Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Do you want a sample, mrsr?

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 20/02/2018 16:03

So I have a FB of Amberama (love it so much!) Happy to decant a bit if/when your sample runs out!

Not sure if I should admit my wedding day scent was a No Malone

SotD is London 1969 in honour of a half term trip with DS. We were near Covent Garden and I really could have spent hours there were it not for him being bored senseless but he did permit a quick peek in Floral Street. Couldn't stop for long but picked up the Discovery Set and had a quick chat with the staff there (me and DS only other people in shop!) and they were very enthusiastic and friendly. Had a spray of Ylang Ylang espresso on a strip (nothing on me as already had the London 1969 on) and it seemed nice but quite sweet. I suspect sweet may be their signature but will see how the sample set goes...

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 16:05

If you have one Janet that would be very kind ❤
I only have my paltry PP opium to offer unless anyone wants a decant ....and I can figure out how to do it 😣🤣

CountFosco · 20/02/2018 16:40

SotD is Ambre Ceruleen. I smell like I've been doused in baby powder.

Put in offer on a wreck of a house yesterday that was refused. Put in second offer (5% more) today. It was also refused and they told us what the vendor wanted. I laughed. Time to start looking again (and try not to think of the parquet floor in the beautiful house that's not in catchment that we MUST NOT BUY).

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 16:41

That sou ds roght up my street count!

And ooooooh to parquet flooring ❤

MrsPestilence · 20/02/2018 18:58

Oooooh, congratulations Kitten. You are going to smell great, even if you just grab No 19 for courage.

MrsR MNND is a fruity chypre.

SotD is Fleur Defendue by Lolita Lempicka. It is all soft and fluffy with undertones of almond. Not at all what I usually wear but very nice.

Luxuriating in four big sprays of Amberama, tonight...yesssss.
Bluebell, thank you very, very much for your lovely package! Grin

Cheap - thats very lovely of you. I've got a 9ml now courtesy of a lovely MN-er, but the offer is very kind Grin.

Good luck with house-hunting, Fosco. Hellish at times. I'd never heard of Ambre Ceruleen, but just looked it up and it sounds lovely. Enjoy!

Posted parcels first thing this morning - sorry for delay, peeps. I'm pretty useless with getting to the post office.

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 20:03

Pest...its MITPG I want to try 😁MNND was ok. But as you say - a bit fruity for me.
Sote sexiest scent

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 20:39

Looking back through past threads was interesting yesterday. Lots of people currently posting have been around since the early ones. But was feeling a bit sad that some stawlwarts, including Green, MissBattleaxe, Lesincompetents and Frugal, haven't been around in a while. Or maybe I am just failing to keep up with name changes, but either way, I hope everyone is doing OK...

Judydreamsofhorses · 20/02/2018 20:39

SOTD is JHAG Mad Madame. I have a vile cold and can smell nothing. Poor me.

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 20:46

*Stalwarts even.

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 20:51

Luca Turin on 4160s. Two of my favourite perfume-related things in one place Grin.

SoFancy · 20/02/2018 20:59

Thanks for the link, MrsG! jubilant and unpretentious, a happy wallowing in the richness and beauty of fragrance materials - yes, Luca! Yes!

mrsreynolds - MITPG is probably my favourite 4160. Not for everyday wear, but as a treat. It feels luxurious. The top notes are supposed to be jasmine and blood orange, with a woody and vanilla base. But I get lemon, frangipani, honey and a gourmand sweetness, like dates and baclava. Its gorgeous...but I have a vague memory that you dislike frangipani?? I've been gifted a 9ml by another Perfumista. If I can work out how to decant at some point over the next week or so I'll send you a sample.

SoFancy · 20/02/2018 21:00

Oh, and jasmine! Lots of jasmine in MITPG

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 21:13

I've read that LT review of 4610 before 😁
It's great

Have to say, however, I found lady rose lion vile. Total scrubber for me.

AKBTF is lovely, but not for me. Too smoky (tobacco is a troublesome ingredient for me I've decided...)

I haven't smelt the others he mentions but they don't sound my sort of thing - that being said I'd love to sniff them all!

Amberama sounds intriguing - as does creamy vanilla custard 😁

I absolutely am not allowed any more purchases til after Easter 😣

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/02/2018 21:15

I always considered Frugal to be our fragrant leader and hold her personally responsible for the 300 or so perfumes in.various shapes and sizes in my wardrobe.

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 21:18

And speaking of the unpretentious, didn't SarahMc describe MitPG as smelling a bit like the fruit bowl you forgot to empty before going on holiday - or was that something else...?

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 21:19

I do dislike frangipani fancy! Well remembered 😁

I find with 4610s though, that sometimes, the stated notes aren't that prevalent?

I'm worried I'm becoming boring!!
I seem to like woody vanilla/woody oriental/woody spicy/woody rose/powder/musk/balsamic/white floral and I'm partial to a citrus top note!

Make of that ^ what you will!! 🤔🤣

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 21:22

She's certainly responsible for a fair few of mine PiaM. And wow, 300 is quite a collection...have you got a spreadsheet?

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 21:38

Get well soon @judy

MitPG is, for me, the proof that LT is wrong when he says that body chemistry plays no part in how a perfume smells. I get nothing, nothing at all of the glorious notes that are supposed to be in that juice. On me it's just a thin, tinny, dull skin-scent. And whilst I'm perfectly happy to admit I'm no expert, my nose isn't completely broken so it can't just be that I'm rubbish at identifying them, or just don't like them. They simply aren't there when I wear it.

I don't think that sounds boring at all @mrsr!

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 21:42

Oh and thank you @bluebell, for the lovely package that arrived today! Etui Noir really is fab - divine woody, smoky, leathery iris, I absolutely love it. And White Spirit - I'd never even heard of that so will enjoy discovering it.

I wasn't on the early threads but I love reading them back and became quite a fan of the glamorous globetrotting Frugal!

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 22:02

I absolutely agree wrt skin chemistry!

Take chanel...smells like cat pee on me 😣

It's always a bit 😔 when you smell something divine on others (like estee by estee lauder that my late aunt wore) and you try it on yourself and it makes you almost gag 😣😔

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 22:10

TK Maxx: if you search on mens fragrance there's a lot more ELd'O including a 7 x 2m sample set. And Encre Noir (extreme version). Just need to wade through the beard oil....Grin

Ollivander84 · 20/02/2018 22:25

mrs - I adore AKBTF, it made me cry when I smelt it Blush
Creamy vanilla crumble is slightly smoky vanilla to me, v v lovely
Amberama is similar to eau my soul (which I love) but fresh raspberries too

My favourite is probably sexiest scent, which smells like the perfume I've always wanted. It smells like me, for want of a better explanation! MNND is another fave

Ollivander84 · 20/02/2018 22:28

Oh and if anyone ever spots eldo rossy de palma on TK Maxx, please scream loudly Grin I am trying to find a FB at a not extortionate price
