Someone’s hair drawer has the aroma of warm knickers on the chandelier - Lovely Friendly Perfume Thread 10

Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

I find ebay.de is the best for bargainous smells, though of course my amazing Vent Verts came from ebay.fr.

Been awol madbusy. School is a 'mare with 20 kids put forward for a private exam they have no hope in passing in the 30 hours I've been given to prepare them. All I am doing is rewriting their work rather than correcting it. Colleague who does the admin for the course and is my dear perfumista friend moans "you have to do this with them" and is also coming close to being told to fuck off.

Saturday I thought of you all..was the month anniversary of BIL's demise so there was special mass thingy. I had intended to be in Bloom Lime Basil and grabbed the bottle spraying very liberally (it cost £4 and though gorgeous, sillage is zero) Only after hefty spray realised was in Chanel 19 edp- bottle is identical and if the wind was blowing in the right direction you lot in the UK could probably smell me.

Damn but I smelt good, so am going for it again today for horrible exam course.

How come it's Monday again? Confused Wet, grey, bus was late, missed train, next one cancelled, raaaargh. Still, am in a cloud of AG Heure Exquise which sort of makes up for it. Sort of.

Sounds like fun PIAM - best of luck for today (and lol at the no. 19!)

pineapple, I'm also with fancy on checking out some of the big houses first, especially Guerlain who were really my gateway drug in terms of the 'classics'. You may need a really big dept store though - my local HoFraser is quite good for the 'oldies' but that's not always the case ime.

Am going to make up a little surprise package tonight of rose-based samples for a colleague who expressed an interest in my opinion on rose scents (I'm an expert obvs!) - I really enjoy the swapping side of things, gotta spread the love!

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 09:17

SOTD Ormonde Jayne Vanille D’Iris. Now plotting how I’m going to get a FB of this or another cost-effective sample (this stuff is expensive). It’s sooo lovely

Calmwhoknows · 19/02/2018 11:52

I’m wearing Comme des Garçons Concrete today. Sweet spicy sandalwood - I’m really enjoying it. Can’t smell concrete, though!

MotherofTerriers · 19/02/2018 14:14

Sunshine and pancakes today
No email from Atelier Cologne to say my samples have been despatched, and I ordered a week ago. Order showing as complete on the website. Feeling mildly sulky about that

MrsGruber · 19/02/2018 14:38

Zoologist Elephant is SotD today (thanks to Janet). FB worthy; gorgeous aromatic green opening and creamy sandalwood base. Generally really impressed with the Zoologist collection.

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 15:27

Hi mrsG thanks for your PM, will reply when I get home, but if you like Zoologist Elephant I see the nose is Chris Bartlett. I’ve a load of samples he sent me a couple of years ago I’m not using. They are small Danvers. Let me know if you want these - I have: Devana, anjin, gin & lime, simply sandalwood. Think you might like them Smile

BluebellGal · 19/02/2018 15:28

^Should say ‘small dabbers’!

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 17:12

@calm, I'm pretty sure I can detect a 'wet plaster' note in the top notes of Concrete, but I could just be imagining it 😆

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 19/02/2018 17:27

Really dithering on the Escentual 25%discount... how often does it come up? Tempted to splash out on some Chambre Noir - still expensive but the 25% would make a big difference. Any other retailers with good deals every now and then?

Eep!

Was able to pop through HoF today so tried to try Santal Royal. Thought it would be love but was so so dry!! Too much for me and I wasn't feeling brave enough to wait for it to settle so squirted over with Vol De Nuit! All well and good but the SR totally ate up the VDN Confused

The SR has calmed down a bit now and is much more agreeable. The VDN is also peeking through every now and again- feel a bit like one of those Glade Plug ins that rotates scent!!

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 17:40

So, I need some suggestions, my lovely scented friends...

DP and I have finally got around to setting a date for our nuptials. And like any blushing bride-to-be, my very first thought was, what do I wear - perfume-wise of course!

I need your suggestions. It'll be in October, in a very northern part of these isles and I'm no spring chicken Grin

I was thinking Une Rose Chypree but, frankly, I want an opportunity excuse to indulge/sample/purchase, so please hit me up with your weather/age/occasion appropriate suggestions!

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 17:59

Oh oh kittens!!!! How lovely 💞
How about love in white by creed?

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 18:02

I wore avon nightfall on my wedding day nearly 20 years ago
Sigh...

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 18:05

Or going on appropriate scent names...
J adore
Chanel chance
D and g The one
Chloe love
💞😀

MrsGruber · 19/02/2018 18:09

MrsR - congratulations Flowers.

If you track back through our earlier threads you'll see there was a long conversation about wedding choices with a perfumista bride marrying in the North. Think it was MaryLennoxScowl but other people may have a better memory (and apologies if I've got that wrong)? Might've been thread 4 or 5? A lot of excellent suggestions were made and tried.

MrsGruber · 19/02/2018 18:12

Blush Blush Blush

So sorry EK Flowers Flowers

And MrsR Flowers Flowers

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 18:14

Grin @MrsG - I think I recall that thread, will have a search!

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 18:16

Chloe Love is a rose isn't it @mrsr? I do like a nice rose.

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 19/02/2018 18:19

Romance?
Amour?
In Love Again?
I love love?

I'll stop now Grin Oh congratulations though kittens how exciting. I'll leave specific recommendations to more expert Perfumistas, but I would be so tempted to make my own blend?! And wear it on my anniversary every year! Perhaps something linked to your choice of flowers? (I'm not best placed to give advice, I just bought a random bunch of flowers the night before my wedding as I had forgotten flowers Blush)

Cheap have PMed you but my phone is playing up, just PM me your address if it didn't come through Smile

I don't really understand what chypres are either, I mean I know what they are but find it hard to categorise things as such. Does that make sense? It's the trickiest category, for me.

SOTD is Scent of a Dream. Banjaxed by this one, tbh. On paper it sounds right up my alley but I find it very...heavy. It needs a couple of wears I think.

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 18:22

It is kittens yes 😀
Knowing is a beautiful chypre woody rose

explodingkittens · 19/02/2018 18:32

@floofy you're a total genius - I have a perfume workshop coming up in April - doh! Although I fear the likelihood that I'll actually be able to make anything wearable, let alone good enough to wear every year after that, is slim Grin

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 18:41

I tried sex goddess today
Well I'm flummoxed!
Its a mix of sexiest scent and goddess of love and perfume
But I can't makes out sexiest scent at all!
Top note is very fruity IMO
Its nice but not what I expected at all

Ollivander84 · 19/02/2018 18:46

My SJP rollerballs arrived so I'm sniffing stash. I have to say, I want to smell it on a man because I reckon I would be all over that GrinGrin

mrsreynolds · 19/02/2018 18:52

Sote is next cashmere

CountFosco · 19/02/2018 18:55

I want to smell it on a man because I reckon I would be all over that

When I tried Panda it was a bit like that. Thought I'd love it from the notes and I did like it but it just needed something a bit more masculine than me.

SotD L'Air du Temps. There's lots of comments on Fragrantica about it's an old lady scent (as if that was an insult Hmm) but it feels more like a blushing bride. Ponders exactly how far north Kittens is getting married.
