Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Bastarding useless BT have been tinkering with our exchange and I have not had reliable internet this week and have lots to catch up on! Currently Mning from the bloody hospital, I have two weeks of horrible legal/medical appointments, everyone has the plague here and I too will be bloody glad to see Spring on the horizon. I love winter but I'm so over it now! Roll on Easter!

Obviously SOTD is Connock. Really enjoying testing these (thank you lovely lovely MNers) and have shared my wisdom wittered on on the Sniff thread. Please PM me if any lurkers would like me to pass on the joy, or if any of you lot adore a sample and want a duplicate, I will be happy to oblige!

Love the I've had a bath and a hyaluronic sheet mask, fried eggs and chips and am now in Opium, definitely an epic thread title! Or a mantra for a happy life Grin

We have thunder snow here and hopefully later I might have a boiling hot bath and then slather myself in WIDOMHolidays, or Virgin Island Water, or that Avon Bronze Goddess dupe, whose name escapes me...

I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday free of thunder snow!

MrsGruber · 11/02/2018 11:45

The drier, woody aromatic phase after the first hour or so is a bit less interesting.

MrsGruber · 11/02/2018 11:46

Oh pants...wrong thread Blush

BluebellGal · 11/02/2018 12:54

I was excited to spot this storage tub in Flying Tiger which as you can see if perfect for housing my sample collection. Had no price on it so was v surprised to get to the till and find out it was just £2! Spent last night discarding all packaging and TPS boxes now I’ve got my entire collection down to this, organised into woody, floral, oriental etc. Obviously minus all the FBs and travel bottles I own!

Oh as you can see the 4ml Avery E does not fit into this. It’s just the right size for most samples though Smile

BluebellGal · 11/02/2018 12:59

And this is with the lid on. Sorry for my over-excitement but I literally have a whole shelf now free on my bookcase, which was overflowing with boxes and sample cards!

I'm having assize storage envy here, Bluebell. I currently have my samples in an assortment of pouches, boxes and little drug dealer's plastic bags, shoved in crate in my wardrobe.

However, I do have a Tiger on my high street...

FragrantFloozy · 11/02/2018 14:12

assize=massive

ass size Grin

FragrantFloozy · 11/02/2018 14:12

(SoFancy, btw - name changed)

CountFosco · 11/02/2018 14:13

Avery needs to do a shorter fatter bottle clearly.

Loving my Connock from The Big Sniff and since I've received an apology from TPS for my delayed joining box and have been told I can keep my extra Velvet box I have a) just eaten a bar of chocolate and b) sprayed myself with abandon. I like the first 3 perfumes so will keep those double samples but there's one coming up that I shall definitely be offering out to any fans.

JanetStWalker · 11/02/2018 14:19

Never heard of Flying Tiger but that storage case is just the job!

I'm having assize envy, Floozy Grin

Calmwhoknows · 11/02/2018 14:58

MrsGruber/Kittens, Be Careful What You Wish For is one of the few 4160s I haven’t tried, so I can’t help. But the description sounds delightful. I might have to go for a 9ml size plus something else to make the postage worthwhile .

mrsreynolds I have Jessica Simpson’s Fancy Nights, but although I love the bottle I find the perfume a bit patchouli-heavy. I keep trying though, as I find my tastes are changing the further along this perfume journey I go. I like some of the Britney Spears. I have Rocker Femme (top notes of blackberry, coconut and cream) and would like to try Naught Remix if I can get it cheaply.

Bluebell, I love your sample storage solution. What a bargain for only £2! I really need to have a re-sort of mine, which are all sorted in a logical order except for (1) tall bottles which will only go on one particular shelf (2) bottles without their box which have to be stored in a cupboard rather than a see-through plastic container box (3) Perfume Parlour perfumes, which are in a variety of places for reasons which seemed logical at the time, but now means I can never find the one I want!

I have had a lovely time over the last couple of days resmelling and testing my rose samples: Mancera Roseoud & Musk; Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood; 4160Tuesdays Killer Rose; Perfume Parlour Jo Malone Velvet Roses & Oud. I think I will put the JM on the list for the next PP order, to get a bigger bottle. It is delightful and certainly holds up well against the others, considering it is a twentieth of the price, or less!

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 11/02/2018 15:00

I am loving your work bluebell that really is a thing of beauty!

I don't think we have a Tiger round here. I love love love stationery and am already banned from Muji and Paperchase, I can't add Tiger to the list! Interested to see any other beautiful perfume storage solutions btw people...

BigPuddleOfFloofyCatOnTheFloor · 11/02/2018 15:01

Banned by myself from stationery shops I've not been banned from anywhere since oooh 1997 Grin

explodingkittens · 11/02/2018 15:48

Goodness that storage box is perfect, bluebell! We have a Tiger locally so must get myself down there sharpish.

SOTD is Connock Andiroba from the Sniff thread. Enjoying this a lot. However, after getting up at 6.30am to wrangle my toddler nephews who stayed over last night, then battling the supermarket, the chores and several loads of washing (including a mad dash into the garden in a hailstorm to rescue my almost-dry washing from the line - how optimistic was I??) I think I deserve a long hot bath and something luxurious like Shalimar tonight.

Shalimar, a glass of Viognier, brand-new bedlinen...poor dp is miles away at a family do and won't be back tonight so all this luxury is purely for me Grin

explodingkittens · 11/02/2018 15:50

Oh and thanks for the info on BCWYWF - it does sound lovely but I massively overspent in Tesco this morning (god only knows how, I don't seem to have come home with any actual food) so have well and truly blown this week's budget.

Although I did win £8.10 on the euromillions so...

mrsreynolds · 11/02/2018 16:39

calm cheapest I've seen naughty nights remix is on Amazon

Sotd Estee lauder knowing

Everytime I spray this I'm reminded what a great perfume it is

BluebellGal · 11/02/2018 18:38

I’m so glad you guys understand the joy that can be found in a perfect box. My husband was like Hmm while I was sorting them out last night with a big grin on my face. He thinks I’ve lost the plot. So good to be in fellow Perfume addict lover company Grin Floofy I’m also banned from Muji but Tiger is cheaper. I do ask myself repeatedly if I really need something before getting to the till as I’m trying not to buy uneccesary things (thanks to Marie Kondo and the life changing magic of getting rid of shit)

Also enjoying the Andiroba today. Not something I’d normally wear, so pleased to be challenged. Tonight I’m going back to a 4160 gourmand

mrsreynolds · 11/02/2018 18:56

I went to tiger today 😀 but I don't have as many samples as you 😀
I did buy some bathrooms from lush
still think their perfumes are rank
I keep eyeing up the Brittany spears....must not buy!

mrsreynolds · 11/02/2018 18:57

About to spray sexiest scent as sote
😍

MrsGruber · 11/02/2018 19:05

Bluebell - you've inspired me to have a minor tidy-up.

Janet and I were just wondering earlier whether a spring 'swapathon' might be in order?

Anyone interested?

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 11/02/2018 19:38

I meant to say Elise - sounds like a lovely trip. I do like an amble around Selfridges at the Bullring! I do object to their woeful range of Guerlains but otherwise it is lovely. Happy memories of taking my mum there to choose her birthday perfume - wish I could still do that now, was fun!

That box is fab Bluebell. I'm treading water with a jumbly drawer and the box from the LF Advent Calendar. Nowhere near as organised in terms of where things are though - a few vague attempts at grouping by house but that falls apart when you get sets of one thing each from lots of places!

I'm never sure I've got anything you guys would want but if I'm wrong then definitely up for swaps.

laurajohnny · 11/02/2018 19:45

I'm looking for you lovely ladies to share your superior knowledge. I absolutely adore the smell of fresh freesias. They are my favourite flowers and I'd love a fragrance that had a strong freesia note in there. I wasn't overwhelmed with the Jo Malone pear and freesia but wondered if anyone had any other recommendations? It needn't be a a perfume with "freesia" in the title either; I'm wondering if there are any big famous fragrances out there that have a dominant freesia note? Thanks in anticipation!

JanetStWalker · 11/02/2018 19:51

Chanel Beige features freesias I think. It's a nice, warm kind of floral with a bit of honeyed sweetness.

Calmwhoknows · 11/02/2018 20:36

Hi Laura, if you google “best freesia perfumes” you will see links to forums at Fragrantica.com and also Basenotes.net. I had a quick look and there are lots of suggestions on there, including, as well as Chanel Beige, Yardley Freesia, Burberry My Burberry and Gucci Gucci Rush 2. You can also feed in “freesia” in the notes section of Fragrantica to get further suggestions. Good luck hunting!
