Liberty advent calendar thread

Does anyone fancy a thread to discuss the products as we open the drawers? Quite a few people seem to have it this year from what I've seen on here.

OP posts:
chloechloe · 23/12/2017 09:39

Love the products that should have been!

Stitchosaurus · 23/12/2017 09:48

A cleansing oil this time! I like oils so I'm happy with this. Was this the product that leaked for a few people? Mine had leaked a bit but not too badly.

The red lip gloss has amazing staying power - I woke up with it still on after a hard night's drinking and dancing Grin very impressed!

Buxbaum · 23/12/2017 09:51

I had hidden this thread by the twelfth of December because the negativity was really spoiling it for me. It is my first year with Liberty and like a PP I also checked the contents on Really Ree before buying it (and promptly forgot them all). I've popped back in to see how the end of the calendar is going and it's a shame that the tone hasn't really changed.

I've really enjoyed it. Even the multiple cleansers! I can never bring myself to spend a lot on cleansers as I would rather direct my budget to things that spend longer on my face so I have actually really enjoyed trying out a range of high-end cleansers that I would never otherwise use.

Buxbaum · 23/12/2017 09:56

Cross-posted with a few positives though Smile

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 23/12/2017 12:16

My votary oil had leaked everywhere 😢

BulletFox · 23/12/2017 12:18

Oh no BuckToothed!

BulletFox · 23/12/2017 12:18

Actually I did like having so many cleanser things in it

Alwayslasttoarrive · 23/12/2017 12:28

Love the votary oil 😀. I think mine had just started to seep out - no actual full scale leak, but the bottle and the cloth packaging had an ‘oily’ film on them. Pleased to open it and stand it upright......

BluebellGal · 23/12/2017 13:01

Another cleanser? This is the fifth one Hmm I’m going to have a very clean face Grin on the plus side, I will be able to try Hiron’s double cleanse method.

The Trish McEvoy lip gloss has amazing longevity- I had to weaken it a bit with the lip balm as it was a bit ‘full on’ for me as a block of red, and it looked really pretty ‘watered down’ a bit. I think it’s quite versatile and more of a lip stain than your usual gloss. Impressed!

I’m also loving the Byredo hand cream- that might be a candidate for repurchase. And I love Day 24&25!

Re: negativity on this thread. I don’t think it was just people being picky actually. It’s an expensive calendar so expectations are quite high. The main complaints were about repeat products from previous years, too many of one type of product (cleanser) and not enough of another type (other skincare ie moisturiser). There are always going to be random products you won’t use and people are only giving their opinion when they don’t like something. All fair points I think. Personally I don’t see the point of looking up products before purchase as it’s supposed to be a surprise!

I’m very happy overall with lots of the products, I’ve enjoyed the experience (my first beauty AC), and love the box which I will keep for my DD. However I will not be purchasing the Liberty AC again as I felt the LF calendar contents were much better for less than half the price (I purchased to replenish my makeup bag in October so didn’t open it as an AC). I understand that the Liberty products are worth more money, they’re just not worth that much more to me personally I guess - horses for courses and all that! What I would really love though is a multi brand niche perfume AC (perfumista here!)

I’m logging off now, so Merry Christmas to all and may you all have beautiful skin, hair and nails throughout 2018! Grin

BluebellGal · 23/12/2017 13:01

Ooh sorry for the essay Grin

BulletFox · 23/12/2017 13:37

Bluebell Grin

I have liked it - I have to admit it's in a packing box somewhere so can't access it at present but I also loved the Trish Mcevoy lippy.

It's the first time for me as well with a beauty AC

Alwayslasttoarrive · 23/12/2017 13:44

This was my first Liberty calendar too and like BlueBellGal I wanted the contents to be a surprise. Have enjoyed the majority (especially days 24 and 25) and have a lovely haul of new products to try out. Regarding the ‘negativity’, I don’t think anyone’s remarks impacted on my enjoyment of the calendar at all. This thread is, I believe, to discuss the contents, whether you like them or not, and reasons why. Just as interesting to hear why people don’t like products as to why they do. Expressing an opinion is not the same as ‘moaning’ and I’ve enjoyed everyone’s views. My calendar is now empty, so time to leave this thread. Happy Christmas everyone......

chloechloe · 23/12/2017 14:31

That's awful that so many of the Votary oils have leaked, especially as most people want to keep the box.

I didn't manage to finish my last post as the baby woke up, but I wanted to add how impressed I was with the lipgloss. It's unlike anything I've ever come across before. Beautiful colour, finish and nicely moisturising. It feels so luxurious. I've never done a red lip before as mine are quite thin which puts me off going for it. But I think I'll go for the watered down version. Any tips? I thought I'd just line with a neutral liner, add a dab to the middle of the lip and blend out with fingers, then blot and add lip balm. I figured if you can't rock a red lip at Xmas then when can you!?

HaHaHmm · 23/12/2017 16:35

I buy the calendar largely to get the Dr Sebagh, one other product that I hope to God is coming up, a couple of surprises that I hopefully like, and the candle.

The Eve Lom, Dr Sebagh serum, Byredo hand cream are all repeats of last year. It's getting boring now. If the candle is the identical to Last year's I am jumping ship to LF next year.

So some people buy the Liberty AC because they count on certain products reappearing. Others are disappointed with the contents because too many products have reappeared.

I am very glad that it's not my job to curate the 2018 edition.

bellabelly · 23/12/2017 16:54

My first year and I have loved it. One or two products I was a bit meh about but otherwise all good and have loved opening the boxes every morning. Would have been perfect with a good moisturising cream (instead of brow oil!). May well buy again next year.

MathsFiend · 23/12/2017 18:36

BluebellGal you summarised it perfectly. The whole point of the thread is to discuss the products, not just to be cheerleaders for Liberty. While I have enjoyed some of this calendar, I do feel there have been too many cleansers and I have been a bit underwhelmed by the make-up. Even if the NARS blusher had been full size, it would have felt a bit better. I definitely preferred last year’s calendar.

For me personally, I think LookFantastic has worked out good value and would be more likely to repurchase it next year.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 23/12/2017 21:27

I couldn't afford the Liberty AC but wanted it sooooo much so have been following this thread. I have found it very negative yet I still want to save to get it next year as I think I would love the luxury of opening and touching and feeling all the glorious high-end products.

DH asked me weeks ago what I would like for Christmas - he said he had £500 which would go to me and the kids. I asked him if he could get me some class-act beauty products like Rituals or Korres. Well, I accidentally (it really was an accident) saw a few of them the other day - Dove soap bars and Tresomme shampoo!! Closed the box quickly before I further spoiled the 'surprise'. 😩😩😤😤

Ah well....there is always next year!!!!!

BulletFox · 23/12/2017 22:04

LastGirl :) well you never know...you'll find out soon!

Definitely ask for Liberty calendar next year, I really liked it and it does feel luxurious

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 23/12/2017 22:09

😃 thanks Fox!! I am definitely getting this next year!! I have been pretty envious of all the posters on this thread but really enjoying experiencing the calendar through everyone too!! A poster up thread suggested saving £3 a week so I am going to do that!!

bellabelly · 24/12/2017 00:03

Haha, that was me @LastGirlOnTheLeft - I am bad influence helpful! It has been really lovely waking up to a surprise every morning and that's been the joy of it. The calendar itself is a thing of beauty - I'm going to save it and fill it with things for my little girls next year. I notice people on ebay are flogging the empty calendars for £35 ish so that would recoup some of the cost. This thread has been a bit moany at times but the ONLY thing I would moan to the "curator" about is the lack of a moisturising cream. Basically because I have run out of moisturiser and was really hoping for one! (Didn't read the list of contents before buying as would have spoilt the surprise!)

Housewife2010 · 24/12/2017 09:59

Did you all get the Pomander candle today? I got Roses (I really wanted Pomander).

BulletFox · 24/12/2017 10:32

I had roses too

Housewife2010 · 24/12/2017 10:39

My little card said Pomander too. I ended up having a sneaky peek at tomorrow's to check it wasn't a variation. Thankfully it is as it should be.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 24/12/2017 10:50

Bella it is a fantastic idea and I am going to do it!!😃👍 you have inspired me!!

Stitchosaurus · 24/12/2017 14:53

I got Pomander and would have preferred Roses! It was fig last year which was beautiful.

I also sneaked a look in the last drawer and am happy with it. I better start the weekly saving too as I know I'm going to want LF and Liberty next year Grin
