is to shrink the big drawer down to a small drawer (the household stash, ie toothpaste, toiletries for the kids etc). This is not so much a case of using things up as not buying new stuff before we need it.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 12/04/2018 15:31

Good work everyone. I’m back from week away in London and managed a fab use up of things; deodorant, 3 face cream samples, shampoo and conditioner samples, sun cream spray, tinted spf, bath bomb, 2 sample face masks, toothpaste. And left samples behind in hotel. Good going for me.

Say nothing about perfume sample splurging in convent garden. Blush

ememem84 · 12/04/2018 15:36

Had a super sleepless night last night. Ha a migraine which was probably brought on by me not drinking enough water. Ick.

Full on day today and we’ve just got home. I collected my Clinique moisturiser from the Feelunique store and have done some comparisons with my usual clarins one. It’s slightly cheaper and there’s slightly more in the pot.

I’ve just taken all my make up off and slathered on my night moisturiser.

Ds and catface are both napping on my bed. I may join them. But first must drink my body weight in water!

Treeballarae · 12/04/2018 16:02

Catching up, hello and welcome to all the new posters!

rosewater you asked about thermal waters a couple of pages back, I use thermal waters and toners for different things. Thermal waters I use when my face is hot (so e.g.after exercise) or to dampen down masks or cleansers to ease removal or if I'm in an area where my skin doesn't like the tapwater. Toners I use as a moisturising step after cleansing and before serums. I've got the Vichy thermal water to try next, are you liking it?

ememem - did your DH buy you 27 more moisturisers in the end!?

Experiment I know lots of people who love the almond stuff from L'Occitane so don't let my funny sense of smell put you off! In fact I like the almond hand cream which most folk think smells the same as the shower oil but I find they smell different. The shower oil smells sweeter to me. I agree with you on the La Source hand cream though, it smells nothing like the La Source soap which I love the smell of!

ememem84 · 12/04/2018 16:20

Tree no he didn’t!! I’ll mention it to him when he gets home (although I’m not sure I want 27 more moisturisers...but a promised present is a promised present!)

Treeballarae · 12/04/2018 16:20

Progress of my 21 for longest day list:

MV Organics jojoba oil - smelled like smoky bacon crisps so I couldn't use it on my face as planned but it made my shins and toenails nice and glossy!

Lierac eye cream - it was a TK Maxx purchase last year so probably discontinued now, but it was nice, didn't irritate, appeared to reduce my fine lines.

Senspa handwash - love this, smells like a spa like name suggests, but only buy it when it's on special offer and I'm in Waitrose which is rarely - lots of others to use up

Elemis pro radiance cream cleanser - this used to be a winter holy grail product but doesn't suit my skin any more, probably due to essential oils

Napiers arnica cream - bought this to get free P&P hoping it would be similar to the Neal's Yard arnica balm, but it's not the same after all, not enough slip to massage with.

A couple of off-list use ups too:
Baume de rose lip balm sample - love the smell (a soft rose smell like an old fashioned powder compact), love the taste but not moisturising enough.

Green People Fruitful Nights night cream - smells like peach yoghurt, the fragrance didn't irritate my skin and it felt nice on my face, not too light, not too heavy, might buy once I've used more creams up.

Treeballarae · 12/04/2018 16:32

ememem, indeed a promise is a promise Grin, maybe as a compromise he could just give you the money equivalent of those 27 moisturisers.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 14/04/2018 09:07

My empties:
Neutrogena body lotion - would rebuy
The Ordinary Buffet serum - fantastic and have already repurchased
Dolce Vita perfume - had for years, finally finished!
Boots Matte Velvet foundation - not actually finished but pump broke. Found texture kind of thick and heavy anyway.
Body Shop travel size Argan Oil body butter - it was ok
Barnagen Cloudberry shower gel travel size - love this, will buy full size once I’ve used some others up
