SOTD - 4160 sleep knot (again!)

BluebellGal · 28/02/2018 09:52

SOTD Ormonde Jayne Tsarina- perfect for the snow as it’s a warm floriental

Noses.... has to be Daniela Andrier for all the wonderful Pradas (some seriously good flankers which are very welcome, not just filling the shelves), Ruth Mastenbroek for some wonderful floral blends that just keep going all day long, Sarah McCartney for all the fun and nostalgia, also Jean Claude Elena just because he way a bit of a trailblazer and created some of my favourites (Bulgari The Vert, Sisley Eau du champagne).

But my main love is Francis Kurkdjian he is the gift that keeps on giving. I love many in his Maison collection (shame its out of my reach) and he is responsible for my husband and beautiful child (Le Male circa 2002. I thought to myself ‘what is that smell?’ Followed my nose and found my future husband). The man is a genius- still fairly young and has one of the largest lists on fragrantica. He is also a trailblazer- not only Le Male, but he created NR For Her at a time when the Perfume world was obsessed with clean scents and that was a dirty sexy musk, but a modern interpretation and really different. Not so fussed about JHAG as a house, but his Lady Vengeance is amazing. Love the man for bringing me such joy.

teta · 28/02/2018 09:54

Songes today.
I love heady florals in cold weather. Must dig out my samples of Nahema & Plum for tomorrow.
Went to bed with numerous sprays of Drole de Rose plus a dressing gown n thermals and This Works Deep Sleep spray. The sleep spray was a bit too strident with the Rose unfortunately but I slept really well once I got used to the ❄️❄️✨

BluebellGal · 28/02/2018 09:54

MrsReynolds iscentyouaday has written a piece on Knowing- it’s one of her favourites too!

positivepineapple · 28/02/2018 10:20

I'm just learning about noses, I can safely say I'm a fan of (most) Olivier Cresp creations.

SOTD is my first love - Angel, I've gone for the EDT over the EDP - don't want my colleagues to hate me.

OCSockOrphanage · 28/02/2018 10:35

You are completely right MrsG, how could I have overlooked Andy Tauer and Christopher Sheldrake? In fact, the rich seams of olfactory invention know no bounds, thanks be. Even if our bank accounts and cards would disagree...

teta · 28/02/2018 11:06

My favourite noses are Annick Goutal who was responsible for so many beauty’s. Eau d Hadrien was my first niche perfume in my twenties. Sophia Grojsman - her Calyx was quite revolutionary at the time and Paris was a lush beauty. Latterly I really rate Francis Kurkdjian as his perfumes are so accessible and easy to wear. Also Lyn Harris, Liz Moore’s and Linda Pilkington for innovative lines and originality.
John Paul Guerlain for some absolute masterpieces, less so Thierry Wasser.

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 11:23

SOTD is the much-maligned White Minger, J'Adore Grin. I love a white floral in cold weather.

Enid. How did you get on with Insolence in the end?

MrsG That sounds like a fierce 4160 combo! Grin

teta I love Songes in cold weather. Glorious.

I cant believe there are that many La Petit Robe Noire flankers
(I didn't even like the original!) Grin. Jeez Louise. Flankers are big business it would seem. Perfume tribes are loyal to their loves.

I do have a soft spot for the Poision flankers, I'll admit. Poison Girl and Tendre are my least favourite, but I like Pure and Hypnotic and I bloody loved Midnight Poison before they cruelly discontinued it. There should be a limit, though. And a bit of quality control. The modern Poison Extrait is a piss-take. Its not even as strong as the original EDP.

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 11:29

I'm only really exploring Noses very recently.

Other than Sophia G, I do seem to like a lot of Thierry Wasser.

Also Jacques Cavalier (Midnight Poison, Poeme, Cinema, Stella, JPG Classique) and Sylvaine Delacourt (Insolence, L'Instant Magic - lovely, sugar plum fairy fragrances, basically).

I'm not yet down with more niche stuff, as still having too much fun getting to know mainstream and vintage stuff. That journey is yet to come!

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 11:47

Yesyesyes, to Sheldrake and Tauer - both artists imo.

BluebellGal · 28/02/2018 12:20

Ooh yes Lyn Harris and Linda Pilkington also very good- I wear a lot of their creations (today in fact with Tsarina!)

mrsreynolds · 28/02/2018 13:48

Been to town.
Had a few sniffs...nothing that I was keen on. In fact I will say that Gucci bloom is a PM 🤢
Came home to lovely package 😁
But haven't had chance to sniff them yet...

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 28/02/2018 14:03

I couldn't even begin with knowing who the noses are behind the perfumes i wear Blush it's just not something that ever occurs to me to look into

I have an actual shelf now to house my perfumes, a whole shelf in my wardrobe!!! Before they were all boxed up so i couldn't have too many out on rotation but we've moved into a bigger room int he house share we are in and i now have the space to have them all easy enough to get to Smile

SOTD is a bodyshop Smokey Rose body spray. I didn't fancy wearing anything much as i'm just in my pjs and oneise so hardly looking stylish right now

MotherofTerriers · 28/02/2018 15:51

Well the meeting went on all day and then a quick cab to the airport so no sniffing opportunities other than at the airport. I had a look at the Molton Brown perfumes and I really wanted to like them but I didn't. Tried Versace Dylan Blue but didn't think it was anything special but a pretty bottle
Not an easy journey back and snowed in now. But....drumroll, today's scent for me is Pomelo Paradis and I really like this - result!

EnidButton · 28/02/2018 16:15

SoFancy I'm waiting until Saturday so I can wear it for a full day. I didn't have it on long enough the other night so couldn't make my mind up. I get bad headaches so have had to have a few days wearing nothing. Interested to see if it changes from my initial thoughts. (Posted upthread so I can check back.) Smile

EnidButton · 28/02/2018 16:17

Can I ask about storage? Is it best to keep them boxed so light can't get to them? Although that seems a shame as I love a well designed bottle. I'm assuming cool temps are best?

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 16:21

Yes, storage-wise keep them out of light and away from heat. My samples are all boxed and in a drawer, FBs still in original boxes and stored in a cupboard.

No pretty bottles on the dressing table, despite finally having an actual dressing table (bliss) that cries out for pretty bottles!

I sound like one of those Comic-Con geeks Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 16:44

bluebell I love the story about you sniffing out your future husband btw!

EnidButton · 28/02/2018 16:44

Grin thank you Fennel. I used to have them on my dressing table but then a half full bottle of Chanel coco Mademoiselle went off during last summer so it made me wonder. I keep my new bottle of it in the box. Luckily it's a cool room anyway but gets a lot of sunlight.

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 17:20

I don’t always keep boxes (celeb ragrabces, cheapies etc) as I’m impatient and find opening the box a faff. I keep boxes for favourites and expensive stuff.

But yes, all in the dark in my wardrobe.

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 17:20

Fragrances = incomprehensible word above

PerfumeIsAMessage · 28/02/2018 18:20

I have just put a PP order in. I didn't win any of yesterday's ebay bids so thought I'd treat myself.

I have ordered

No Malone Black velvet cafe
" Lime Basil Mandarin
Sweet Lime and Cedar
Incense and Embers
Chergui
24 Faubourg
Samsara
White Linen
Spellbound

Knowing is out of stock, I was coming on to mention that ISYAD had an article on it, but been beaten to it.

I am in Aromatics Elixir again and have put a bottle in an allbeauty basket but have already ordered a truck load of Lush bubble bars as well as the PP stuff so might need to hide credit card now.

Noses of mine
Germaine Cellier for the perfection that is Vent Vert and the soapy skank monster that is Bandit
Sophia Grojsman for Paris
Jacques Polge for Rive Gauche
Andy Tauer for Lonestar Memories
Jacques Guerlain for LHB, Vol de Nuit and Shalimar
Roudnitska for Diorella
Dominique Ropion for Ysatis and Safari

(looking at that list, I think I can safely say that as far as perfumery goes I do NOT go for subtle Grin)

Perfume/houses I don't get- well, for now that would have to be 4160 and Lancome. O de Lancome is a joy and makes my heart sing, but everything else mings. (I want hold of some Magie Noir though which may make me change my mind, but I swear I still have that bloody woman's Tresor in my nostrils from 1994 when I sat next to her)

If I had to have the perfumes of only one house forever, it would be a toss up between Dior and Guerlain. (only the old stuff obvs)

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 18:48

Thats a mighty PP order, PIAM. Very jealous! Grin

I'm distraught this evening. I won a mini Poison extrait on eBay which arrived today. Sniffed it for the first time in years and it was divine. Dabbed a little on my neck and was in heaven for about half an hour....then got an absolute KILLER headache that just won't go away. I never get headaches! Gutted.

auberginesrus · 28/02/2018 19:02

Mrs G Grin hope you're enjoying! I tried the Mary Greenwell Lemon you sent me last night, its fabulous, I love it. Although more summery than suitable for current weather conditions I think. Am now stalking some on Ebay as it appears to be discontinued Sad

With regard to noses, I am much too much of a novice to know anything, but when I looked up a few of the names above I recognised quite a few Sophia Grosjman perfumes I have known and loved, notably Sun Moon Stars and Paris (but also as teens we would buy Exclamation cos it was really cheap!).

SOTD was 100 bon Iris et Cedre again, I'm finding it really comforting

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 28/02/2018 19:27

I think I need to start listing noses in my journal as generally I don't have a clue. Jacques Polge is a good call though PIAM - am enjoying my Exclusifs samples.

In snow update, but heavier here today. No shows stopped but I can see tomorrow being touch and go. Suspect my Oriane won't arrive in time to invest in half price FB if I love it but if that's the worst consequence of the bad weather I'll not grumble! Hope any perfumistas in Scotland are ok...

SotD was Floral Street Wonderland Peony. It was ok but I suspect some of you would find this one PM territory.
