Evening! On and off snow today in my bit of the West Midlands. Excited/histrionic twittering at work at lunch time as the certain world ending snow storm started. Needless to say it had all melted away within an hour...

Will be trying So's Samsara tip tonight I think. Lovely!

Have been eyeing up eBay and losing lots of auctions. It sort of feels like saving money Perfumista logic... Anyone else spot the "Chanel Miss Dior" listing?

SotD was going to be Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel but sorry to say I scrubbed it. Sprayed first thing and just got pure leather. Not keen but stuck with... by the time I was ready to leave for work it had settled to generic men's shower gel so I scrubbed and took a lucky dip in my samples box- got Chloe. Better than the MH but not super keen. Got peach but also something else (a white flower I think but not sure which) which was less keen on. Ah well...

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 19:42

Oooh fancy...SO many!!
I've been disappointed by most 4610s Ive tried but I'll forgive them for sexiest scent 😁

Shalimar - on paper it sounds perfect. It's just...meh. In fact all the guerlains I've tried are meh if not proper PM!!

POAL is dusty pot pourri. Exactly. Musty rotting leaves.
LR is very like TKD...sickly rose.

Lancome...dont like any Ive tried.

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 19:44

...and don't get me started on chanel!!...

[Hands back perfumista credentials]

OCSockOrphanage · 27/02/2018 19:57

At the risk of upsetting you all, I won O de Lancome, aged 16, in a magazine competition (Honey). It was a huge bottle, rather pretty, too. About 500ml, believe it or not! I was 16, so probably supplied the whole boarding house for months. Now, I remember citrus.

EnidButton · 27/02/2018 19:58

So I couldn't wait and squooshed some of the Guerlain Insolence onto my wrist. Initial impressions are that it's stronger than I expected so an air spray and sashay might be better than direct to wrist for future wears.

Soft, full bodied sweet floral straight away, with violet dominating but there's also something sharp in there which could be the orange blossom? Not getting any fruity notes. Not as powdery as expected. There's a lot going on with it that I'm hoping will calm down as it dries down (think that's the right term?).

Unfortunately I've just remembered I'm washing my hair tonight so I won't get to experience it fully before it gets washed off.

Not instant love but not disliking it either. Need to sit with this one for a while. Will wear it for a full day at the weekend and see how we get on together.

OCSockOrphanage · 27/02/2018 20:04

WRT perfume noses, everyone has some they avoid. But, Ropion is not one of mine (I like PoaL). Christine Nagel doesn't often hit my spot; the Sarah M I like best is Zoologist Macaques. In fact, JCE is the only nose whose creations I actively follow, and his aesthetic is very spare, which I increasingly find a little too ethereal.

SoFancy · 27/02/2018 20:09

I’m a big, blousy, sucker for romance...my nose love is Sophia Grojsman. And I’m not ashamed! Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 27/02/2018 20:18

It's Bertrand Duchaufour for me, I think - Avignon, Amour Nocturne, Aedes de Venustas, Or de Serail... He does 'a bit unusual but accessible' beautifully, in my (admittedly very limited) experience.

UnnecessaryFennel · 27/02/2018 20:18

It's explodingkittens btw, I felt like a namechange and was watching Masterchef last night Grin

Ollivander84 · 27/02/2018 20:19

SOTD is English laundry signature. V sweet, inoffensive and I quite like it for an uncomplicated scent

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 20:39

Love Sophia grosjman and aurelian guichard and his father

CountFosco · 27/02/2018 20:43

This is a very serious perfume.

My feeling is that Papillon is a serious perfume house. All five perfumes are very different types but all very serious. I should warn you though, Dryad has vetiver in it.

CountFosco · 27/02/2018 20:44

Oh, and Kittens I like your new name. Does make me wonder about those poor kittens though.

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 20:49

Thierry wasser too of course for Dior addict 😁
Trouble is I loathe lots of scents by the same noses!
Weird?
Iirc the nose behind knowing didn't make another perfume....?
(Elie roger)

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 20:50

All fennel is unnecessary of course...
🤢🤣

OCSockOrphanage · 27/02/2018 20:56

Fennel speaks for me too, after JCE became dull, Bertrand has seized his baton... easy to wear but never dullsville.

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/02/2018 21:13

SOTD is FM Hiver. Snow here on and off, and now the pavements are sheer ice. Brilliant. DP is off to see a band so I’ve been out and salted the path, but I hope we don’t end up with his mate who lives a 45 minutes bus ride out of the city staying - DP has been in the spare room himself the last few nights while I cough my way through every hour of the clock.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/02/2018 21:19

My Oriane has arrived from 4160 Tuesdays. Very sweet baby powder. Not a fan, but DD2 will probably like it. I also ordered the rhubarb citrus, which I think will be lovely for summer. Once the original rhubarb blast has eased off, and the citrus comes through, it's lovely.

UnnecessaryFennel · 27/02/2018 21:45

Was just looking at Thierry Wasser's list on Fragrantica. La Petite Robe Noire has twenty-two flankers including special editions (and was only released in 2012). What on earth possesses Guerlain these days?

MrsGruber · 27/02/2018 23:36

I like fennel Smile - speaking of which, has anyone smelt Guerlain's Coriolan? I have Mon Numero 10 but have so far failed to detect the fennel note in that.

The noses question is making my head spin. With you OC on BD, and JCE on the likes list, plus would add other greats like Jacques Polge, Bernard Chant and Christopher Sheldrake. Also Andy Tauer, Lyn Harris, Olivia Giacobetti, Isabelle Doyen, Antoine Lie...

mrsreynolds · 28/02/2018 07:11

They are all at it fennel...that new obsession is an abomination - as are the poison flankers
Houses trading on past glories imho
Unexpected free day today...
Hmm
Sotd prob knowing

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 07:12

I actually quite like fennel too Grin

SOTD is Papillon Tobacco Rose. The opening of this reminds me a little of La Fille de Berlin - a really bright, full, clear rose. Not getting much tobacco so far but it's a lovely scent nonetheless.

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 07:13

I agree mrsr - where's the quality control?!

mrsreynolds · 28/02/2018 07:31

So many houses bringing out flanker after flanker...why??
Must be cash in it I suppose?
Less effort/similar ingredients?

MrsGruber · 28/02/2018 09:24

Thanks to Aubergines I may be in the ultimate 4160s cold wather combo: Another Kiss by the Fireside and Doe in the Snow.
