Someone’s hair drawer has the aroma of warm knickers on the chandelier - Lovely Friendly Perfume Thread 10

Welcome to the long running perfume thread. Discuss Scent of the Day, fave dupes and scents of ALL price brackets. You don’t have to spend a fortune and we will encourage you to get a sample first. That said, hiding your credit card in the freezer is recommended.

Old thread

We also have managed to get a 20% discount on a Perfume Society box and are discussing it on The Big Sniff.

Thank you SoFancy my 4160 samples are here Grin I’ve popped yours in post (and also some for Teta) first class but I missed the postman I’m afraid so you’ll get them Monday or Tuesday.

I’m currently in Goodbye Piccadilly which is lovely on opening- lots of violets and iris but there is a strange food smell on my skin...not on the card, i think it might be the Lavendar. Will be interesting to see how it develops - enjoying it so far!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 09/02/2018 18:14

Oooh, very excited to even be considered as a potential thread title inspiration!

Sotd AC Immortelle Blanche (or something) Nicest AC yet, after Bergamot Soleil, as it didn't turn into a PM with the late addition of cherry or peach or something sweet at the end. Reminded me of Allure somehow. Can still smell it now, 8 hours later, very odd for AC!

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 09/02/2018 19:33

Evening! SotD was Imaginary Authors Violet Disguise. Easily my favourite of the sample set so far. Proper Parma violets with a small trace of plum and the winning finish of iris. Lovely.

Apparently Misia is 70s lipstick violet. I've never smelt that so unable to make the connection!

CountFosco · 09/02/2018 20:09

House update: doer upper needs tons of work (electrics ancient, heating bizarre and emersion boiler 10 years old plus complete refurb required) but fab location (in catchment but also in a quiet cul de sac on a hill with great views) and amazing garden with lots of mature trees and a brick 'workshop' and has the room that with a few wall moves (!) the downstairs will work. Not as grand as the gorgeous house we saw last week but OK and the location swings it. So I think we'll be putting in an offer on Monday. Gulp.

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/02/2018 20:46

Exciting times, count. I so admire people that can do-up, I am far too impatient.

SOTD was Chanel 19, but am now in pyjamas and JM Wood Sage. Feeling slightly less fed up since it’s Friday. No half-term here either.

CountFosco · 09/02/2018 20:51

Oh I'm soft, it will be a case of live in rented accomodation while the builders move it. Not much to admire, we're just lucky to have savings. I think those people who live in a caravan while they DIY are ever so completely crazy.

MrsGruber · 09/02/2018 22:31

Took a tentative snff of Avery E tonight . My sense of smell is just about back in working order , although, I still have a bad chest so am being ultra restrained.

House sounds promising Count - a good spot and a lovely garden sound hard to beat.

BluebellGal · 09/02/2018 22:37

Good luck with the offer Count Phil and Kirsty always say it’s a good move to buy the house in the worst condition on the best street!

CountFosco · 10/02/2018 08:30

It's certainly that! Stayed up far too late last night working out costs and layouts. Think we might not get much of a summer holiday this year!

explodingkittens · 10/02/2018 12:37

Yaaaaayyyyy it's the weekend!

Also very excitingly, I've just booked my Experimental Perfume Club Apprentice Workshop for the end of April. I get 12mls of my unique concoction and they'll remake the formula any time (for a price, obvs). Need to start thinking about what I want to put in there!

Agree that the winter is starting feel relentless. Was walking home last night from the station thinking 'I feel as if I don't go anywhere in the light anymore'. The house is always farking freezing as well which doesn't help. Longing for light and warmth rather than cold winds and greyness. House sounds great @Count - good luck for Monday and the offer.

Am supposed to be out tonight, seeing Amadeus at the National Theatre. Apparently it's fabulous but I really just want to curl up under my electric blanket and snooze...

Very tempted by the 4160s SOTW - does anyone have it and can give me the low-down?

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 10/02/2018 12:37

Reading a rocket book with DS this morning - it claimed space changes the smell of things and a perfume was made from roses which had been on the moon and whose scent had changed. Interesting! (Fosco - true? Possible?)

Nipped into Superdrug today and spotted "Layering Lab" body mists- some body sprays to wear on their own or later. At 1.99 a pop I picked up "oriental" to give a go...

SotD already Mitsouko though.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 10/02/2018 12:39

Ooh kittens that sounds fab!! Any ideas what smells you might aim for yet?

explodingkittens · 10/02/2018 12:54

I don't know really, @cheap - I'm trying to think of the notes I really love, and I'm coming up with incense, rose, violet, leather, smoke ...I really like earthy/skanky/boozy notes as well.

I've been watching The Crown recently and am quite fond of the portrayal of poor old Margaret. So maybe a cigarettes and champagne topnote with a polite rose/violet heart and some earthy leather, smoky basenotes would be good Grin

BluebellGal · 10/02/2018 13:08

SOTD Connock Kukui in honour of Big Sniff tomorrow

MrsGruber · 10/02/2018 13:24

Be Careful What You Wish For: I suspect Calm may do a better description than me, but here goes:

This opens with a big orangey gourmand note, but is much richer, more mellow and fragrantly complex than The Old Heart. After the orange recedes, it gets plummier, leading into a luciously fruity trip to the woods. There's some cedar as well as oud. But its not scary oud, the woody notes are relatively light and gentle and the fruit nestles in very comfortably. Good for an autumn afternoon in a cashmere sweater.

MrsGruber · 10/02/2018 13:27

That sounds like Cabochad EK. Smile
Love the Princess Margaret idea - but you're missing the juniper?

MrsGruber · 10/02/2018 13:28

*Cabochard even Blush

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 10/02/2018 13:41

Read that as missing the jumper. Was trying to work out how you get jumper notes...

JanetStWalker · 10/02/2018 13:56

Just popping my head in to say that Camel has arrived, first impressions are...I wish I'd gone for a FB! Shock

Update later.

mrsreynolds · 10/02/2018 14:48

Hello
Half term here thank goodness!

kittens sounds amazing! How was Amadeus?
count how exciting! Good luck. We did a lot of work to our last house whilst in situ....i don't recommend it!

Sotd is sexiest scent. God I love this perfume!!

I'm thinking of trying sex goddess next 😍

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 15:03

Good luck with the offer Count. We did the same 12 years ago (do-et upper in dire need of everything doing to it). It was hellish hard but totally worth it, promise you Grin.

Perfume workshop sounds amazing, exploding. Eau de Princess Margaret sounds wonderful Grin

I've been tempted by those layering scents, Cheap. Report back, please!

Glad the samples arrived, Bluebell Grin

MrsR - Sexiest Scent is the bees knees, isnt it? Ive been promising myself at least a 9ml of it for months...

SOTD is a celebrity scent you lot would bloody hate Grin. Jessica Simpson Fancy Girl (alright, alright...the name is terrible I know). I was craving a light, carefree gourmand and this was at hand. Nectarine, vanilla, almond. Its faded after a couple of hours but it was uplifting while it lasted. Today is HORRIBLE in London. Pissing down and dark skies. DD has a friend over to play (a nice, quiet girl who likes drawing Grin), so I am taking the opportunity to watch TV and mooch about.

I'm craving violet currently, so am thinking of Insolence EDP for SOTN tonight.

BluebellGal · 10/02/2018 15:05

I’m pretty sure you’ll like sex goddess mrsreynolds

mrsreynolds · 10/02/2018 15:14

Fancy...
Beware!
I started with 2.5ml freebie of sexiest scent - then bought a 9mls and then a 30mls!!
It's addictive stuff 😍

Bluebel...I hope so...just ordered some! 😁😮

I've heard of JS fancy nights as a good dupe for coromandel but I haven't tried the original yet...

I tried a spritz of a Brittany spears one last weekend...white bottle and pink crystals on it...very nice!!
I wouldnt buy it But was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a PM

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 15:23

Fancy Nights is the only JS Fancy flanker I haven't tried, MrsR, but its the one that gets the most love from proper, grown-up perfumistas on Fragrantica.

I prefer the regional Fancy, which is a super-Gourmand nutty caramel-apple tart Grin

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 15:23
