Sorry everyone, I have been v busy drooling over property porn and it's taken priority over mumsnet so here we are, belated week 3, sorry for not starting it earlier.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Right, well I was in bed by 10pm and up at 6.30am, had my granola and then at 7.25am was out for a walk. Only a normal paced walk but I did at least half an hour around the river, it was beautiful, wood pidgeons cooing, weeping willows wafting, gorgeous.

I feel overcast is better shopping weather though batters - have a fab day out
wine o'clock chez nous is when the Ocado man turns up at 6pm with hopefully two bottles of sauvignon blanc (and other fripperies like milk, loo roll, bread etc). I'll try not to knock him flying.
I've done really quite well this week in terms of eating and drinking - small slice of quiche, new potatoes, green beans for dinner yesterday, fruit lunch, no snacking. Must try and boost exercise levels now.
Everyone is doing ever so well on this thread, I am reading with interest and it does help! Thanks www

SimplySparkling · 20/04/2007 10:05

Thanks www for your post. I have booked the colour and cut for next Fri. I'll be mithering between now and then, trying to decide whether to go for a bob (which the hairdresser said last time she didn't want to do on me again as we'd done it before and I was fancying a change, but I think I'd like to try a variation, so I think I'll do my homework on different bob styles to ask her) or to go for it pretty short again. It is tidier short but it doesn't make me feel feminine. There. That answers it. Not short if poss.

  • Sunscreen at all times. ~ I did this yesterday, though it was suncream and felt horribly and greasy. Recommendations for sunscreen worn under makeup please anyone.
  • No or little booze ~done
  • Walking ~ done
  • Lots of water ~ getting better
  • Apply body cream as often as possible ~ done this morning
  • Use hand cream ~ did this last night
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if poss ~ around 11.30pm last night which wasn't too bad as dh had to tell me his news about career development which was very important. I may need to give up work to make up for him being around so much less. Or have an au pair. I don't know yet. It'll mean he earns more - far more than my wage brings in. It's a no brainer really and I can always do voluntary work for a few hours a week or something from home if I want. Sorry. Thinking aloud.
  • Eat healthily ~ a rubbishy day yesterday. Bacon bap for lunch followed by yogurt and carton soup and naan bread for tea. I did make home made fruit salad for pudding.
  • Be happy ~ not bad!

I pity Marina's Ocado delivery man! I'm sure you're able to contain your excitment until he puts the bags down and leaves, really!

Have just remembered that a friend is going swimming this afternoon. I don't know if I can fit in in as the kids and dh have something after school and work today. I'll see.

I think of this thread about half a dozen times daily and it really does help. Thanks all.

motherinferior · 20/04/2007 10:40

My pilates started last night again (although I do note in shop windows, despondently, that I'll have to do about a million situps a day ever to lose that slight - ha! - roundedness to the upper torso so prevalent in the post-parturitive lady). I have resumed a path of tedious virtue, although a glass of wine may perchance pass my lips tonight, you never know.

I do have to - have to - make another lemon drizzle cake today as tomorrow am being visited by Very Old Friend who has acquired bloke (after a boggling nine years, I think, of celibacy - can you imagine) and is now pregnant. At 42. It's lovely. Although I do feel the urge to expose various bits of my body and point out that one day soon, my dear, all this will be yours...

Dingle · 20/04/2007 10:44

Simplysparkling said "Sorry, forgot to say hi to Dingle. You've made cards for me when I had a different name and they were all brill! " ooooo...not sure who you are!! but glad you liked them!

Thank you for this thread, very inspirational. It's great to read how well youa re all doing!

As for me not got off to a very good start! Had a large glass of wine (only a little) topped with soda water, last night!

Can't find me pedometer, but I am doing the school run twice a day now the children are back to school- it the school holidays I really struggle.

I have been applying body lotion daily- but not handcream, will find that which has been lurking at the bottom of a drawer and start using it!

Aiming for earlier nights, went to bed at 11.30 on Wedsnesday, which was a bit earlier than usual, but was a very good girl last night- 10.30...and slept like a log. ( not sure if it was the glass of warm, skimmed milk, or the fact that I have put all the LEA papers away for a while!)

Decided to get my hair chopped and coloured, and continue to treat myself to return visits. If I shower and wash my hair at night rather than in the mornig, that should give me the time I need to straighten it- if not I'll wear a hat!!!

Talking of hairstyles then- can anyone please link those online sites to help me choose?

Thanks again everyone!! Feel like a new woman already!

motherinferior · 20/04/2007 10:46

Do try the lash tinting. It really does make one feel rather high-maintenancely gorgeous.

Swimming tonight, I should casually add.

Dingle · 20/04/2007 10:47

ooo...and yes, the mention of yoga!!! It's something I have kept threatening myself to do, but again- never found time. I feel I would really benefit from both the relaxion techniques and the fitness. Must get out the DVD I have lurking too!!

Dingle · 20/04/2007 10:49

Not sure about the lash tinting MI, it has never had much impact on me in the long, distant past. LOL- I used to play guinea pig a lot when I was doing my NVQ in Beauty Therapy. Loved the eyelash extensions though- I had those done for my wedding & honeymoon!

Marina · 20/04/2007 10:49

SimplySparkling, I have the sunscreen conundrum too. Boots no 7 have a good lightweight facial sunscreen, factor 25. That works OK

puddle · 20/04/2007 10:49

I've done ok this week. Had a couple of glasses of wine but have managed to stop at one (and have been under Extreme Pressure this week due to stuff going on with dp).

Eaten v healthily.
Minimal snacking
Resisted kids Easter chocolate which is still knocking around
Lots of walking

Sadly I feel rough today - I think I have caught your throat thing virtually www. Have a comically saucy husky voice. So I am sitting under soothing blanket doing a bit of work and feeling completely lacking in energy.

Definitely feeling and looking a bit thinner.

motherinferior · 20/04/2007 10:51

At the moment I am only using a moisturiser with sunscreen, but it's the mineral sort: it's made by Trevarno, and is terribly right-on and semi-organic. Lovely, it is.

Dingle · 20/04/2007 10:52

I use a moisturiser with a factor 15 SPF- is that not high enough for general everyday use? I am not a "sit in the sun" type gal!

Marina · 20/04/2007 11:03

I think Factor 15 is fine dingle. I don't think this particular product comes any lower than 25 and as my light foundation doesn't an SPF, nor does my usual moisturiser, I tend to use the Boots one at weekends.

turquoise · 20/04/2007 11:38

Simplysparkling - I've been using olay's moisturiser with a bit of self tan for everyday - it's factor 15 and hasn't turned me dayglo orange, just a bit healthier looking. It's not greasy and goes fine under foundation. May not be high enough factor though if you're outside much, which (sadly) I am not.
My top recommendation at the moment for the face though is Clarins Instant Light, it's fantastic for tightening pores and general all round dewiness - don't even need foundation at all on a good day.
My teeth whitening plan is backfiring so far - couldn't sleep a wink last night with the rubber jaws things in holding the bleach, so look infinitely more hag-like than usual today!
This thread is definitely working in general, I don't think I've put cream on my old crone hands in 42 years, apart from steroids for excema which could well explain why they look like they belong to an octogenarian.

SimplySparkling · 20/04/2007 12:54

Hi Dingle. Some of the cards weren't English ones, if that is any help!
Thanks Marina and turquoise. I've written those down in my diary so that I've got the info to hand when I'm next in town.
turquoise My hands look ancient due to poor circulation (noticeably bad from Sept to Apr each year) and ... ... I don't know what else. They are not so dry that they are cracking and bleeding atm so I think of them as (fairly) normal though they aren't. I don't like seeing them in the mirror when I'm in the hairdressers as it is so noticeable then. At least I have long slim fingers and niceish nails!

DH has hidden the wine so it doesn't hurt quite so much. I did have a glass after it arrived, www. Honestly though only a glass. And I didn't drink last night.
But it's Friday. And DH has gone off on a "walking weekend" with his beery mates. And I'm going to eat pizza with the children for supper (h/m, though) -- so all in all, it's a fairly disasterous report.
Am applying sunscreen/handcream, though.
WWW, I have to say, I think you are doing an amazing job marshalling this thread. Thanks. I do think of you when I see the Hogarten in the fridge.

Marina · 20/04/2007 13:21

Well, I got mine too batters
Ocado have just rung me and informed me our shopping will not be delivered tonight.
Am VERY angry (and thirsty).
Sorry to hear you didn't go with the tinting. Your experiences are exactly the sort of thing that would put me off having this done in the first place, what a shame

foxinsocks · 20/04/2007 15:47

oh marina, how annoying. Doesn't matter what they give you, totally buggers up your food plans doesn't it. I was seeeeething when that happened to me.

I have done very badly this week but have been away so I reckon that's allowed . Will do much better next week (will have to really, especially as fitting into my jeans is becoming a bit of a squeeze!).

Dingle · 20/04/2007 16:39

Yes simplysparkling if I have the right person- I have made quite a few for you in the past including a sports team with little quart shirts.....

Can't find that handcream anywhere- I have been making cards today, so I didn't want to put anything on in case I left finger marks- I used a rather greasy cream just as I left for the school run- really bad move- I need to hold Amelia's hand quite tight(she is a runner!) and she kept slipping away from me!!LOL.

motherinferior · 20/04/2007 16:42

Oh no, Marina.

I am going swimming tonight. I have already made the organic pasta sauce (bit of bacon - all we had left - and aubergines (baked) and tomatoes and lots of onion and garlic) to eat when I get back. And stoked up on a snack of raisins and walnuts - I know walnuts are high in fat but I'm starving, and I know that no way can I plan to swim at 6.45 if I'm hungry now. Yogurt just won't cut it at this level of hunger (I know, I've tried).
