WideWebWitch · 17/04/2007 19:57

Sorry everyone, I have been v busy drooling over property porn and it's taken priority over mumsnet so here we are, belated week 3, sorry for not starting it earlier.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

BTW WWW did you get an email from me re work stuff?

feetheart · 19/04/2007 11:16

Can I join too?

I need a bit of a kick to get me going. I'm 44 with a 4 yr old and a 17 mth old and feel its about time I had a bit of a revamp as I know I am the oldest Mum at the pre-school gates but I'm damned if I'm going to look or act it This summer will be the first for a while that I haven't been either pg or bf so there really are no excuses left!
As for the rules:
Suncream - been doing it since I started lurking a while ago
Booze - no problem as rarely drink any more (pg, bf and a close encounter with alcoholism in the family has had quite as effect!)
Walking - not bad, walk to and from pre-school 3 out of 4 days and are out and about most other days.
Water - needs a lot of work. Have never drunk much as don't like tea and coffee but trying to up intake now
Body cream - getting back to doing it daily
Handcream - have the driest skin in history so handcream used many times a day.
Bedtime - not bad but could be better, tend to get caught up on here a bit too often!
Eating - LOVE my food, both cooking and eating it, and up till now have never had to worry about my weight. However the last 1/2 st post baby/post bf weight hasn't miraculously dropped off all by itself so I really need to be a little more disciplined
Happiness - not bad but need to work hard at getting some time for myself, starting with bra measuring/decent underwear buying as finished bf 3 mths ago and am still in a selection of dodgily fitted dingy rags!!!

There, do I qualify???

Marina · 19/04/2007 11:56

Just make sure you apply the bodycream and eat the carrot salad BP, and not vice versa.
Had restrained evening although I did find myself dwelling on that stonking drink delivery . Desperate Housewives is not the same without a glass of sauvignon blanc!Seafood salad with plenty of spinach and watercress, low fat yog, lots of water and redbush tea.
Managed usual cream/breakfast/20 min walk this morning and am chugging the water as I rip the cellophane off a huge delivery of DVDs, that's got to be burning a few cals
I am determined to stick it out this time WWW, am inspired by batters and the red skirt . That is fab!
Feetheart, I am an oldster at the school gates too - we can do it!

winnie · 19/04/2007 12:24

Batters, good for you

As I am sat here at my desk munching on carrot and cucumber sticks I am feeling virtuous. It is all going really well (infact I can tick all of the boxes on the boot camp list atm) and I am feeling really, really good

(Plus, yesterday Dd got accepted for a college place to start again in Sept and I am so delighted as we all finally seem to be beginning to see the woods for the trees )

winnie · 19/04/2007 12:26

I am looking forward to a glass of wine tomorrow evening though

Yes but what do you do when your partner helpfully chills it and pours you a glass at dinner, eh?

winnie · 19/04/2007 12:56

Batters, well done on the walking & LOL at dd's comments about the skirt

Marina · 19/04/2007 12:58

And ace news about your dd's college place Winnie Really pleased for you all.
There have been some hard paths walked on here in the past six years haven't there

winnie · 19/04/2007 13:10

Six years Marina

winnie · 19/04/2007 13:15

And yes some very hard paths have been travelled in that time by many on here but I am so thankful for MN. It has been a lifeline for me more than once

suzywong · 19/04/2007 13:17

SimplySparkling · 19/04/2007 13:30

Hello all. I'm doing okay, thanks to this thread.

As for the rules:
Suncream - not good at this but spend little time outside. Will put it on before walking the dog.
Booze - Still managing to not drink at all in the week.
Walking - Managing this most days.
Water - Not too bad. Could do with a bit more.
Body cream - I remember sometimes. Am trying.
Handcream - Now my hands aren't cracking, I am forgetting most nights but will try harder.
Bedtime - Around 11pm last night so not too bad.
Eating - I'm doing pretty well but that's normal for me. I'm eating a small handful of brazil nuts when I have an attack of the munchies.
Happiness - not bad. I am trying to make some time for myself. Must make a hair appointment. It's too long and unmanageable. Plus it needs colouring.

Thanks again for this thread.

SimplySparkling · 19/04/2007 13:31

Sorry, forgot to say hi to Dingle. You've made cards for me when I had a different name and they were all brill!

Iota · 19/04/2007 18:54

This week is not turning out as hardline 'boot camp' as I planned, but not doing too badly.

I am seriously tempted to downa cool glass of wine tonight though. Have been doing clothes shopping for the boys and it was just too much like hard work - I must have burned a few calories though, trawling through town.

Congratulations to Lizzer , come back soon

WideWebWitch · 19/04/2007 19:46

So enid, did you have a glass of wine? Are the baby plants planted? The boursin and lime pickle sounds lovely but are you def not pg again?

Wow bakedpotato, did you succumb? I have cold wine in the fridge but am not drinking tonight

Dingle, understand about the time. Well, I think you should try going somewhere amazing once and see if how much better it makes you feel is worth the time/effort equation. Shimmery body lotion, now, I bought a Palmers cocoa butter formula shimmer one and the texture was fine but it was vile otherwise: great layers of it peeled off on tights (I know you're not supposed to have on under tights but was using it as body lotion), peeled off my skin even not under tights, horrid stuff. So, anyway, don't get that.

Batters, well done on the skirt! How does it feel to not wear black? I have a black skirt, top, tights and shoes on today. Greek widow stylee indeed. And I'm not remotely bored by all that you guys have eaten, drunk and walked!

Tortoisehell, we'll skim over your post...

Clary, well done on wine. Hmm, food. Well, can you just eat food that's good for you in the afternoons? What do you eat? Apples and grapes or cakes and biscuits?

MI, that sounds lovely, esp someone else pouring it bit. Yes, did get email, of course happy to talk to you, am around! Email whatever you want to know!

Feetheart, of course you can join, welcome! OK, so your task, if you choose to accept it, is to go and get a proper bra fitted asap Well done on the other stuff.

Marina, Desp Housewives SO needs a glass or two of something, doesn't it? Glad you are feeling motivated, sounds like good food, well done

Winnie, fab about dd and I'm glad you're feeling good, marvellous stuff.

God, suzywong, and eww at hardcore yoga and talk of wooden blocks.

Six years, wow, although I have only been here for 5 of them...oh no I haven't just counted, it IS 6, since 2001

Simplysparklng, go on, book a haircut, you'll feel so much better for it. All the other stuff is great, well done.

Iota, clothes shopping for boys is hell I think, so you probably deserve that wine.

bakedpotato, so, did you drink it? hmm, hmm? CONFESS!

WideWebWitch · 19/04/2007 19:50

Me

Granola
strawberries
blueberries
2 apples
170 cal roll with red fat hummus
and then went out for lunch and had starter portion of bbq chicken wings, no idea how bad that would have been
2 sausages and roasted veg this evening
no walking as went out for lunch + dh gone out tonight so can't but I did manage a 20 min stroppy stomp around a few blocks last night before coming home and going to bed at EIGHT THIRTY with the rest of my family, we were ALL asleep by then I reckon. Kids understandably, dh and I just knackered. So anyway, I feel ok today but not amazing, so I think this throat thing is still bothering me. I've started taking the antibiotics I didn't complete a couple of weeks ago so they'll probably help, I shouldn't have given up after 2 days but I thought it was better (I know, shouldn't do that with anti biotics)
So, no booze last night
or tonight despite it being the end of my week

My skin looks better, it has to be said

I will find you all a badge later, you've been so good...

Have been mainly very good - still no bread or pasta, lots of water, body cream and sunscreen daily. Quite a lot of walking though just about anything more energetic puts my neck out leading to hideous headaches.
On the downside, haven't been too good at getting to bed early and had to have a glass of wine tonight, as had been forced to open the bottle to put it in the asparagus risotto, and am simply too weak to resist. But I have kept off the rest of the week.

I so agree with everyone who's suggesting small steps to feeling better - just a semi permanent colour on the hair maybe, or a brighter coloured top than usual. Nothing too drastic but even tiny things can make a big difference. I've bought some tooth whitening stuff, as with all the sunscreen I won't be going my usual shade of leather, and I think whiter teeth might make me look a bit brighter.

Very depressingly though, none of this good behaviour seems to be having the slightest effect on my enormous waistline. Everything else seems marginally less bloated and hideous, but not that.

WideWebWitch · 19/04/2007 20:23

OK, here's a badge for anyone who HASN'T been good

OP posts:
yoyo · 19/04/2007 20:34

Am feeling very tired this evening. Am going to have a bath with some smellies and then an early night.
Have been very good with the "rules" today and am having my hair cut tomorrow so will hopefully be rather more cheerful.
Saw a few nice things in Monsoon today and may treat myself at the weekend. Have not really worn green before so will be a shock IF it looks okay.
