Someone’s hair drawer has the aroma of warm knickers on the chandelier - Lovely Friendly Perfume Thread 10

Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

I've just checked...
It's called fantasy intimate edition
I think quite a few powdery musk fans on here would like it 😁

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 15:33

Ooh powdery, musk you say? Grin.

I had a bit of a crazy phase of blind buying celeb scents in the hope of finding a few gems some time ago.

My 'hits' other than JS Fancy were:

Queen Latifah Queen - boozy, spicy, balsamic, gorgeous...

Sofia by Sofia Vergara - plummy, woody, a lot like the Big Sniff's Avery E without the leather, but a lot bigger on projection and with better longevity.

Fairy Dust by Paris Hilton - big old blast of gardenia and tuberose, a bit Madge Truth or Dare-ish.

Obvs Elizabeth Taylor Grin

mrsreynolds · 10/02/2018 15:37

I think the Britany scents are similar to Liz Taylor's in that they are very very well crafted.

I must try fancy nights....

mrsreynolds · 10/02/2018 15:38

On offer £15 for 50mls atm...

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 15:42

I shall sniff next time I'm at Boots. I do love being enabled to buy a bargain Grin

mrsreynolds · 10/02/2018 15:54

😁

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 18:13

Chopard Casmir tonight. Its hitting the spot.

thecatfromjapan · 10/02/2018 19:52

Just de-lurking to tell SW London perfume-lovers that I visited Bentalls in Kingston today and they have reduced a whole load of stock to HALF PRICE!! I spotted: lots of Annick Goutal, Creed Virgin Island Water, lots of Miller Harris (including Rouge en Noir and L'Air de Rien) and lots and lots of other perfumes. And some Annick Goutal candles, too - but I think they were mainly Christmas ones.

I just had to share this with you all!! I was very excited. Grin

Oh, and in Central London, there is now an Atelier Cologne concession in ... argh! I think I've actually forgotten which of the Dept Stores it was! ... John Lewis, I think. they have soaps, hand creams and little bottles of Vanille Insensee at 2 for £8.

Right. Back to lurking and reading I go. Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 10/02/2018 21:49

Feeling quite the dullard with Avignon on one wrist and Cardinal on the other. They are astonishingly similar. I think Avignon has the edge on longevity, but Cardinal has more soft and scattered elements, and might JUST edge it out, which is important given the difference in price.

OCSockOrphanage · 10/02/2018 21:52

Too far from Kingston sadly, and have recently been to my top frock shop's attic sale, where everything unsold from three years or so is marked down to near cost. So I have replaced cream jeans ahead of summer and bought a lovely taffeta cocktail dress.

MrsPestilence · 10/02/2018 22:21

A quick rerun of Avery E as SotD. The iris and woods are growing on me. However, I already have Pharrell Williams' Girl with iris and violet and wood (this satisfied my violet craving SoF). Also Iris Nazarena with yet more iris and woods. It has been a bit of an iris week.

Kittens you are going to have great fun building your own perfume, what ideas do you have so far?

Hi Cat, bye Cat, do drop in anytime, always glad to see you. Bentalls is part of the Fenwick group so there may be one near others. I kind of like that they don't do on-line sales.

Oooo MrsR Fantasy Intimate the 50ml is cheaper than the 30ml!

Good luck with the house Count, very exciting but totally knackering IIRC

Welcome back MrsG's nose. The repulsed at coffee had me worried. DH had to drink it in the garden when I was pregnant.

Went to Selfridges at Bullring for my Gankin facial massage and face is now a little bruised, but perkier. Makeover wasn’t the greatest though. But I visited the Chanel Exclusifs to have a sniff.
I didn’t really enjoy the coromandel or Sycamor, but fell in love with Misia! Lovely soft orris, rose and violet . It’s like a snuggly blanket and also very edible without being pink. IFYKWIM? They have a little alcove where you can sit with someone and go through all the scents on little porcelain sticks. Very naice. And a little scary as Amex have put up my credit limit so I had to run away.
SOTD this morning was CdG Black Pepper with lots of pepper and Tonka. This is going on my birthday wish list. Definitely FB status.

JanetStWalker · 10/02/2018 22:48

Still in love with Camel. I'm crap at describing notes but if I say it's somewhere between 80s Coco and SL's Arabie, does that help at all? Probably not. Grin

The civet (synthetic) gives it a womanly vintage backbone, that's missing from a lot of modern perfume - it's that plus the spice that's giving it the original Coco vibe. It's much sexier than I expected.

Saying that though, there's nothing at all skanky about it, it's no Salome and there's no horrid SL cumin type spice kitchen. Everything is beautifully blended, rich and resinous, warm and woody.

I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a FB but the exchange rate is telling me I can buy a bottle for £115 incl shipping. Shock

MrsGruber · 10/02/2018 23:24

Sounds fabulous Janet. I miss 80s Coco . I find Arabie just a bit too high pitched (hanker after something a bit darker and stickier).

MrsPestilence · 10/02/2018 23:37

You're selling it well Janet. Fragrantica has Camel down as similar to SL's Muscs Koublai Khan. Just noticed SL is owned by Shisseido, never noticed that before.

JanetStWalker · 10/02/2018 23:44

MrsG, think you'd like Camel, the dates make it darker and stickier than Arabie. I'm happy to send you some 80s Coco if you like.

MrsP, never tried MKK but I've heard it's really stinky! I hope should imagine Camel is rather more polite in comparison.

JanetStWalker · 10/02/2018 23:49

You know I think there is something vaguely stinky in the far drydown, a touch of oud maybe? I need to check the notes and possibly my nose, haha!

MrsPestilence · 11/02/2018 00:00

There is oud, in fact the note make it sound right up MrsG's street.

Talking SL, has anyone smelt De Profundis?

JanetStWalker · 11/02/2018 00:12

Would anyone be interested in some Francesca Bianchi samples? I have three I think. Free to a good home.

JanetStWalker · 11/02/2018 00:31

While I'm at it, anyone want a set of Heeley samples? There's a few of of them, not Cardinal though annoyingly.

MrsGruber · 11/02/2018 08:12

Hi Janet - have PM'd you.

JanetStWalker · 11/02/2018 10:59

Centrepiece today, this is Sarah's finest IMO. There's something of Feve Delicious about it, less pink and a tad earthier.

SoFancy · 11/02/2018 11:26

Morning all.

Cor blimey, did I over do it on the Casmir last night Grin. I reeked of it this morning and had to have a good scrub in the shower in preparation for trying out today's Big Sniff.

I must revisit Centrepiece, Janet. Ive still got a little sample of it, but it wasn't one of my first loves from 4160T so wrote it off initially. I might try it tonight!
