Anti Boden thread!

TeeCee · 19/04/2007 12:32

Think it might just be me, myself and Irene on this thread cos I get the feeling every other mumsnetter lives her life according to Boden!

Boden never really bothered me before, other than just thinking it was overpriced and for 'nice girls', but since I've realised the obsession with all things Boden on Mumsnet I now can't stand the stuff and it I can feel myself being irritated by the whole look of it!!!! I would never let a piece through my front door!

Boden Schmoden!

well how mebarrassing if dp rocked up like that and the guy in the background was there too..you'd have to send dp to order a long weight at the chandlers urgently

Pinkchampagne · 19/04/2007 16:37

I'm liking the guy in the background too!

Have never bought any Boden for myself. It always looks a bit twee & yummy mummy.
I have bought a few bits for the boys though, but only in the sale!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/04/2007 16:37

LOL Zippi

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 16:39

The guy in the background is very nice indeed. My DH refuses to wear anyting with pink in it, so a lot of Boden is out.

zippitippitoes · 19/04/2007 16:39

the office creep bet she can't get away fast enough

expatinscotland · 19/04/2007 16:40

Boden is a rip-off.

It's a Bree van de Kamp wannabe for Britain.

Yawn.

It's boring and dull.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/04/2007 16:40

That bloke's outfirt is sooooooooo lush

You'd get smacked for wearing that in Newport

electra · 19/04/2007 16:41

We used to live over the rd from a bloke who wore suits like this to work. He use to wear other odd stuff too, like bright orange trainers. DH described him as a cross between Hugh Grant and Ali G, but I digress....

moondog · 19/04/2007 16:44

lol at this thread.
I wear lots of Boden because

  1. I hate shopping
  2. I like to look presntable but have a very 'unadorned' style
  3. Stuff lasts for ever
  4. Customer service is good
Gobbledigook · 19/04/2007 16:44

Fancy getting worked up over a shop!

I find the boys clothes very good quality, hard wearing and they are the only clothes that you can really hand down.

Womens - hmm, a lot of it is too twee or a bit frumpy but I've got the odd thing.

Lots of people link to Topshop on style threads and I think it's a pile of cheap tatt but I can't get worked up enough about it to start a thread.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 19/04/2007 16:45

(GDG I son't think anyone's worked up, more taking the proverbial truth be known )

zippitippitoes · 19/04/2007 16:45

it just confirms what we all know..if you look at all as though you might get sand kicked in your face boden will make it worse

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 16:45

But moondog, are you a teacher?

moondog · 19/04/2007 16:47

speech and lang therapist but wear suits to work

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 16:47

In this country there are Boden beaches (to be found in Cornwall and else where) and non Boden beaches (Blackpool, Skegness etc.)As long as we all stick to our own type of beach the world will be a safer place.

zippitippitoes · 19/04/2007 16:49

I guess that if men wear boden they are the kind of men who don't ever buy their own clothes they just find them on the bed a few times a year

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 16:51

Well that would be my husband, but he refuses to let me buy him any Boden what so ever.

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 16:54

I've always wanted a Boden type of DH. He'd drink lots of red wine, but atlest he'd be able to aford great holidays and private school.

bossykate · 19/04/2007 16:57

pmsl zippi!

suspect you are right!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/04/2007 17:13

DH has a white linen Boden shirt. It is gorgeous and is better quality than his expensive London ones. But everything else seems to be more 'shoddily made' every year, as my aunt would have it.

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 17:17

I was thinking of ordering a towling overhead for the beach, but it looks really thin in the catlogue. Has anyone seen one in real life?

KnayedFrot · 19/04/2007 17:21

Boden cropped jeans did not fit me so not ordering trousers from them. Have never fancied any of the tops, and the skirst are dire.

They look OK on their size 8 models but not many of their target market are that size, I don;t suppose.

Their things look very distinctive so if you have looked at the catalogue you can immediately identify them - which makes it seem like some sort of uniform.

If I saw something i liked in there i might buy but nothing much takes my fancy.

Mind you, I wear smock tops, so what do i know

PestoMonster · 19/04/2007 17:32

chocolate face, if you mean the children's towelling beach dresses or towelling hoodies, we have got those. They are fantastic! Really thick, warm & cosy and we use ours all the time at the beach. My dds can even take their wet swimmers off at the end of the day and wear them as dresses. Really, really good. I can't recommend highly enough.

And no, I am not MrsJohnnieBoden

ViscountessPetitLapin · 19/04/2007 17:48

ViscountPL is a Boden man through and through. He even suggested going to the shop (very dangeeous; very expensive trip! )

Also DS charges around in Boden pullons, they are fab!
