Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

AKBTF is truly lovely - I can totally see why you had that reaction to it.
And sexiest scebt is just....oooof ❤
I got it as a freebie sample with another order and within 10 mins I was on the 4610 website ordering a bottle 😁

JanetStWalker · 20/02/2018 22:50

Thanks you for my parcel, Bluebell. My handbag is very grateful Wink.

Wearing some of MrsGs Passage d'Enfer in the hope that some of it's peaceful serenity rubs off on me. Insomnia is just the worst!

JanetStWalker · 20/02/2018 22:53

Take chanel...smells like cat pee on me

Have you tried all the Chanels, mrsr?

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 23:00

Rather surprisingly the Amberama is still going...it's been a skin scent for a while, but still a very definite presence, what, 14 hours on. Yes, it is definitely extrait strength!

All this ELd'O talk has had me sniffing the Jasmin et Cigarette (which if I remember correctly, I should thank Bluebell for again?). If anyone spots this in TK Maxx please could they shout too? Monster jasmine and an unsmoked cigarette.

Ollivander84 · 20/02/2018 23:02

Jasmine is cat pee on me. Especially if it's combined with ylang ylang... think Lush flying fox shower gel type. Grim!

Scent of the night is the new Dove shower mousse in rose (v nice) and love therapy balm from here. Linking because it genuinely smells really good, they do candles and balms

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 23:35

Funny you say that Ollivander. Dcat has been over to see me here in 'perfume corner' twice in the last ten minutes. Uncharacteristically, both times she's retreated with her ears back.

teta · 20/02/2018 23:38

Sotd is Laine de verre by Serge Lutens .
Pine scented Windolene and one of the mist disliked scents on Fragrantica. But I happen to like it.
I’m not sure whether some of the stalwarts are still around under various guises/name changes.
Wasn't Frugal the original thread innovator?
Janetstwalker thank you for the offer of the Bois de iles.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the perfume.

JanetStWalker · 20/02/2018 23:47

teta, I'm doing a PO run tomorrow, if you'd like some please PM your details again.

MrsGruber · 21/02/2018 04:56

I'd like to thank Frugal for kick-starting my perfumista education - she was responsible for a lot of links to great blogs and books, including LT's back catalogue. Had the best time reading his Portfolio collection - just great writing. Such a shame he had to wind-up the 'ilove' blog project - we need that guide to niche houses!

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 07:26

SOTMorning is Etui Noir. Thankfully the vetiver (my Nemesis Note) is pretty understated; what I get instead is a woody, dry iris and leather. Lovely. I just wish it had a bit more longevity.

However I'm sure I'll give the ELD'O a run out when it arrives later. Ollivander I fancy giving Rossy De Palma a try too.

I gave a small selection of rose samples to a colleague yesterday - she was delighted Smile. Now we are cooking up the idea of running a scent sampling workshop as part of a 'staff wellbeing' initiative, although I'm really not sure I have the expertise for that and I don't think the faculty budget would stretch to asking Sarah Mac to bring her Wall of Scent!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 21/02/2018 07:42

You have all made me want to try AKBTF now, and I don't fancy many of the 4160 descriptions!

Sotd is migraine pill and one of those kool headache strips. Am off sick. Literally. Blurgh.

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 08:13

Another Kiss is indeed lovely. I too can see why @ollivander had that reaction. It's very nostalgic for me and conjures up a very specific time and place. Plus its a lavender that doesn't go minty on me so that's a bonus!

Ollivander84 · 21/02/2018 09:00

SOTD is AKBTF after this thread!
I've only ever had strong reactions to two perfumes, one being AKBTF and the other being a lush/gorilla one called the Bug. I felt claustrophobic and panicky while smelling it and virtually threw it away from me. Made me feel uneasy and on edge, very strange

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 09:05

Get well soon PIAM Flowers

MotherofTerriers · 21/02/2018 10:57

Paris 1948 today. Probably my favorite so far, I like this one
Rather given up on trying to identify notes. Can't work out what this one reminds me of

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 11:09

Get well soon piam 💐

janet I haven't. Ive only tried the dept store chanels (iyswim?) So no 5, no 19, coco, cristalle...
I would love to try coromandel and bois des illes (sp?) but sadly living as I do in the arse end of nowhere I have no idea where I could find them 😔

I have a similar issue with guerlain tbh..the only guerlain stockists near me only stocks the twelvety million petit robe noir flankers 🤢 and samsara and mitsouko. I would like to try jicky.

Been out for breakfast with mum and it was horrible - how can you get scrambled egg wrong??

Sotd PP opium

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 11:10

bluebell...parcel on its way 👍

auberginesrus · 21/02/2018 11:36

I bought a 9ml AKBTF as it was scent of the week on 4160s but I really don't like it! It just doesn't suit me at all, think the lavender is too big and it settled to the sort of leathery aftershave smell my Dad used to wear in the 1970s but smelt wrong on me Sad

Do PM me if you would like it - I've learned so much from this thread already that I am happy to pass on.

In other news I spent all weekend while away for my friend's birthday wearing Ealing Green - which I loved and got some nice compliments from my friends as well, so will be requesting a FB for mother's day I think Grin

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 13:01

It didn't suit me either 😔 bit it's a beautiful scent. So evocative. I think 4610 understand that very well

explodingkittens · 21/02/2018 13:38

SOTMiddleoftheday is ELD'O Afternoon of a Faun. Wowzers. The top notes of this go through about 79 incarnations before settling (if that's the right word) on a very aromatic, herbal, spicy heart. Lots of immortelle, burnt coffee and pepper and now drying down to something approaching powderiness, but not quite. Too noisy to be powder.

It's odd, and complex, but I was expecting that and I like it. It's quite fierce, both in terms of 'attitude' and sillage, and it's probably not strictly suitable for the office but my long-suffering office mate isn't here today...

Gorgeous heavy bottle, anyway Wink

BluebellGal · 21/02/2018 13:53

SOTD 4160 Sex Goddess (last of a sample) which I’m enjoying so much today. Thanks mrsReynolds for posting me your unwanted bottle (and Janet for gifting in the first place)

So glad everyone’s packages arrived and are being enjoyed. Lots of love for Miller Harris and glad to have my judgement on sexiest scent actually being WIDOMH vindicated. Thought I was going mad! I love that one & so does Luc Turin in the review posted above. I agree the top notes are quite something, but best saved for a sunny day.

Yep mrsGruber I sent the Eldo jasmine et cigarette. It was so indolic on me - smelt like poo on my skin with a bit of fag ash. So glad it’s lovely on you!

I’ve been trawling through TK Maxx but have resisted. If you’d like to try more Eldo’s there’s a 22 piece sample set on their website for just 39 Euros - quite a bargain for an interesting niche house.

BluebellGal · 21/02/2018 13:57

kittens jealous of your perfume event - wish there were people in my real world who shared an interest. Let us know how it goes!

Ah yes the early people have dropped away- I especially remember Green Frugal and perhaps Cointreauversial (or that may be another thread). Sam of iscentyouaday told me that she used to post on this thread, but had to stop as it was taking up too much of her time!

JanetStWalker · 21/02/2018 16:15

That little Sex Goddess has been all round the country trying to find a home that wanted her. I could weep for her. Sad

My Tauer Amber oil arrived today with a nice sized sample of Amber Flash. I shall be anointing myself generously later. Grin

mrsreynolds · 21/02/2018 16:31

Oh! I feel bad for her now 😔😁
I'm browsing online for new scents
Must. Stop. 😣

OCSockOrphanage · 21/02/2018 16:59

Weep not, for the Sex Goddess has found her happy place! Where is the climax emoji?

SoTD is Sel Marin, because it's sunny and breezy out, and it's perfection for the promise of spring (even though it's back to winter overnight and for a week to come).
