Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Grin kittens up the apples and pears is supposed to conjure up an east end pub isn’t it? Picked onions are perfect then (but perhaps not for a professional meeting!)

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/02/2018 08:08

I can still smell the PP Opium on my left wrist but the real Opium on my right has gone totally.

Gerald is German and sells decants on Crystal Flacon. He is widely approved of as being above board. Basenotes recommends him.

Gerald

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/02/2018 08:13

I fancy some Nuit de Noel, Parfum Sacre, La Fumee, Bal a Versailles and Boy.....maybe some proper Jicky (I have PP but a roll on and I can't be faffed with them) He has some Tauers....

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 08:13

Im in PP opium today piam and it's gorgeous
(Sniffs self)
Oooh might have to check out Gerald (next week after payday!)
Im getting a little dismayed at 4610 T
😔I adore sexiest scent. It's just fabulous. But of all the others I've tried (10-11 now?) I just think "meh"

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 08:13

Oh and lady rose lion is foul

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 08:18

Monster Munch - that's it! I couldn't get on with that savoury note.

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 08:43

It is very monster munchy Grin

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 08:46

Right - TKMaxx have ELDO Afternoon of a Faun for £49. It sounds right up my boulevard and my finger is hovering over the checkout button... someone talk me down.

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 08:57

Giving Amberama a proper run-out today. (It arrived whilst I had 'flu). So far so promising - seems to combine the 4160s deft touch with fruit with a rich amber base (more Eau My Soul than Shazam!). Opening smells like red berries and rose geranium, with a cosy labdanum/vanilla vibe coming through underneath. Will be interested to see how it develops. Smell like it belongs alongside the lovely Who Knew and Rosa Ribes.

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 09:00

EK - slight middle aged brain fail. I sought that out once and sniffed. Don't recall the detail - but overall impression was it was pleasant but not quite as interesting as I'd expected.

MrsGruber · 20/02/2018 09:07

Any scope to buy it, but quickly order a sample from somewhere so, if you are not smitten, you can return unopened?

Empreinte is also there for £12.99 - complete bargain for (soft)leather chypre fans. The reformulation is good.

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 09:14

Amberama sounds lovely; I'm addicted to Eau my Soul and would love a big bottle but it is pricey...could be a wedding contender though...

I agree to an extent about 4160s @MrsR. It took me quite a while to 'get' their perfumes (not suggesting you haven't 'got them' but hopefully ykwim) and I definitely had a few duds. I think what I personally love about them now is that they simply don't smell like anything else, so even the ones that don't 'work' on me are still interesting enough to keep me coming back (pickled onion monster munch notwithstanding Wink)

BluebellGal · 20/02/2018 09:16

SOTD is FM Carnal Flower (I think!) thanks to teta love it - it’s very loud and I’m about to arrive at work Blush

Thanks Piam for introducing me to Gerald - was looking for a decent decant source.

mrsreynolds if you’re not into sex Goddess you can send it to me! I love it! I have plenty to swap if you let me know what you like (orientals, vanilla and musk I think?)

Kittens must say I find Eldo interesting but underwhelming as a house. Nothing I’ve tried that’s good has great longevity or sillage, they also have some I have hated (but I know others love), they are a risk. But probably resell ok on eBay

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 09:16

Oh that's a very clever idea @MrsG. I have bought it, I am weak Blush

I'm also getting it delivered to work. Sign of a guilty conscience or what??

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 09:17

Yes, I though that about eBay too @bluebell. Honest guv Grin

Ollivander84 · 20/02/2018 09:25

SOTD Mrs gloss indoors. I love the outdoors version but am giving this s proper try!

OCSockOrphanage · 20/02/2018 09:55

Piling more Flowers and congratulations at the feet of Kittens and her DP. Wedding scents... we shall have weeks months of fun pondering this one, perfumistas.

My wedding was so long ago, it predates my addiction, but I would guess it was Eau de L'Artisan. (Not what I would choose now, but it was around the time I made the acquaintance of Liberty's fragrance hall and I had a tendency to get overwhelmed.

Today is Rose Tuberose, from TPS box.

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 10:23

Bluebell...happy to 😁
I'll pm you
I do wonder what is wear if I was getting married now (I got married in may)
Hmmmm....
I'll have to think about that!!

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 10:25

I agree 4610 is different to anything else out there...i keep trying 😁
Work today. Ugh.

MotherofTerriers · 20/02/2018 11:28

I'm enjoying testing the 4610s. I liked Mrs Gloss made me do it and sunshine and pancakes. I haven't fallen in love with any of them (yet) but they are interesting. Still nothing from Atelier Cologne, might email them

teta · 20/02/2018 11:36

Bluebell thank you for the lovely package of samples.
I’m sitting here adorned with several Miller Harris perfumes and a stick of Blackpool Rock Grin.
It’s interesting to try a new 4160 perfume.
I was one of the first ones to try 4160 and I think the ‘sexiest Scent’ was the first ever sample I ever tried. But I was so new and inexperienced that I couldn’t really detect individual notes. I ended up ordering a bottle of Ururas Tokyo Blossom because of the Violet notes I adored. However as the bottle aged the base notes became predominant and the Violet notes were lost and I ended up swopping this away.
I do love the idea of 4160 and Sarah Mccartney’s enthusiasm and innovative take on things.

SoFancy · 20/02/2018 11:43

Morning all.

Just doing a bit of arsing about online in my coffee break before Big Meeting at work in a bit. Giggling away to myself like a loon at the talk of Monster Munch stench Grin.

SOTD is my CBA (Burberry Women) again. Its just so cosy and I am feeling very much like not wanting to be challenged at the moment.

PIAM - You're bang on here: "I always think of chypres as something your nose needs to work on to really "get" Chypres are the difference between watching something mindless and nice on telly and something that really makes you think". I feel the same.

Mrsreynolds – Tell me what you think of the Manifesto PP. I don't know the Isabella Rosselini one or the original YSL one, but I rate Manifesto L'Elixir, which is an intense, gourmand version.

MrsGruber – I got sample of Amberama from a lovely Perfumista here Grin and I love it. Its super strong on projection, too, for a 4160 (which I love). Is it an extrait? Went straight on to the 4160 site to get a 9ml after first spray...but sadly, no such thing exists and I cant afford a FB right now.

SoFancy · 20/02/2018 13:44

MotherofTerriers - keep going back to the 4160 samples. You'll likely have interesting results.

My first loves were Tokyo Spring Blossom, Sunshine and Pancakes, MrsGloss and Doe in the Snow. Still like these very much, but I prefer Sexiest Scent, Tarts Knicker Drawer and Midnight in the Palace Garden down the line.

Some of the 4160s I hated - Ealing Green, Centrepiece and Inevitable Crimes of Passion spring to mind - ended up being loves a good 12-18 months after first sniff.

4160s perfumes have really helped me with identifying different notes, too. All hours of fun, anyway Grin

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 14:08

fancy
I will! On paper I should love manifesto but have be at smelt it so it's a blind buy

I like NR poudre very much
Cashmere mist is another one I should love
We shall see...
I still have a PP opium 3.5ml roll on up for grabs - it's gorgeous 😁

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 14:30

Fancy...
MITPG is about the only 4610 I still want to try...
Whats it like?
