Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

FEBRUARY 2018: The month of February sucks. Period. We’re sick of winter and the state of our finances, some are embracing frugality (in different shapes and forms) but water bills and car maintenance are ruining our buzz. Hair appointments need to be made despite the palpitations of fear that the mere thought incites. Oh, and skin texture. As you were...

Thanks for that Reddit link, Bo, I've posted it to the TO/Deciem Fb group as I think a lot of ppl will be looking for alternatives.

Attached is the text of the VH email sent (if anyone's interested).

🐌 Fantastic Skincare: Hairmageddon looms...
Tantpoke · 06/03/2018 16:52

I've already read it and placed my order for my fave items elsewhere which I'm hoping will still arrive now theres likely to be mass panic buying with all these VH statement posts.

EnidButton · 06/03/2018 17:00

The end of the VH email was odd. Like a mini leaving speech you give when a business is closing down.

Sophie Trying to get my hair back to how it was before my last (a year ago!) haircut. A big trim basically, with a fringe. I miss my fringe.

Lonesurvivor · 06/03/2018 17:01

Bo thanks for that Reddit link, I've been looking for affordable alternatives too and didn't know where to start.

Boots in Ireland are now stocking Cerave too so I'm going to get the moisturiser when my current moisturizing factors is finished.

EnidButton · 06/03/2018 17:22

Meant to say the Footner process has finished. Really quick this time, only 5-7 days start to finish. Scrubbed feet with salt glow, buffed and (clear) polished nails, cuticle oil. Ready for Summer...

Might try and get a nail colour put on at the weekend. Can't paint my own toenails.

BagelGoesWalking · 06/03/2018 18:02

Another article about Brandon T/Deciem.

Got round to reading the Reddit link, it's interesting to see so many products, especially the oils, which are near or cheaper than TO products. A lot of ppl saying on the group saying thanks for posting, so I said I'd copied it from a great Mumsnet skincare thread Grin

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 19:09

I've been concerned about Deciem for a while as I've struggled to find their products anywhere recently (hand chemistry and hylamide) other than their own website. Very strange about VH as they seemed massively 'in love' with each other Confused

Off to read the articles & check out the alternatives now but I don't use anything from TO anymore, it's hylamide and hand chemistry I'm worried about. Might look at the pestle and mortar HA on Qvc as I like their 30 day mbg when trying something new.

Thank you for all the Flowers I'm feeling a bit better today, my nose and eyes are watering like mad, but the sinus pain/pressure has eased - I just look and sound horrible so worked from home again.

Skin seems a bit better too, oddly enough I seem to have got a slight glow/bit of colour from the hylamide glow serum even though I last used it days ago. Maybe it's my imagination or maybe I've just been so fed up and lurgified I didn't notice it.

JDSTER · 06/03/2018 19:16

Bagel you’ll have us inundated with TO lovers Grin.

I remember when TO first launched on VH, Gill declaring undying love for Brandon. She used to be like that with her “LA boyfriends” from IS clinical. Hardly heard about that brand on VH since the Deciem brands came on the scene. Wonder if she’ll be crawling back to them? Hmm. I’ve got a small stash of unopened NIOD and TO. Perhaps I can sell on if prices are inflated on eBay Grin

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 19:32

Ooh I've got some unopened TO as well. I was going to offer it here (will need to check and see what's in the stash) but I was wary as although it's never been used or even tested I have doubts personally about the longevity/integrity of the ingredients used in TO stuff. And I can't remember when I purchased everything, some of it must be a year ago now if not more.

Just seen that the Vita Liberata body blur is on Qvc, tempted to order so I can use the mbg but I have boots points so that might be a better option under austerity measures, will see if I can find any testers in store.

Lonesurvivor · 06/03/2018 19:45

Does Boots not always have Hand Chemistry and Hylamid?
Due to an attempt at a hair dressing career many decades ago I've been left with dermatitis on my hands that only flares during winter. I've used numerous hand creams including hand chemistry and at best have managed to keep it inflamed rather than red raw, interestingly this year is the first I haven't flared up in 27 years all I can figure is it's since I've used extra anti aging products on my face that get rubbed into my hands too

I'm off now to look up vita liberate on qvcGrin

botemp · 06/03/2018 20:11

For whatever reason Vita Liberata Body blur is significantly cheaper on Beauty Bay, so also worth checking.

I can't vouch for the skincare UK Reddit as it's a relatively small sub with minimal activity, but the list and comments beneath are certainly a good direction within the same price point. If they're anything like the main SA sub they won't discriminate against mineral oil though (not that I think it's evil either but it is rather problematic for many).

Mint, I think there isn't much left aside from that pricey SkinCeuticals product that's a urea derivative.

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 20:13

Lone boots stopped selling hylamide a while ago, they still have a few hand chemistry bits on the website but for how much longer I don't know. Not seen any in store for a while, though admittedly the boots I go to isn't one of the mahoosive superstores - it definitely used to stock it though.

Bo recommended Vita Liberata body blur & it's on my 'want to try list' but will see if boots have it in store as not sure what shade I need, do not want to be orange 🍊

Wish cerave would hurry up and come to boots, I want some face wash. I might also start using their night moisturiser again as used to really like it (can be used in the daytime too) but not been able to get hold of it lately.

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 20:14

Sorry Bo cross posted there, I'll check out the body blur in boots if they have any testers then order from Beauty Bay.

miffy2 · 06/03/2018 20:19

I love Pestle & Mortar HA - it has been my favourite for a good few years now. The offer on QVC (at least the one on the site now) is quite good. 30ml plus a 15ml for £32. With postage to me in Ireland that works out at €42, compared to €43 for a regular size bottle on Cloud10beauty (where I normally buy it, albeit with a regular discount off that price). It will be interesting to see if they offer any further reduction or deal on QVC.

BagelGoesWalking · 06/03/2018 20:22

JDSTER I didn't give the exact name of this thread so they'll have to search for it 😬

FWIW, if you were minded to join the Fb group, they have set up separate threads for selling in different countries. So if you wanted to offload anything, you could join just for that and leave afterwards. I've got a once used bottle of Glycolic toner!

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 20:43

Miffy what is the consistency/texture of the pestle and mortar HA? The hylamide sub q is very thin, just like water really, which is why I like it so much. I like the Skinpep HA texture wise (watery gel) but I'm not convinced it's as effective as the sub q.

Tantpoke · 06/03/2018 20:55

sallie I'm using Niod MMHC which is quite a lovely consistency.

I didnt like the Hylamide sub Q or TO Buffet both way to sticky for me and made my cheeks a bit bumpy.

I cant wait to use my derma roller when it arrives >excited

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 21:33

Tant that's odd because I don't find sub q sticky at all, it just feels like water to me Grin

I got a kit from QVC when NIOD first launched that had NMHC in it, I do remember quite liking the texture of that but I sent the kit back as it was expensive and didn't make any major difference to my skin. I can't remember what all else was in there, one of the serums was blue & looked like ink.

I wonder if Deciem will disappear from QVC now as well.

JDSTER · 06/03/2018 21:50

Thanks Bagel but I definitely wouldn’t be minded to join that FB group (no offence Grin).

I’m still using NIOD HA and got a bottle in reserve but no great shakes to move onto something else, when the time comes. Buffet sticky for me too- using up on my neck.

Tantpoke · 06/03/2018 22:25

sallie The blue serum is probably the copper peptide which I'm using now. I've used it before a couple of years ago but my skin needed more work back then, I can really see the benefits of it now though with this new bottle.

It was a couple of years ago now that I used the hylamide sub Q maybe the formula has changed?

My skin appears to find all sorts of things sticky or filmy Confused

Tantpoke · 06/03/2018 22:32

I have used so many products tonight Hmm

LRP micellar water (make up free day indoors)
LRP thermal water
PC 2% BHA
NIOD copper peptide
NIOD MMHC
TO Retinoid 2%
LRP tolerain fluide
Neutrogena hydro water gel as eye cream and forehead

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 22:38

Tant I have issues with finding things sticky too, I thought the Vichy Vit c was a bit sticky/tacky but no one else seems to Grin

I found a lot of TO products sticky, including their SA. I've never tried Buffet.

And yes the blue thing was a copper peptide serum I think, it had an acronym though, CAS or something.

I've used sub q for ages & always found it watery but I guess everyone's skin 'feels' textures differently.

Tantpoke · 06/03/2018 22:54

Yes sallie its CAIS my plan is to use it after dermo rolling to open up channels to let it in and work more effectively.
I have ordered a copper peptide serum from another site thats a lot cheaper and can be used effectively after dermo rolling but I have no idea yet how it will compare to CAIS which I like for its wierd watery texture.

SallieSallow · 06/03/2018 23:20

I liked the texture of all the watery serums Tant just didn't think they did much for me, especially for the price. Good luck with the dermaroller that looks well scary Shock Grin

Was Nicola (ex co-CEO who has now been sacked) the Deciem guest presenter on QVC? It looks like her but can't catch her name on any of the videos on the website. There isn't much NIOD stuff available on QVC anymore so I guess they may be on the way out of there too. Seems like Deciem only want to sell through their own website and stores now.

EnidButton · 06/03/2018 23:22

Really interested in hearing what you think about the derma roller Tant
