Sorry to hear that mrss

LibertyBlue · 03/03/2018 11:08

No SOTD yet- still in PJs Blush

Just came on to say TPS doing the Floral Street discovery pack for £12 if you wanted to include it with another order.

I really, really want to buy a 30ml bottle of Creamy Vanilla Crumble with the mrsgloss code. But will hold of until I can agree to pay instalments for the bloody childcare vouchers. Very difficult! One good thing about the snow and being indoors is that I haven’t spent any money...but there’s always perfume sites & EBay calling Wink

LibertyBlue · 03/03/2018 11:28

mrsS hope your daughter is ok and has a better week

mrsGruber yep I agree Alberto Morillas needs to be added to the noses list. Not only for being very prolific but also for great Bulgaris, Marc Jacobs Daisy (which I used to wear but now don’t like, but it was a massive commercial success), Kenzo Flower and Elixir (which I both love) Gucci Bloom (a pretty good new release in a sea of PMs), 212 C.H. (a long time favourite of mine - mrsR might like this musk).

But mainly Alberto deserves to be on the list for CK One. Ok, so it’s not very interesting these days (although it still smells nice and is a good choice for hot weather) but it was truly groundbreaking at the time. The smell brings me right back to my school corridors (loads of people wore it). It was a big bold departure from what went before and a cornerstone in perfume history. The mainstreaming of unisex fragrances. The minimalist bottle. A massive commercial success.

Incidentally Alberto created the Mugler cologne discussed up thread.

I've managed to spent £££ online whilst stuck indoors!
Perfume - counts fault! 😁
New lampshade
Skincare
Jeans and boots
I need to stop!

SoFancy · 03/03/2018 11:50

mrs Grin I’m afraid this thread is the antithesis of an online shopping addiction support group.

Blue - that was a really informative post. Thank you! I knew nothing about Morillas. CK One reminds me of my early clubbing days. A complete game changer at the time. Me and my sister shared a bottle Grin.

SOTD is Diptyque Do Son. I think the sample came from you, Blue? I have no experience of Diptyque perfume, but this is seriously good. A spicy initial phase that I thought was ginger, but having read up on the notes it’s pink pepper. Then it’s just straight up, creamy, gorgeous tuberose. Love! Thank you so much .

UnnecessaryFennel · 03/03/2018 12:00

Tried Sexiest Scent again this morning - it's definitely a no from me I'm afraid.

Lol at all the spending at the moment. So difficult not to when perfume is so tempting, so varied and relatively inexpensive. And swaps are so much fun Wink.

mrsreynolds · 03/03/2018 12:04

Oh fennel that's a shame
I tried a couple of the samples only sent to me...pell yell (?) and Olympea...both far too floral for me :(
I seem to have a real "issue" with floral notes....so few I like

mrsreynolds · 03/03/2018 12:10

kindly sent

CountFosco · 03/03/2018 12:20

Perfume - counts fault!

Yeah, yeah, you were resisting as hard as you could but I forced you to spend money at gunpoint Grin

SotD Goodbye Piccadilly. It's snowing again and I've got to do some househunting again. Phoning up council on Monday to find out the catchment area for preferred school. If it's bigger than last year I'm seriously tempted to put in an offer on the gorgeous house with parquet flooring. Everything well in catchment seems to have a weird layout for £100k more. Sigh.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/03/2018 12:23

Hello! I've never been on these threads before but thought about you the other day.

I listened to a really interesting programme about "noses", the people who make and create perfumes on the radio the other day. It was fascinating.

It was in radio 4extra and it was called The Nose Job and it's still on the radio iPlayer

mrsreynolds · 03/03/2018 12:25

Heh heh i have to blame someone count

LibertyBlue · 03/03/2018 13:01

SOTD CK One! Trip down memory lane despite never owning this in my youth (didn’t have a sister to share with like SoFancy Sad and not enough disposable income back then to buy it- I think it was about £40 now it’s only £20!). It smells like hand wash/ deodorant but I think they copied the scent afterwards- it’s actually quite nice if you try to smell it afresh without the preconceptions. I know people say the same about Shalimar and baby wipes.

Thanks for the iplayer tip bitoutofpractice - I’ll check it out

LibertyBlue · 03/03/2018 13:05

Yes SoFancy it was me who sent the Diptyque DoSon. I really like it. If you get chatting to the staff in the London shops, they’re pretty generous with the samples I find. Same with Heals- they’ll give you lots of niche samples if you show interest (not difficult for us), whereas John Lewis etc I find only give with a purchase

LibertyBlue · 03/03/2018 13:06

Ooh I purchased DIOR nail glow recently, got chatting to lady about perfume and she gave me lots of DIOR and Chanel samples. Sadly no Addict.

LibertyBlue · 03/03/2018 14:24

Have had a bath, egg and chips (really!) and dressed to go to PIL’s for DH birthday dinner. New SOTD is 4160 Sex Goddess- I bloody love her. Thank you Janet

EnidButton · 03/03/2018 14:45

SOTD is Guerlain Insolence. Can get a full wear out of it today. Mostly at home because of the weather so will check that radio programme out too. Sounds really interesting.

Liberty What's the nail glow like? I love the lipglow lipstick/balm.

mrsreynolds · 03/03/2018 14:48

I've got nail glow
I'm unimpressed tbh

MrsGruber · 03/03/2018 16:04

Having fallen of vintage wagon, I'm very much enjoying Alix, a Gres miniature (am a big fan of pre 90s Gres).

This miniature was in great condition - top notes all present and correct. Starts with a perfect green/hyacinth whoosh of aldehydes (cooler and bluer than Y), but then takes an unexpected animalic turn and goes through a distinct musky sweaty stage like a more refined moment from Theo Fennell's Scent. Could be caraway/cumin?

This smells borderline daring for a bit, but it does calm down into a lovely rich warm woody amber base. I don't think 4ml is going to be enough...

UnnecessaryFennel · 03/03/2018 17:55

Alix sounds great MrsG. I am so tempted by some of those vintage miniatures on ebay. Although obviously I'm not buying anything else this month Grin

All this talk of CKOne has made me nostalgic. I am really tempted by a little bottle of L'eau par Kenzo on ebay. I know it's a dreaded 90s ozonic and really rather dull, but it is such a memory box for me. I know that sniffing it just once would transport me right back to 1997, a grotty mansion flat in west Hampstead and my first big romance. But perhaps these things are best left in the past!

UnnecessaryFennel · 03/03/2018 18:05

You may all know about this already (I'd never heard of her before the other day) but I thought these looked rather interesting...

Angela Flanders

mrsreynolds · 03/03/2018 18:10

I'm watching vintage obsession on ebay! 😁

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 03/03/2018 19:15

I'm enjoying eBay - sort of expecting to be outbid!

Fennel ooh. Not heard of Angela Flanders but like the sound of the Sweet Nothings set.

SotD was Floral Street Iris Goddess. Had intended to work through the set in the order they're packaged in but didn't feel ready for "Neon Rose"... IG was quite nice actually. Didn't read the notes so was hoping for powdery goodness to match the snow and while I did get powdery goodness it was with the always winning pairing of violet. It's the Parma violet family of violet but less intense than insolence. Quite subtle and very wearable. Probably may favourite, 50% of the way through the set, but still not sure I'd part with £55 for 50 ml of it...

mrsreynolds · 03/03/2018 20:32

Sote sexiest scent

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/03/2018 20:49

SOTD Tauer LDDM. And still the snow keeps coming.

Ollivander84 · 03/03/2018 21:05

That sample link looks interesting. Going to order Xanadu, Bois de Seville and Artillery 3

Weird story behind the word Xanadu to me, it's our family password. So in case of any emergency, if you couldn't say anything or for instance someone was picking me up from school, that was what we used. Not used as much now but if I rang my parents and said it, even at 3am they would spring awake
