Wfh home today (internet down at work) very cold and I have a cold. So SOTD is warm and cosy 4160 Silk Lace and Chocolate — a fantastic gourmand if that’s your sort of thing. Would never wear this out of the house though!

Daughter is feeling so much better thank you. Poor little one. Grandma dropping her home later, can’t wait to see her.

My colleague yesterday said she really dislikes ‘that rhubarb stuff you wear’. That’ll be the 4160 Rhubarb and custard then. I only wore it once and sprayed lightly so interesting that she noticed! Her comment came about because she's eaten a smelly lunch and left the remains on her desk, so I asked to move it. Anyway interesting that she picked up on the rhubarb- another one to wear at home Grin. She’s the colleague I pass all my PMs to - she’s great and we aren’t shy to speak our minds to each other.

explodingkittens · 27/02/2018 11:48

Can I ask where you get samples from? I've tried Nose and Scent Samples - are there any other companies I could look at? Thank you!

teta · 27/02/2018 12:09

papersmile Bloom,Notino & the perfume society are all good .
Sotd is Mona Di Orio Musc - warm, cuddly & powdery for another freezing ❄️❄️.
Sorry to everyone with bad news yesterday .I hope today is much improved ☀️.

papersmile · 27/02/2018 12:15

Thank you tea, I'll have a look. I wasn't sure whether to trust Notino or not. I'll give it a go.

papersmile · 27/02/2018 12:15

teta! sorry

positivepineapple · 27/02/2018 12:44

Bluebell Silk, lace & chocolate sounds right up my street! It's on the longer 4160 wish list. Glad your DD is feeling better Smile

MrsG We have the big departments, JL, Debs, Boots, Howells, no niche unfortunately but I'm more of an online shopper - I work in the city centre so try to avoid it when I can, plus I have ZERO self restraint!

SOTD is Balmain Extatic. This is a lovely warm & cosy scent, perfect for the big freeze.

MrsGruber · 27/02/2018 12:46

Bluebell impressed you've found a workplace evil perfume twin.

BluebellGal · 27/02/2018 12:53

Grin mrsgruber and we sit next to each other! She likes Chance & Gabrielle. Not worried she’ll be lurking here - she’s way off having children and possibly too hip for mumsnet [no offence to hip mumsnetters]

I've sent for a sample of soir de lune
And I've bid on some paloma Picasso...fingers x

EnidButton · 27/02/2018 15:54

Floof Thank you so so much! Smile I'm sent you a pm (well, 2 pms, butterfingers!) Really appreciated. Flowers

Chergui has been keeping me wonderful company all day. It's best sprayed on clothing though, hasn't lasted much on my wrist but I sprayed my scarf this morning in the knowledge that I'd be wearing it constantly.

My tiny wee sample is nearly finished now though Sad. I will definitely be replacing this one.

Hello all, quite surprised to find an inch or so of snow when I woke up this morning as we weren't forecast much really. Luckily the motorways were clear as I have had a long drive to work and am just about to head back. SOTD was a dupe of Miss Dior I bought from someone at work (Frederico Mahora is the brand)- very pleasant but doesn't last long. SOTE will be sweat as I go to gym while ds1 is at swimming club in an attempt to curb my lard arse and general laziness Grin

Hope better days have been had all round than yesterday.

SoFancy · 27/02/2018 17:16

mrsr - I love soir de lune. I have a sample I eek out. It’s a very rich, grand chypre. Lots of oakmoss and a dirty rose. (Did you ever get my Kenzo Amour sample by the way?)

I’m making spaghetti & meatballs and cracking open the red wine. It’s the only way to keep warm Grin. I shall be wearing my lovely, creamy, warming Samsara again tonight.

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 17:55

No..
No samples have arrived :(
Bloody royal mail

mrsreynolds · 27/02/2018 17:56

Sote will be sexiest scent I think

explodingkittens · 27/02/2018 18:17

Home to the Papillon samples. Obviously I went straight for Salome. Well. This is a stunner. Yes, undeniably dirty and definitely NSFW, but also very complex and, well, serious. This is a very serious perfume.

On me it has that fuzzy, powdery, 'old-fashioned' aspect that I really love, but alongside that sits dark rose, jasmine and a thick pipe tobacco note that is almost photo-realistic. The 'skank' is definitely present in the top notes but not as fully as in, for example, TF Scent and there's none of that 'heeheehee this perfume smells a bit of wee' that I get from the first 30 mins of Scent. Salome definitely doesn't make me laugh - I'm actually a little bit scared of her.

I keep sniffing myself. I think I might have to spend some quiet time with this one Grin

Sotd was Aromatics Elixir, my freebie sample with my eyeliner. Whenever I smell this I wonder why I've never had a full bottle, it's very me. Massive powerhousey aldehydey sourness. Love it.

Oh, I need to pop over to ebay to see if I won the O de Lancome am bidding on. (thinking ahead to hot weather, natch)

SoFancy · 27/02/2018 18:38

PIAM - oh, I love O de Lancome. I’ve been eyeing it up on eBay for summer purposes, too Grin.

I won my YSL Champagne. Hurrah. 90s-tastic fruity fizz heading my way Grin

MrsGruber · 27/02/2018 18:54

Thanks to Aubergines and Bluebell for their parcels Flowers. Have pm'd you both.

SotD was The Great Randello - which has kept me feeling plumped up, warm and smiley all day (quite an acheivement under the circumstances).

SotE will be a Chris Bartlett - very interested to explore some Pell Walls (thanks to Bluebell).

SoFancy · 27/02/2018 19:09

Can we talk about perfumes we should like on paper or really want to appreciate, but can’t grow to love (yet!)?

Shalimar is mine. I want to love it SO much. The notes are right. It’s a Guerlain, one of my go-to houses. But I just can’t love it Sad.

I get tepid baby wipes and a bit of warm, wet nappy, followed by Savlon and warming up to TCP and vanilla essence. It pains me.

Yours?

explodingkittens · 27/02/2018 19:15

Portrait of a Lady. In fact, pretty much everything I've sniffed from Frederic Malle, but POAL especially. The notes are completely me - warm, spicy rose, patchouli, sandalwood, incense. Beautiful bottle, Ropion as the nose...perfect.

Except it smells like dusty pot pourri.

OP posts:
explodingkittens · 27/02/2018 19:21

Actually, scratch that. I've just realised that having Ropion as the nose is probably exactly what makes me dislike it. His list on fragrantica reads like a top ten of perfumes I really dislike. I must have been thinking of someone else Grin
