Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Eugh Fosco I fear this for our future. When we bought this - our first house - we naively said it would be fine until we had two children and the youngest was about 5. Now he's two and already we're sweating...

Hope you find something ideal soon...

mrsreynolds · 04/02/2018 17:02

Fosco...we moved 7 years ago for schools so I understand your concerns but be aware school SLTs do change and Ofsted results are pretty cyclical (around here anyway)
Good luck!

Tried rentless by lush today...its nice.

Sote will be a lush bath bomb in a discontinued scent that I wore many years ago when lush first started out. They've brought it back for Valentine's day ❤
It's a pretty heavy hitting jasmine and rose

EliseC1965 · 04/02/2018 17:23

SOTD is eau de peroxide, as I’m baliaging my hair. Lol. Had 6 inches chopped off yesterday so I’m feeling bouncy and light. Weighed myself and I’ve lost half a kilo. My, that hair was heavy. ;)

BluebellGal · 04/02/2018 17:42

SOTD Avery E (Big Sniff Perfume) it’s a nice musk with a well blended Iris. Nice but sillage is softer than I’d like

Also enjoying all the swaps today Smile

MrsGruber · 05/02/2018 06:33

Eau de Lemsip here for the last few days. Have lost my sense of smell Sad.

Cheap - could you see a UK shipping option for the Tauer travel sizes? Hope you enjoy the Barbara Herman - I thought it was a great read.

explodingkittens · 05/02/2018 07:18

SOTD is Cuir Velours. Lovely sweetish suede.

Can't believe it's Monday again - where the hell did the weekend go? Still, the woman next to me on the train is watching peaky blinders on her iPad so I suppose at least I've got Cillian Murphy to ease me into the working week I wish

Might have to check out 100Bon; have got itchy spendy fingers today!

MrsPestilence · 05/02/2018 09:11

SotD is Iris Nazarena. Iris, incense, spice, wood and leather.

You lots have been busy Shock, will catch up properly later.

Floofy good to see you back. Hope you are lurgy free.

Ds1 off school ill today
Sotd PP opium
It’s very cold out there today!

Ollivander84 · 05/02/2018 10:11

SOTD Le Labo Rose 31

Calmwhoknows · 05/02/2018 12:10

Count, pleased to hear the TOD Naked arrived safely!

I’m in Babylon Sunset today (4160Tuesdays). On me it starts with ripe peach and mandarin, morphing to a rich honeyed sandalwood which will last all day. Just beautiful.

BluebellGal · 05/02/2018 13:16

4160 Amberama- loved it on opening but it started to disappear after a couple of hours. No there’s no sign of it. I sprayed quite liberally and it’s parfum I think, so disappointed.

Now I’ve just sprayed Miller Harris L’Air de Rein. Mum gave it to me yesterday (she doesn’t like it) and remember lots of you like it, so keen to give it a go. On opening it’s green, herbal, a bit wee-like. I’m not sure yet

mrsreynolds · 05/02/2018 13:32

That's my only complaint re 4610
No silage

mrsreynolds · 05/02/2018 13:36

I think my skin canabalises scent...🤔

explodingkittens · 05/02/2018 13:57

@bluebell i found L'air de rien really quite challenging at first but grew to absolutely love it. You do need your skankometer turned up quite high to appreciate its earthier qualities though, imo!

BluebellGal · 05/02/2018 15:41

kittens L’air de rien is growing on me - it’s so different and I keep getting pleasant wafts. I’m liking this

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 05/02/2018 16:45

Snowing here Shock Well trying to, at least.

MrsR I think my skin is like a sponge too, the "fruity" 4160s last the longest on me, I love Ealing Green so much but it just disappears so quickly. As do lots of perfumes, especially Jo Malone ones HmmI obviously have thirsty skin!

SOTD is Plum, inspired by The Big Sniff yesterday. Have just had a boiling hot bath wearing a sheet mask - bliss! RL seems to have gone slightly tits up recently so I have had a relaxing day to recharge, DH was on night shifts so brought me a surprise McDonalds breakfast in bed Grin I don't even feel guilty!

Now, as lovely Perfumistas have been kind enough to share their Big Sniff samples with me, I shall offer to pass them on the Sniff thread, if anyone wants me please PM me and I would love to pass them on and share the love.

I hope MrsG and any other poorly people feel better soon, this has been the worst winter for illness, hasn't it? I feel like nailing planks of wood up on our front door and hibernating...

mrsreynolds · 05/02/2018 17:33

A few snow flakes here but nothing that settled

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/02/2018 19:18

bluebell I am in LDR today too - it’s one of my long-term loves. Yesterday was the Big Sniff which I can still smell now I have changed into my “house clothes” (pyjamas) from yesterday.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 05/02/2018 19:33

Evening all!

MrsG aah the small print on the explorer set says no shipping to UK. Bugger. although it does say it's a good option if they can't ship 50ml to your country and if you pretend to order it does let you choose UK shipping and continue on so maybe it could possibly be possible... Discovery set still on my list though!

Do need to lay off the purchases though. FB of Amber Mambo came today and the note said something like "hang on, didn't you only just make another order last week?!" The shame... came with an amberama sample. Sprayed on the tissue and think it might be too rosy for me. Which is A. Good. Thing.

SotD was Lalique Satine. Opening was pink but not too sweet but then I got something that reminded me of Angel. Not sure what it is though. Think almonds but not sweet marzipanny ones, nor bitter almonds. The other kind Blush

Also had a visit from the ghost of Avery E when I put yesterday's jumper on this evening. Would be perfect for those porcelain doodahs.

MrsGruber · 05/02/2018 19:48

He's very personable if you email Cheap - and good to let him know about the frustration this causes for UK-based perfume lovers.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 05/02/2018 19:49

Ooh, I just had an invite from Floral Street for an evening drinking prosecco and hearing about the secrets of scent from their fragrance experts.

If you're in London, or close enough, get yourself on their mailing list!

OCSockOrphanage · 05/02/2018 20:23

Sounds lovely Cheap, but sadly too far for me to go.

I have been absent for a few days, visiting my mama and taking her to a cousin's funeral. Lament not, the deceased made 99!

SoTD has been the remains of a freebie from Patrick at Scent Samples who insisted that I try Roja Dove's Amber Oud on him. It is very lovely and quite potent at the start but 12 hours later, there isn't much left except a lovely thin wisp of complexity. If money were no object, I'd like to work my way through his oeuvre but at about £8 per ml x lots of different scents, it's a bit of a forlorn hope.

DS admired PoaL, the real thing, in the car a few days ago. He was wearing Penhaligon Opus 1870 for his Winter Ball, and a brocade tux from about 1965 that I bought in 1984. Sobs with sentiment........

mrsreynolds · 05/02/2018 20:31

PoaL is truly truly beautiful...but too much for me
It doesn't seem to suit me, sadly

EliseC1965 · 05/02/2018 20:48

I got the invite to Floral Street as well, but 8 don’t finish work until 5.30 and it take an hour to get to London. I wish they did these things at weekends.
Has anyone been to the PS sense of smell events? I’ve been to a couple, when they were at the old Les Senteurs shop and the amazing Jo Fairley was running the first one. I can recommend going to one as they are so interesting and really fun. Plus a great goody bag :)

SoFancy · 05/02/2018 21:01

The Floral Street thing sounds fun. I shall investigate.

Full on February Blues today. It’s so cold and grey. I’m snuggling up in my PJs and Captured by Candlelight tonight Grin
