Because I’m ill, bored and can’t wear perfume, I’m googling my favourite perfume bottles. Chanel No.5 is iconic and all Chanel bottles are gorgeous but Guerlain has to win for the most beautiful designs. It’s a shame they are migrating all (most?) to the bee bottles.

Don’t know those lemon soaps floofy but I always see a decent selection in TK Maxx.

I’m going to spam the thread with my favourite perfume bottles. Lots hold memories for me so are quite personal. I’m sad to say I don’t have any of these any more. I’m an anti-hoarder! Some were my mum’s.

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 10:45

And more. Anyone remember Deci Della? I used to swipe it from my mum

Grin floofy that bottle is a hoot! It needs to be because the perfume inside is an unremarkable fresh citrus ‘clean’ scent

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 11:04

Womanity on the other hand (also by Mugler) could win the prize for ugliest bottle.

My mum was strictly Youth Dew, whenever I smell it brings back wonderful memories of her, I wish I could wear it but it just smells wrong on me.

My mum loves everything I hate
Chanel, poison, shalimar, JHAG not a perfume... Grin

mrsreynolds · 07/03/2018 12:17

My mum wears youth dew too
Smells great on her

She wore opium when I was a child

She ends up buying a lot of the scents I buy as we seem to have similar tastes

CountFosco · 07/03/2018 12:33

SotD Amber Mambo. Was thinking about the citrus top notes. Lots of perfumes have them but they are just an impression of freshness adding to the other notes. AC are all about the citrus and lots of their perfumes smell very like the smell you get when eating the actual fruit. But the citrus in Amber Mambo is like sucking on a sherbet lemon. It's the lemon of sweets or those little balls of lemon flavour in packets of lemon pie filling . Iscentyouaday said her son said it was like lemon fudge and that is very accurate because under the lemon there's a fudgy warmth that slowly settles to the amber. There's something caramelly in it as well and while the slap you in the face lemon goes there's still a liveliness to the perfume. This is nostalgic and fun.

positivepineapple · 07/03/2018 12:38

Floofy I haven't tried any of the PP Tom Fords yet, they've always been out of stock - I did just have another look and Velvet Orchid is back in.
I shouldn't spend more but they are such a bloody bargain, I want to get a Pom Noir for a JM obsessed friend to try and I would be saving postage costs.....

UnnecessaryFennel · 07/03/2018 12:47

My mum was a Youth Dew fan too. And Opium, now I recall. I also keep meaning to get a bottle of Private Collection because that really reminds me of her.

I think I am very quite traditional wrt bottles. I like a good, solid lump of glass in a nice square or rectangle. Maybe some curves. But plastic or tassels or too much colour, no. So boring, I am Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 07/03/2018 12:50

Actually I think the original Vol De Nuit bottle is the most beautiful one of all. Stunning and so evocative. It looks exactly as the perfume smells.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 07/03/2018 13:03

I bought a Vol De Nuit shimmer powder bottle from EBay because it was cheap, has the same design as the perfume bottle and I don't think I'll ever own what I think of as a "proper" Vol De Nuit bottle of perfume. The regular bee bottles on the list though.

I hope the pared down bee bottles don't ever detract from the "proper" gold ones. So so beautiful. The first thing I'll do when I win the Euromillions is hop on a Eurostar to Paris and get a few of those!

whataboutbob · 07/03/2018 14:00

Speaking of Vol de Nuit, what do you think of the current formulation? I still have a little VdN from the 90s and it seems the stuff they are selling today is quite a different beast. The old one has more longevity, and is dryer, more austere. The new one seems to have a sweeter, honeyed quality to me. Anyone else care to comment?

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 14:00

Lovely to hear your stories of mums perfumes. I hope my daughter will have fond memories of mine one day (probably 4160s and their names!).

Eek I counted up how many 4160s I’ve tried now. My first was in September when I purchased WIDOMH from Les Senteurs. Then the rhubarb and custard trio (November?). I have tried 28 of their perfumes- only possible due to lots of swaps and genourosity on this thread. I reckon I really like half of those and love about 5.

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 14:01

I agree Fennel Vol de Nuit is housed in the BEST bottle. It’s so gorgeous

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 14:06

Oh and a big thank you to Judy who recommended Bloom & Wild. I’m on my first months bouquet- some of the stems are still going strong in a smaller vase and my second month gets delivered tomorrow. They are so beautiful & the longevity is amazing. Also very cheap, I’m enjoying them in these bleaker winter days and they are fantastic value for money, although they’re not a necessity.

I’ve also ordered our mums 2 bouquets- they are cheaper than equivalents in the supermarkets and I know they will last. Plus I got free pink gin for my mum and hers contains freesias which should smell good.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for a flower delivery service.

UnnecessaryFennel · 07/03/2018 14:20

I've just found a bottle of Etui Noir in TKMaxx Grin

SoFancy · 07/03/2018 14:43

Love the Mum Perfume reminiscences.

My mum wore –bucketloads of—Rive Gauche in the 80s, YSL Elle in the 90s. She swings between No.19 and Allure these days, but never buys herself perfume. She thinks my perfume collection is outrageous Grin

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 14:52

👏🏻 Well done Fennel - result! If you like Etui Noir, MoV Byzantium Saffron night suit you. PM me if you would like a decant (can send when I’m better). Mrs Gruber has tried this as I sent it to her a while ago.

mrsreynolds · 07/03/2018 14:54

Vol de nuit sounds lovely

I might go for cashmere when I get home....been a busy day...ice been out since 8.25....

LibertyBlue · 07/03/2018 14:54

So Fancy your mum might have a small scent wardrobe but she’s got good taste! My mum thinks exactly the same about me and my little collection Grin

‘Scuse my terrible grammar and typos. Hope you’re not judging too much Blush

UnnecessaryFennel · 07/03/2018 17:06

blue, I would absolutely love some Byzantium Saffron, thank you so much. I'll PM you my address (unless you still have it from the last swapathon?)

I am so chuffed about the Etui Noir - the TK
Maxx gods were smiling on me today.

I may have also popped into Bloom and Diptyque and spent some more money oooops
