I can sniff and not spend... primarily because I don’t have much money ever GrinGrinGrin am not in a job yet (getting there). I imagine when I do get a job I’ll buy some nice smelling things...

SoFancy · 06/03/2018 19:13

Well thank goodness I'm fairly broke, because in another life I would have spent about £500 on 3 x FBs today Grin.

positivepineapple · 06/03/2018 19:27

I wrote that post, went to Boots to get a late lunch and came out of the fragrance shop with Tom Ford Velvet Orchid!!

Send help!

In my defence I am very pleased with it, I can't stop sniffing my wrist - It just keeps getting better and better. I tried the Tom Ford range a few years back and nothing appealed, the very helpful enabler sales assistant suggested I try it again.

Going to have a shower and clean PJ's for my SOTE.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 06/03/2018 19:43

Evening all! Aubergines did you try Vol De Nuit? Love it so much... Lost out on an EBay bottle yesterday Sad HoF are definately the best choice for trying Guerlain.

V jealous of the samples and really need to remind myself how many untried ones I'm sitting on. Must. Be. Good. Had a bad morning this morning with DH being not so D but managed to neither buy comfort perfume nor eat perfume chocolate. Phew.

SotD was Neon Rose. Didn't read the notes and expected 90s acid house roses on steroids. So very wrong!! It's a very soft gentle rose with a clean bergamot opening. Quite like it and shocked to see no actual rose in the notes!! The tricksters...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 06/03/2018 19:44

Ah. Comfort chocolate not perfume chocolate Blush

Can you imagine?? Bleurgh!

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/03/2018 20:30

SOTD is Chanel 19. It pissed rain here all day, and is still pissing. Where is spring?

auberginesrus · 06/03/2018 21:12

Ni didn't try that one Cheap, was starting to go a bit nose blind!

My MG Lemon had arrived when I got home along with samples of Hugo Boss and Caroline whatsit Good Girl, which I am disliking on principle for the Hmm name (and horrible bottle)

positivepineapple · 06/03/2018 21:15

Aubergine I agree! The scent is actually quite lovely but the bottle is bloody awful!! I don't know who it is supposed to appeal to?!

MrsGruber · 06/03/2018 21:38

Medical students? Confused

positivepineapple · 06/03/2018 22:07

Oh no MrsG this is another bad bottle and it's worse than map of the heart!!!!!!

UnnecessaryFennel · 06/03/2018 22:10

SOTE is the dregs of my sample of Chergui. It feels a bit decadent to be going to bed in such a lovely perfume. I'd really like a FB but that ain't gonna happen any time soon.

Was the Neon Rose one of the Floral Street ones, cheap? Sounds rather nice.

I also got samples of Carolina Herrera and Hugo Boss. Not interested in either of them. That may make me a terrible snob, I suppose.

UnnecessaryFennel · 06/03/2018 22:11

Yep, that is a really bad bottle Grin

MrsGruber · 06/03/2018 22:27

Sorry, lost my bearings for a moment there PP. It's been a long day.

Surely that's some cheap PR bid for attention by doing something 'controversial', in the same vein as F*ing Fabulous? Not serious, surely? The name sounds like something you'd pick up from the petshop for your cat? Am keeping an open mind on the contents until sniffed.

And just on bottles (is'nt it rare for us to comment on them?), I was lucky to get a bargainous half used bottled of Ralph Lauren's Notorious from ebay. Attractive, unfussy bottle. As reviewers point out, there are some Coromandel parallels (big white chocolate and patchouli notes), but this is a cool slightly sour oriental, not a warm cosy one. Interesting.

Motoko · 06/03/2018 23:59

I bow down to those who can sniff & not spend!

It helps to not have enough money to buy any full bottles! That's why I buy samples.

toffee1000 · 07/03/2018 00:38

When I was deciding on a perfume for my last birthday present (I chose it with my mother, so we knew what it smelt like on me before making the choice) I got a load of samples, many of which I still have. I got them all for free I think, tiny little sample bottles.

mrsreynolds · 07/03/2018 07:00

Oh that bottle is shocking!
Sotd prob addict again

UnnecessaryFennel · 07/03/2018 07:11

SOTD is Etui Noir. This is such an underrated gem imo. Leather, incense and iris, but quite fresh, soft and sweet. Really lovely.

I don't want to go to work today. It's wet and cold and I want to dive back under the duvet. Instead I'm standing on a delayed train and everyone around me is coughing. Blech.

SoFancy · 07/03/2018 07:56

SOTD Feminin Pluriel. Lovely. But the spray function on the stupid sample bottle has gone funny, so only getting dribbles. Bah.

Ollivander84 · 07/03/2018 08:41

Ordered these to try from Angela Flanders
SOTD mrs gloss indoors

MrsGruber · 07/03/2018 08:46

Unnecessary - am I remembering right that you have the Friedemodin's set? If so, worth comparing Feu Follet with Etui. Both lovely modern leathers. FF has a warm powdery amber base compared to Etui's chillier iris powder. FF is the first thing in ages that has made me want a big bottle.

UnnecessaryFennel · 07/03/2018 08:53

MrsG - my Friedemodin set seems to have gone missing - Hermes say they have delivered it (and have a 'signature') but my work post room are denying all knowledge Sad. But yes, if I ever get my hands on it I will indeed do a side-by-side comparison. A warm powdery amber sounds absolutely the thing!

Ollivander what do you think of Mrs Gloss Indoors? I couldn't really get past the mandarin, of which I am definitely not a fan.

Ollivander84 · 07/03/2018 08:56

I like it, find it quite marshmallow/powder on me. Not as much as I love the outdoors one - I got both FB at the same time and am nearly halfway down the outdoors!

Calmwhoknows · 07/03/2018 09:18

I have the Friedemodin set (a TKMaxx buy), but it’s unopened as yet. It would be good to do a “Little Sniff” just on this thread, as several of us have this? I will open it today.

mrsreynolds, I tested my Sleep Knot for longevity, as you said it only lasted a couple of hours on you. I put it on at 5.30 yesterday evening. It was still going strong at 9, ie 3.5 hrs later. Then it was a lighter but still significant skin scent for a couple of hours. I went to bed with it on and was conscious of it during the night. It had disappeared by this morning.

It is really weird how different perfumes are on different people, in terms of longevity, but also in terms of how they react on different skins. I was getting nothing at all from some of the Big Sniff perfumes after only an hour or two, when others were getting a lot longer from exactly the same perfume.

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 09:55

I’m ill in bed so no SOTD for me Sad

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 07/03/2018 09:59

MrsR have sent the Obsession, apologies the bottle is only half full, I couldn't re-open it to fill it to the top for you as I planned!

Loving the Little Sniff idea, surely it should be a "pop up" Sniff for maximum trendiness Grin

We don't discuss bottles that much, do we? That shoe monstrosity up thread is dire, it's very like this 4.99 cheapie I found...(must remember to attach pic) GrinI do love a "heavy" bottle, and the Mary Greenwell tops are gorgeous, IMO.

Pineapple Velvet Orchid is the only TF I really approve of, too. The PP Black Orchid smells yummy on me but I gather it's not that close to the original? It's a keeper though.

Calm I'm really interested as to why perfumes smell different on different skin and wish I had paid more attention in Biology (or would it be chemistry?) I actually find that perfumes smell different even on my two wrists, one has scar tissue from an op and the other has coloured tattoo ink, whether these have a bearing I don't know? Perhaps guys on the skincare threads (where's Bo when we need her Grin) might know. Possibly it's to do with the PH of the skin? (I did try to test my "Perfume Longevity on Tattooed Skin" Phd theory on DH but he didn't want to play even though it was science.)

Anyway I found a little independent chemist yesterday which had the paper wrapped lemon shaped soaps - I was very excited to buy one but they just smell like wax now Are the Bronnley ones, the original ones that I remember? You guys will know, I'm sure.
