Sorry everyone, I have been v busy drooling over property porn and it's taken priority over mumsnet so here we are, belated week 3, sorry for not starting it earlier.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

bakedpotato · 18/04/2007 10:15

Hello can I join?
Sunscream: yes
Booze: have been cutting down for last week, am doing 3 nights off then allowing myself one glass of wine. Any more extreme than that and I'll get the DTs.
Walking: yes. Ish.
Water: need to work on this one.
Body cream: I don't like it.
Handcream: fine.
Bedtime: fine
Eating: am attempting to up my veg intake and cut down on carbohydrates. I seem to do OK 3 days out of 4, then have a relapse (pasta bake last night bcs mushrooms/cream about to go off -- and oh dear, there's some left over for tonight. However I am having N Slater's carrot/seed salad with hot citrus dressing for lunch).

Lizzer · 18/04/2007 10:43

Hi there, was wondering where you all were hiding this week

So for those who wondered where I went, it went something like this....my internet went down then I was on holiday, then I came back and then... I'm pg! Don't think I won't be taking these rules with me though (and bed by 8 is more likely for me!) I was applying my cream and sunscreen yesterday thinking about the rules and if any time were a good time to use them, now would be it!

I'll bow out of posting here though as the sickness is forcing me to eat plain crackers and sweet tea (decaf of course!)

good luck to you all in your regression, and do think of me in my fat waddly - ness from time to time!

Dingle · 18/04/2007 11:09

I don't often have any time to browse through MN-ATM it's more of a mad dash in, perhaps ask a few questions about SN or education....then dash out to work on DD's statementing. BUT this caught my eye and I am in desperate need to get some of "an identity" back and revamp my life.

here I am, 41, sitting here in jeans, cream top, with a longline black cardi, mumsy comfy shoes for the school run. Make up on but my fluffy hair pulled back into its usual style and in desperate need of colouring the increasing grey!!!!
Not overweight, but would love to tone and just feel happier about myself.

Come on then ladies, where do I start, being mum, in particualr a mum of a child with Down Syndrome, has just completely washed away any confidence I ever had and I cannot carry on like it. HELP!!!!

Where on earth do I start?

motherinferior · 18/04/2007 11:55

What has happened to my stomach???? I mean I know I'm weighing a bit more than I like but only a few pounds, dammit, and I'm unable to zip up my jeans. Seriously.

And that's after two days of, ooh, virtue: no booze, lots of water, fruit and veg, low fat food (well, I don't know what DP put in last night's chicken, of course). Am about to eat organic baked beans on organic toast, made palatable by large spoonful of harissa sauce. But I'm not going swimming tonight (I did go on Monday), I'm going to a 40th birthday do so may consume a glass or two.

Pilates starts tomorrow. I may be completely spherical by then.

motherinferior · 18/04/2007 11:56

Oh, and Dingle, can I suggest the deep frivolity of getting your lashes tinted? Had mine redone yesterday. Also re-dyed my hair. Look faintly more presentable, at least from the neck up.

motherinferior · 18/04/2007 11:57

AND - sorry, Lizzer, didn't read your post properly - congratulations!

Good day today so far:
Breakfast -Special K and skimmed milk
20 min walk to office from train
Lunch of fruit and rice cakes
Sun, body and hand cream all in correct locations
15 min walk at lunchtime
About to crack open litre of water
And am very happy as work is going well at present. Miss the DCs though
You can't say it often enough - fab news Lizzer, stay well and pork out for us XXX

WideWebWitch · 18/04/2007 19:14

Dingle, welcome. Can you afford a proper haircut? I ask not to be patronising btw! But because there might be a reason you haven't had it done for a while. If you can afford it wait to see someone locally who ahs fantastic hair and ask them where they have it done. And who does it. And then go and make an appt with the same person. It will be money well spent, really. Have colour too, I read recently that frizzy hair adds at LEAST 5 years to your real age and it made me straighten my hair this morning rather than go to work with clean but blowy about hair.

Well done all you no boozers, mt, enid, sophable, batters, moi, fantastic. I am really craving a glass of wine right now as dh is being feeble and pathetic and poor me I had a bad day and I just want to throttle him. Have pmt. Told him to speak to me in a normal voice, oops. (and at all your 10stone women, gah!)

Lizzer, congratulations!

Bakedpotato, welcome too Loads of us are good for 4 days and shite for 3 but I reckion it's better than shite for 7 days, non?

Not bad
granola
walnuts, brazils, pine nuts
2 apples
hummus, a yellow pepper and cucumber for lunch
2 Americanos, black, no sugar
strawberries
blueberries
2 veg samosas, oops, they were left ovr childrens ones
and whingey dh is cooking a chicken/green pepper pitta thing

May give in and have wine and apologise to him. No exercise, meetings over lunch. No sunscreen. But will have an early night.

Sheesh. Majestic delivery man just rang doorbell and now there's 4 cases of wine, 1 crate of Prosecco and industrial quantities of Hogarten in the kitchen.
DH had arranged this unbeknownst to me
What am I to do ffs?

bundle · 18/04/2007 19:46

bakedpotato, that sounds like an emergency...I'm on my way

Lizzer · 18/04/2007 20:07

I'll get off this thread for good now but just a quick thanks for all your congrats...bye for now and good luck for the summer, you'll be the sexiest women in the country I'm sure

Enid · 18/04/2007 20:12

I so want a glass of wine

kids will NOT go to sleep

have had crappy day

very menstrual indeed

had steamed veg and rice for lunch then blew it by gorging on oatcakes spread with boursin and lime pickle

house is a tip, dh away, loads of lickle wickle baby plants outside looking reproachful (they need planting)

[glowers]

Enid · 18/04/2007 20:12

meant to say!

congrats Lizzer!

Dingle · 18/04/2007 20:19

LOL well www, I suppose if we cut back on the take aways and the wine.....

I think it's mainly a time factor, I spend so much time on the DC, especially DD, it's just easy to get out of the shower, scrunch up my natural frizz a bit and then scurf it back when it's dry- as opposed to blow drying it and straightening. The ongoing costs are a factor too, I usually end up colouring it myself...eventually.

Will start tomorrow:

more water
no booze during week
get out my pedometer and try for 10,000 steps a day
get my hair sorted!!!
hand cream (vital now my dishwasher has packed up!)
body lotion daily- might try a summery glow type one if I can find one that doesn't smell
aim to go bed at 10.30pm

ooo,,,that's enough for now, I am tired just thinking about it....

CONGRATS Lizzer - what fantastic lovely news.

Clary · 18/04/2007 22:54

doing sooo well on wine (none), water (lots) cream on body and hands (twice+ a day) and exercise (cycled to work and back today.

But but but the food thing is baaaaaad.

Just eat too much piggery in the pm. What do you all do about this? I just love food! (sigh)

Will try harder tomorrow.

Oh also bedtime is tricky. Can I try for 11.30? That would be early for me....

Oh and Lizzer - congrats! Are you the same Lizzer from many moons ago??????

motherinferior · 19/04/2007 09:39

I spent yesterday evening being poured prosecco by an attentive and gorgeous young man...OK, it was his job, and I wasn?t the only person he was pouring it for, but there are worse ways to spend a Wednesday evening. Friend's 40th. Needless to say I didn?t stop at one glass but I did get home by a vaguely respectable hour (pah). And my jeans fit rather better today, although admittedly also having weighed myself perhaps an evening of prosecco (and, OK, delicious nibbly things) might not be the best tactic for fitting into them perfectly.

bakedpotato · 19/04/2007 10:15

I am too downcast about DH's booze delivery, and my response to it, to put anything down here.
Apart from: have applied body cream, despite aversion to it, and will be having N Slater's carrot salad for lunch again.
