Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

I have come through my monster day unscathed (although when colleague started with her "you must/you have to" I said "one more word from you and I walk" Grin

Long Iris and Lavender bath and am now in pyjamas and PP Opium on left wrist and real Opium on right.

PP is stronger, definitely, and spicier.

Lay in the bath on ebay searching old Diors and new Chanel decants. May put a PP order in to quash my desires.

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 19:04

I think PP opium is more like the 1977 original I remember piam
I'm debating a PP order too....

Ollivander84 · 19/02/2018 19:07

Count - its a strange one. I keep sniffing my arm because I do like it but then think "God this would be heaven on a bloke" and then back to sniffing my arm Grin
Maybe I'm just making myself smell hot Grin

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 19/02/2018 19:19

Ooh Kittens!! When when when? (Just for assessing appropriate scents, obviously...Grin).

PIAM I'd love someone coming to my funeral radiating 19. I've never given much thought to scents for funerals but there's something comfortingly "in the present" about it while still evoking memories.
Also, may have taken delivery of some vintage Diorissimo at the weekend and, inspired by the Chypre talk on TBS started looking for some Diorella. Ahem.

MrsGruber · 19/02/2018 19:26

EK in the hope of redeeming myself, here's the link to the discussion of Mary's Scottish wedding perfume quest on Thread 3

I think Floof's suggestion is brilliant. I'd've thought you stand a very good chance of creating something memorable and lovely. But if you don't, what a fabulous excuse to book another one-

Not sure how others who have done workshops feel - but I've been really surprised both times by how much I like the resulting concoction and do reserve one of them for very special occasions.

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 19:33

How exciting Kittens!

I wore Coco Mamoiselle on my wedding day and I don’t particularly like it now. I wish I’d gone for something better! I was en route to my Italian wedding through Paris (like you do) and visited the Chanel store on Rue Chambon to buy my wedding perfume. Ended up going with CM - what was I thinking? Wish I had one of you with me, rather than my bored husband to be. Should have gone to Guerlain on CE. I wasn’t as sophisticated then as I am now (obvs) Blush

Kate Middleton wore Illumnium Gardenia on her wedding day - teta kindly sent me some last week and it’s rather lovely for a wedding (white floral).

Byredo do one called ‘brides’. I think I’d pick something from Bulgari today or Santal Blush. I’d go for Francis Kurkdjian to justify the expense, but his stuff has far too big a sillage for a bride imo

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 19:34

Err Rue Cambon Blush

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 19:36

Err don’t even know how to spell Coco M - really made an impression on me!

JanetStWalker · 19/02/2018 19:40

Coco Mademoiselle Intense is out next month. Not a fan of the original at all but the new stuff is supposedly much less screechy so I'm open to giving it a go.

Wedding scent planning sounds very exciting, congratulations, kitten!

MrsGruber · 19/02/2018 19:41

Whatever you wear, EK, get a second bottle. I got married in Ultima II Sheer Scent (it was a scorchio location). Wasn't an especially fancy choice at the time but it goes for £££s on ebay now Sad.

Motoko · 19/02/2018 19:59

Ooh Kittens congratulations! I can't offer any suggestions as I'm merely a novice. I don't remember what I wore for my wedding, or even if I wore perfume!
Anyway, I'm sure you'll get excellent suggestions from those more knowledgeable. Flowers

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 20:00

If you like rose then there's always estee lauder beautiful or pleasures
(Both used bridal advertising iirc)

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 20:35

Thank you all! Some lovely suggestions; I currently stink of roses of various sorts as have been doing the aforementioned decants and am not very good at aiming my sprays, as t'were...

I've never sniffed Coco Mademoiselle, I don't think Blush

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 20:41

Ollivander, I've been wearing Stash today as well. Started off in lovely Heure Exquise but it had pretty much disappeared by lunchtime and I had the rollerball of Stash in my bag so topped up with that.

I do get what you mean about wanting to smell it on a man - I reckon it would be fab. I like it a lot but there is something missing from it that I can't quite put my finger on. It feels as if it needs a bit more heft or solidity, perhaps; it feels a bit thin, almost.

SoFancy · 19/02/2018 20:47

Congratulations, kittens! Grin.

I wore Stella McCartney on my wedding day, which seems a bit pedestrian now, but I was young and it was my ‘signature’ at the time.

No suggestions, but make you it’s sonething you feel fabulous in! Flowers

JanetStWalker · 19/02/2018 21:02

Stash to me is like Jeux de Peau without all the interesting bits.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/02/2018 21:37

kittens how exciting, congratulations! I know Jo Malone gets no love here, but I remember reading about someone who layered Red Roses with Black Vetiver Cafe (which is now discontinued anyway) for her wedding and thought it sounded lovely. BVC was so good.

SOTD is LDR again. I think I am in a perfume rut. It’s my birthday at the weekend so I may need to spend birthday money on something lovely.

positivepineapple · 19/02/2018 21:50

Thanks for the advice Re Perfume houses, lots of sniffing to look forward to Smile

Congratulations Kittens!
*
Bluebell -* I also wore coco mademoiselle on my wedding day! I've completely gone off it now. Although, am intrigued to try the new version.

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 22:45

Ooh there’s a new Coco Mademoiselle?! Might rekindle my interest in it. Worth a sniff!

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 23:01

Floofy Scent of a Dream is a good example of a recent Chypre. It claims to be a Chypre and I think it actually is.

I’ve smelt quite a few modern Chypres recently and I don’t think they are Chypres... like Tenue de Soirée Annick Goutal

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/02/2018 06:33

I missed Kitten's announcement! Congratulations!

Cheap, everyone needs skanky Diorella and sophisticated Dioressence in their collection. Both would be in my top 10 of all time. You need the old versions of both, but especially Diorella as the new thing is a travesty. Ebay.de has a few 10mls knocking around.

I always think of chypres as something your nose needs to work on to really "get" Chypres are the difference between watching something mindless and nice on telly and something that really makes you think. Some modern chypres are definitely not, to my nose.

Was browsing Gerald's decants last night, remember him? Still v reasonably priced. Might order a few bits.

mrsreynolds · 20/02/2018 06:58

Who's Gerald??
I did a PP order after all 🤣
I've gone for manifesto, NR poudre and DK cashmere mist.
Hmmm....ds2 had a bad night last night so I'm thinking opium to keep me awake 😩😁
I wouldn't say I "get" chypre but I know which ones I like...woody and oriental chypres
Not keen on floral or citrusy ones
Yawn....must....get...out...of...bed...

explodingkittens · 20/02/2018 07:20

Tried Up The Apples And Pears again this morning. I liked this the other day once it got past the metallic opening, but this morning all I could smell was the pickled onions @Janet mentioned.

Pickled onions in the privacy of my own office might be ok but I have a big meeting this morning and I'm not sure it's quite the impression I want to make! Unfortunately, I didn't really get a chance to scrub properly before rushing out of the door, so I fear I'm now going into a meeting where I want to impress, smelling of pickled onions...and vanilla custard Grin

JanetStWalker · 20/02/2018 07:31

Sorry, not sorry Kittens Grin

Imagine if I hadn't planted the pickled onion seed, you'd be going into your meeting totally oblivious to the Monster Munch stench you were inflicting on those poor, defenceless souls. Shock

JanetStWalker · 20/02/2018 07:39

Now they'll just assume you're reliving your childhood with the custard combo. Grin
