SotD - Tom Ford White Patchouli

Warm and comforting on this freezing cold, snowy day.

EliseC1965 · 28/02/2018 19:39

SOTD is Cuir Ottoman. Warm, leathery and comfortable for these horrible cold days. Bit like DH’s Dior Homme, has dried down now into what I imagine an old, well-loved Chanel handbag would smell like.

Judydreamsofhorses · 28/02/2018 19:57

SOTD is MMM Fireplace for all the snow. We got a snow day, and off tomorrow too!

MrsGruber · 28/02/2018 20:04

Oh, glad that was a hit Aubergines. Everyone needs a serious citrus chypre. Smile. The Fragrance Shop were discounting, but they've now sold-out online. A couple of months ago they still had some stock in my local store, but you had to ask them to get it out from the stockroom. It's worth asking if you have a branch near you. It tends to be more expensive on ebay.

Doe in the Snow is really interesting. First couple of minutes and you're expecting an insubstantial modern fruity peach, but then it takes a raspy, mossy turn, revealing a distant family resemblance to Mitsouko. Much better on skin than paper - it seems to need body heat? Another Kiss by the Fireside was marvellously warming (anyone else get a slight pickle note?).

Am now in pyjamas wearing the first fruits of *PiaM's terrible vintage enabling. I bought a little over an inch of Opium EDT in what looks like an early noughties bottle for £1.04. First 30 secs are a bit stewed, but marvelous from that point onwards.

BluebellGal · 28/02/2018 20:30

Thanks kittens took a trip down memory lane after work to smell Le Male in John Lewis. I still love it! Must get DH to wear it again

Also tried out Shalimar mrsGruber the first few minutes are a bit too smokey for me- sort of took my breath away, then I got some citrus - I can appreciate what you mean about Lemon Sherbet. Then baby wipes yes (who said that?). I guess Shalimar came before baby wipes though?

Then a lovely spicy, rich vanilla dry down. I’m enjoying it now. But it’s honestly nowhere near as fabulous as the dry down as the vintage treasure you sent me.

There was also a Shalimar soufflé- haven’t tried it but guessing it’s sweeter?

One mainstream house forever... would have to be Hermes. Like most of their output, but would like freedom to dabble with Tauer.

mrsreynolds · 28/02/2018 21:01

Nice PP list!

Sun moon stars is divine 😁

I'm going to have to buy some mitsouko....sniffed but again today.
It's the only guerlain I like

Only one house???

Argh

Um. I guess Dior?
Or YSL?
Um.
Will have to think about that....

BluebellGal · 28/02/2018 21:02

Ooh my desert island
Perfume houses would have to be Prada or Bulgari.

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 21:06

It would have to be Guerlain by a whisper over Dior. I would be very sad without Addict and Poison in my world, though

SoFancy · 28/02/2018 21:17

Oh Gawd, I've only gone and won on all my ebay bids! Lucky it's payday, eh? Although I shall have to live on oats for the month of March.

Some of my good old 1996 love D&G Feminine and some promising-looking almost-FBs of vintage Ysatis, Amarige and Samsara hopefully all landing soon.

I'm actually seriously contemplating that old Perfumista ''put your credit/debit card in the freezer' quip. I can foresee the old lady Me, wrapped in tin foil to keep the cold out, eating cold beans from the tin but smelling absolutely gorgeous, daaahling.

mrsreynolds · 28/02/2018 21:19

I don't go for subtle either piam 👍
My mum bought some next cashmere today 😁
I'm such an enabler!
I'm going to try their "gold" next as it's a dupe for YSL cinema
Burberry body is ok. Not much of silage tbh
I have not ordered oriane but I want to 😣

mrsreynolds · 28/02/2018 21:44

Speaking of next cashmere I'm off to douse myself in it before bed 😁

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 22:04

I need to put my credit card in the freezer too.

Trouble is, I know the card details off by heart...

SOTE is Creamy Vanilla Crumble. This is fast becoming my go-to bedtime scent. So soothing and cosy and comforting.

MrsGruber · 28/02/2018 22:07

The previous generation of Molton Brown perfumes (the place themed navigations through scent collection) were rather good. Londonium was my favourite; boozy berries, woods and balsams. The ethereal Lijiang came a close second.

MotherofTerriers · 28/02/2018 22:24

I really wanted to like them. I like the candles and body washes, but nothing really appealed.
Dyptique have an offer of a 10ml perfume and teeny candle if you spend £90. I’m a bit tempted

EnidButton · 28/02/2018 22:28

Fennel That sounds lovely. Have googled and wondering does the tobacco come through a lot or is it sweeter than that? I think I detected a hint of tobacco in the Avery E and I wasn't keen on it as a note. Unless I'm wrong and there's no tobacco in E.

Or is it more of a 'fresh packet of golden Virginia baccy' kind of tobacco?

Blush
CountFosco · 28/02/2018 22:59

SotD Goodbye Piccadilly. I love the patchouli dry down of this. I am needing to spend some cash on perfume now as well. It's a new month in an hour, think that justifies it especially when I'm off work with lots of extra kids tomorrow

UnnecessaryFennel · 01/03/2018 07:15

Enid, yes the tobacco in CVC is very light - a fresh packet of Golden Virginia is a very good description actually. It just gives it a bit of depth, takes the edge off the gourmand sweetness, rather than adding too much smoke. If you can do sweet perfumes but don't want something 'pink' then you'd probably like it a lot.

Give a sneaky 9ml a go, g'wan g'wan g'wan you can always swap it with me if you don't like it Grin

CountFosco · 01/03/2018 07:34

SotD Viva la Juicy Noir from TPS subscription box. Not a fan. Fragantica reviews hilarious though, lots of 'this is such a pretty feminine bottle, I love it'. Em, what about the scent?

BluebellGal · 01/03/2018 07:53

enod if you do want the CVC make sure you use the goss 40% discount

UnnecessaryFennel · 01/03/2018 08:00

Well, the snow is still coming down here (albeit lightly) and I'm quite tempted not to get out of bed! Not sure what SOTD will be - might give Papillon Dryad a go. Reviews suggest the vetiver isn't too prominent, here's hoping.

positivepineapple · 01/03/2018 08:03

My 4160 box arrived Grin

Just had a sniff of each on a tester card - couldn't help myself.

I can agree with all you wonderful perfumistas - Sexiest scent is a winner!

Now to decide what to wear today, the snow has really started to come down & the fish pond is frozen solid! Luckily it's my day off.

Toss up between, Sexiest scent, Orianne, Doe in the snow or Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters.

DH has already expressed interest in nabbing Another kiss by the fireside for himself.

pestilentialboundary · 01/03/2018 08:36

auberginesrus The Fragrance Shop had loads of Mary Greenwell, in the Plymouth shop, Lemon and Plum. It was not on their website, so may be worth a phone call.

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 01/03/2018 08:43

Very quick post as have horrible ulcer thing on finger so hurts to type Angry but wanted to say thank you for all being so lovely and I hope other Perfumistas having a tricky RL have a better March Smile

I don't think I know enough yet to choose a favourite nose Blush (yy to Sophia Grojsman though) but if I could only choose one house, I think I might go for Penhaligons. Unusual choice I know, but I don't think I have tried one of theirs that I don't like. And they have a good range too. I wouldn't get bored.

Jealous of your PP haul PIAM and everyone's eBay success (who beat me to the 24 Faubourge, it must have been one of you Grin) Continuing the theme of "fucking things right up" I ordered Velvet Orchid from PP as it's the only TF I like, except I ordered Black Orchid instead Reviews look good though so it might be a success!

Absolutely love the snagging a DH by scent!

Must stop typing now Blush Hope everyone isn't too snowed in, it's coming down fast here. I am so ready for Summer! Have given up on Spring already! Happy St David's Day, Perfumistas.
