Anti Boden thread!

TeeCee · 19/04/2007 12:32

Think it might just be me, myself and Irene on this thread cos I get the feeling every other mumsnetter lives her life according to Boden!

Boden never really bothered me before, other than just thinking it was overpriced and for 'nice girls', but since I've realised the obsession with all things Boden on Mumsnet I now can't stand the stuff and it I can feel myself being irritated by the whole look of it!!!! I would never let a piece through my front door!

Boden Schmoden!

A man who suggests going to the Boden shop? Oh where did you find such a treasure?

zippitippitoes · 19/04/2007 17:52

yachting holiday, saab convertible, cottage in yorkshire at new year, surprise weekend in Barcelona sort of boden hubby?

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 17:54

Yes..... I want one of those. It's not the Boden clothes I want, it's the Boden lifestyle.

ViscountessPetitLapin · 19/04/2007 17:57

Umm, very old Land Rover, cottage in Devon (borrowed), surprise dinners in London and well, yes he does spend quite a lot of time on boats

MrsJohnnieBoden · 19/04/2007 17:57

I just want you all to know the best things in life are free.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/04/2007 18:31

Very old Landrover (check), large Sussex house, lovely paddocks full of childrens' ponies, chickens wandering into the house, glamorous friends (especially on here). But no private surfing beach

ViscountessPetitLapin · 19/04/2007 18:46

Duchess, am of your house, sounds lovely

Chocolateface · 19/04/2007 18:53

Me too, except the chickens in the house.

Blondilocks · 19/04/2007 19:02

I'd never even heard of Boden before Mumsnet!

Haven't bought anything from there.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 19/04/2007 20:00

It all seems very middle aged in style. Sorry.

ja9 · 19/04/2007 20:09

me too blondilocks...never seen nor heard of the place. Imagine its like a posher Next, though...

SouthEastLondonMummy · 19/04/2007 20:20

I have a Boden coat and some Boden boots and sometimes I wear them at the same time.

I can't afford their stuff often but I think its good quality and means you can look presentable at the same time as milling around with the kids.

Would love to dress my DDs in their clothes, but they're expensive, and there are crazy-type bidding wars on ebay.

Haven't read all the posts, but get the feeling I'm largely on my own here.

SouthEastLondonMummy · 19/04/2007 20:22

Plus, I must admit to finding the blurbs in the catalogue amusing, and I WANT that lifestyle.

Am I going to have to change my nickname after this?

fizzbuzz · 19/04/2007 20:22

Quality is crap crap crap!

Yonks ago used to be a designer, and the fabric they use for some of their shirts is about the cheapest crappest quality available. Have wrote and told them so!

Also, some garments arrive stinking of dye and prints, and again, this means crappest cheapest quality available, AND all woolly stuff is really prickly and itchy, which means cheap again.

Used to like it a few years ago, but don't any more.......

I believe it tries to be in same market as Hobbs and Jigsaw, both of which are infintely superior.

If I wanted a shirt made out of crap cheap cotton sheeting with nil threadcount then I could just use curtain linig!

fizzbuzz · 19/04/2007 20:23

Lining

luciemule · 19/04/2007 20:24

Have to say even though I've suggested Boden on some threads, I do think they're a complete rip off, unless stuff is in the sale, and the tops I've bought have gone knotty after 2 washes and have shrunk too. The kids stuff is nice but I begrudge paying those prices fro something that generally only lasts a season. The kid's
t-shirts make good b'day pressies for nephews and nieces though.

ArcticRoll · 19/04/2007 20:25

Went to a beach near Salcombe last summer.
Virtually every child was wearing those toweling dresses.(including my dd
All the fathers were building sandcastle and moats in very Alpha male way and braying at young Horatio.
My dc wear Boden but sometimes I worry that people will think I share the same political views as Johnnie.

Arctic Roll, which beach exactly, I'm a real wanabe, and would like to hang out in an area heavy with Boden. The funny thing is, everyone I know who dresses their children in Boden are real lefties. Right wing = Next, Left wing = Boden?
I tink I should have changed my name for this post.

ArcticRoll · 19/04/2007 20:48

chocolateface-it was the beach opposite Salcombe harbour, can't remember the name. We caught a small ferry across from the harbour.
It was full of Boden types with their own boats, very Swallow and Amazons.
Dd asked 'why don't WE have our own boat mummy?'
My children have got poncey names and wore Bodened up so we didn't stand out too much...I was wishing my ds was wearing his Wayne Rooney top and I wanted to shout 'Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, out, out, out'.

MrsDanvers · 19/04/2007 21:36

Have never seen anyone wearing Boden looking remotely like any of the models. Most people look quite frumpy in it. Also, think that it looks a lot cheaper and more mass produced in RL than it does in the catalogue.

kittypants · 19/04/2007 21:38

never seen the adult stuff.brought couple of bits of childrens stuff on ebay but only because i liked those clothes not because of label.too expensive!

krabbiepatty · 19/04/2007 21:39

Silk shirts tear around the buttons; quality of women's clothes is terrible. Boys' stuff ok.
