Someone’s hair drawer has the aroma of warm knickers on the chandelier - Lovely Friendly Perfume Thread 10

Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

I have made a new discovery in my local health food shop. Natural perfume powders - Nag Champa & Frangipani. They smell wonderful. The Nag Champa smells woody with lots of Sandalwood and Vetiver. The Frangipani is smooth and natural with an oil blend plus vetiver & Sandalwood. I’m going back to buy some tomorrow.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 21/02/2018 17:56

Nag Champa is the incense recommended for space clearing rituals. (I used to dabble in the erm, esoteric)
Ooh I often have a little chat with the lovely Sam of ISYAD. It's probably my favourite regularly updated blog (along with Scented Hound and Bois de J. ) We have very similar tastes.

I have lain on my sickbed ignoring marking and browsing the Parisienne threads. I get like this at the tail end of winter. All determined to leap out of my comfort zone. Trouble is, what little free time there is tends to be spent on.perfume sites rather than French scarf sites. I did order a grey blue eyeliner and some grey eyeshadow though.

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 18:16

Just home to some lovely packages - thank you floozy and count Flowers

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 18:19

ELD'O Faun is now a sweetish rosey amber and rather pretty.

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 18:30

Had a bugger of a day
So sote is sexiest scent

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 18:38

MrsR, I hate to say it but I've just sprayed some Lady Rose Lion and my first thought was...Knowing! I mean, obviously the peach note is pretty full on in LRL but the rose/oakmoss/woody notes are all there...sorry Grin

I have Maxed Out on the other wrist. This is hilarious - I think we should have another category of 'giggle-inducing' perfumes because this is actually making me laugh. It's sweat, dope and caipiranhas and actually it's rather sexy and bloody fabulous.

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 18:52

Kittens!!!
Nooooooooooo

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 18:53

(Although exactly the reason I thought I'd love it!!)

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 19:06

Btw do PP still do chanel dupes?

auberginesrus · 21/02/2018 19:34

Today I've tried out What I did on My Holidays. Lovely! I'm wafting around coconut vanillary gorgeousness, reminding myself of old fashioned tanning oil.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 21/02/2018 19:34

Ooh the ELDO sample set sounds good! I've only tried Bendelirious - terrible longevity but lovely scent. I've also spent a bit too long today looking at the vintage sample sets on Perfume Court. Considering buying 1/4ml samples feels a bit mad but Scent and Subversion has really got me curious about some of the classics and it's be a lot quicker and easier than browsing eBay. Having to remind myself that the tax would be a killer...

SotD is an EBay vintage Diorissimo win. Very nice and great for the time of year. Massive green grass opening and settled into beautiful white floral slightly soapy or powdery skin scent by end of the day.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 21/02/2018 19:37

MrsR this might be another one for an old thread trawl - they renamed them into obscure things (pretty sure my first post was the ones I'd worked out actually!!) I know Sycamore was called Moreish on PP - that's still listed but out of stock. Can't remember the rest but will see if I can find the old list...

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 21/02/2018 20:07

I think this might be it, I remember screenshotting it (for future research Wink)

eBay is good if you just want to try see in you like something. I'd try there first before PP.

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 20:16

Thanks floofy 💐
None of the ones I want try....typical!!

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 21/02/2018 20:27

Excellent, it attached, now I can safely do a long boring post without fearing of losing it when attaching a photo Grin Have to say, I haven't been over awed with any of the PP Chanels, of the few I've tried. Any recommendations?

I have seen frugal about here and there (rocking some awesome lipsticks!) but I do miss green and a few others.

I do love the thought of all of us receiving little recycled Jiffy bags with big Y stickers, from each other. Very heart warming. (Sorry cheap I really think I've sent you a dud though there...over promise and under deliver much! Blush)

Interesting reading the LT thing about 4160s, I think WIDOMH and Ealing Green are my top two, with Babylon Sunset coming up for bronze (too much Olympics!)

I love a bit of Nag Champa incense! My house smells very 1960s/70s Smile teta what are the perfume powders, I haven't heard of them but they sound awesome...

I am trying to decide on a Scent for a Big Important Legal Meeting this week...I need something to give me confidence but also give me equanimity if we don't get the result we need (which seems likely tbh) I might resort to Paloma Picasso. Bloody RL at the moment, I'm trying to hold off on cracking open Spring perfumes until March at least but I need something. The very last straw is a missing moggy which is worrying me more than any of my health stuff! And I had a Classic MN fight over a parking space today Shock

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 20:31

Paloma sounds like a good choice x

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 21/02/2018 20:40

Ah Floofy that's foresight! I've just trawled and copied to clipboard. Screenshotting and actually saving is genious!!

Agree about EBay though- I picked up two lots of three samples of exclusives a couple of weeks ago from a French seller. Small bottles but great for trying. Am quite liking them all but that's a good thing. Making me realise just jumping at Coromandel might not be the right thing to do and I should be more considered cause some of the others are well lovely too!

MrsGruber · 21/02/2018 20:42

Careful Terriers, the first time I smelt 4160s perfumes the only one I liked, even a bit, was Paris 1948....And look at me now Shock.

I like the idea of a funnies list EK - although Maxed Out isn't so amusing on me. Monster sweat and lime notes, without very much booze or drugs or rock n roll. My PH balance feels disturbed by wearing it, but I remain fond of it, because it is plain outrageous.

The Great Randello does it for me - the opening curl of perfectly executed cigar smoke is so realistic I can almost see wisps of it; always makes me laugh - such a gorgeous gourmand. And of course B** - for the ridiculusness of smelling like organic matter on the floor of a dank cave, and that actually being quite and interesting, attractive and coherent smell.

Also, Bluebell, Jasmin et Cigarette smells of indolic (ok, pooey) jasmine and an unlit cigarette on me. Not so much straightforward lovely, as incredibly realistically composed to the extent it makes me swoon and laugh at the same time. And it does settle into a less challenging and pretty jasmine tea.

PiaM - hope you feel better soon? Was wondering who Iain is and what he's doing on your sick bed - but should I read that as lain as in lying down?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 21/02/2018 20:45

Perfumed Court prices are astronomical. Bide your time on ebay for vintages. I have, over the past 2 years scored: Chanel 19, Miss Dior 10ml, Miss Dior cologne, Diorissimo (enormous unopened bottle £20 ) Vent Vert edp in tiny cuboid bottle together with a 3ml of original Fracas for 12 euro, Sealed and cellophaned enormous bottle of Vent Vert 1970s formulation, numerous Dioressences and Diorellas, an original Eau de Gucci (quirky blue and red plastic canister), a L'air du Temps sealed gift set from the 70s, a 1980s FB of Ysatis, a Cabochard, Arpege parfum essence, a mini set with Paloma P, Fidji, original Versace, a big Fidji, and a load more I can't even remember.

They are all there. Hidden in plain sight. You just have to wait until someone lists not knowing what they've got.

MrsGruber · 21/02/2018 20:51

Shame you're not here PiaM. If it wasn't for the postage costs we could give you commission in exchange for acting as our agent which would also stop us from bidding against each other!

MotherofTerriers · 21/02/2018 20:58

Oh well MrsGruber, if you can't be a Good Example, you can at least be a Terrible Warning.....
I do like the idea of a half price scent of the week......

MrsGruber · 21/02/2018 21:00

Floof - would incense help with the equanimity? I can try and get some Passage D'Enfer to you if that would be of assistance?

Any cat news? Missing mogs are such a worry.

CountFosco · 21/02/2018 21:05

SotD Iris Cendre. Leathery Iris. Not much sillage on me at all but I struggle with leather notes so that was probably good. I should probably resniff but instead I went for Goodbye Piccadilly for this evening which I love the drydown of, I got a major patchouli hit last time but will probably be asleep by the time it kicks in!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 21/02/2018 21:06

Oh, I'd missed Floofy cat was.missing. Fingers crossed he's back.
No, no Iains of any kind on my sickbed. Just Matt Smith who is making me want to give up on the Crown such is my intolerance of him. (Not as much as Cumberbatch who I actually refuse to watch though)
