Doe In the Snow today. Giving it another run out seeing as you are all so enthusiastic, but it's not for me. Far too sweet and "fizzy" after the initial notes (which I like)

mintmagnummm · 23/11/2017 16:46

Where do you all get these perfumes from? I've not heard of most of them! Blush

explodingkittens · 23/11/2017 17:39

Most of us are sample fiends, mint - full bottles are a big investment and expensive if you make a mistake. There are lots of sites that will send you 1ml or so for a few quid - a much better way to test loads of different scents without having to shell out too much. It's an easy way to start building a bit of a collection, but beware, it gets really addictive really quickly!

Good places to start are notino.co.uk, scentsamples, perfumista, Les Senteurs, bloom.co.uk - they will all have samples available. Work out what notes you like and start experimenting! There are also lots of fans here of an independent London perfumery called 4160 Tuesdays, who sell sample sets of their quirky, imaginative perfumes.

explodingkittens · 23/11/2017 17:48

Oh gosh. Notino have a limited offer, L'air de rien 100ml for £49.00. I've sent the link to dp suggesting that he might want to buy my Xmas present, like, today.

mintmagnummm · 23/11/2017 18:47

Thank you exploding Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 23/11/2017 18:50

SOTD was Mitsouko, but have since had a shower and put on Black Opium. Full of cold and feeling v sorry for myself. Considering ringing in sick tomorrow as the prospect of a full day’s teaching seems similar to the prospect of climbing a mountain while wearing sandals and a mini skirt.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 23/11/2017 19:23

Snap on the Mitsouko Judy. Hope the cold shifts soon.

Glad all went well PIAM. Hope boss is suitably impressed!

What's this about a Hot Pink Friday exploding???

Thanks for thoughts on candles. EBay is a good tip Bluebell - will have a look after Christmas. Also looked at melt - the one that smells of Rumtopf is tempting. Haven't had one of those since my graduation day - would bring back some fab memories!

OCSockOrphanage · 23/11/2017 20:13

I might have had a bit of a spree (but on Perfume Parlour, so it doesn't count), topping up things I like but could not justify getting the branded versions. So Iris Cedre, Imperial Tea, Amouage Lyric, and Le Labo 31. Then Googled Ormonde Jayne... and 4 x 2ml samples would have cost the same, so I stopped. Do I get the self control badge?

Scents of the last few days have been mostly Amouages PPs. They are so dense and chunky, and work really well for this time of year: Opus (but there's a series and I don't begin to follow it) Beloved, and Memoirs. All in the incense, patch. rose genre, with varied heart and base notes.

CountFosco · 23/11/2017 21:19

SotD Tart's Knicker Drawer. Raspberries and rose it mainly smells of on me. Glad I took a punt on it.

Is it just the 30ml that are half price tomorrow or everything? Can't decide if I should buy 10ml of CBC today or wait for tomorrow.

MrsMacNally · 23/11/2017 21:43

L'Artisan candles turned up in TK Maxx last Christmas for very reasonable prices, but I second the vote for This Works (especially Black Spice & Cedar)..can currently be found in clearance here.

MrsPestilence · 23/11/2017 22:24

4160 offer
Hot Pink Friday weekend will feature our limited edition specials.

Pay attention everyone! The 20% discount code is BigHint and we're applying it from tomorrow to 7 January 2018. for the 9, 30, 50 and 100ml

So we will need to wait for tomorrow, or maybe midnight Grin

SotD hasn't happened yet Shock

MrsMacNally · 24/11/2017 08:33

Quick everyone! Have alook at the 4160s site - some cheap 9mls (including A Kiss by the Fireside) and a special mossy chypre (are you there Green?).

explodingkittens · 24/11/2017 08:41

SOTD is 24 Faubourg.

I cannot cannot cannot buy any more 4160s. Not even for £7.50

Puppylucky · 24/11/2017 09:34

I'm another one who's just had a spree on pp. I have finally realised thanks to Fragrantia that the note I love in fragrances like Ange Ou Demon and Manifque is saffron so I have splurged £18.50 (!) on a few different saffron styles to try

BluebellGal · 24/11/2017 09:40

Happy hot pink Friday! Don’t go too mad ladies- Xmas is coming up (that’s more of a note to self!)

STOD is minging. That’s not it’s actual name but it might as well be. I put it on right befor I left the house, now sitting in the office a tad embarrassed by the fumes, no chance to scrub. Ain’t it allways the way that the one you don’t like has amazing Sillage! It’s Givenchy Dahlia Divin Nude EDP. I was fooled by the nude in the title, it’s way too apricoty and fruity for me!

BluebellGal · 24/11/2017 09:48

STOD?! SOTD obvs

teta · 24/11/2017 10:49

I’m wearing Hiram Green’s Moon Bloom, Shangri La and Arbolé Arbolé . Yes, it’s sample Friday and no, I’m not buying anything because it’s Black Friday.

Moon Bloom is not blooming today. The luscious Tuberose and Coconut has gone flat on me.Its like one of those abandoned ‘ haunted’ houses in Malaysia with a ylang ylang growing up its walls. But inside the house it’s dank, green and earthy , still with a muted scent of flowers filtered through the murk.
So disappointing

RebeccaBunch · 24/11/2017 11:53

here are the Hot Pink Weekend specials: www.4160tuesdays.com/4160tuesdaysscentshop/cat_1451224-Hot-Pink-Friday.html

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/11/2017 12:09

I got up at 6.30, showered, then went back to bed - dying of cold. I don’t even feel guilty as I’ve done so much class cover for other sick people this term. No SOTD, as I couldn’t smell it anyway. Bleurgh.

BluebellGal · 24/11/2017 12:20

More Black Friday enabling here...

The Perfume Society has it’s ‘heaven scent’ and ‘scent of a man’ boxes for £10 and free p&p across the site. We’ve had both of these boxes and I can recommend them t this price, especially the men’s box as it has two Elemis products as extras. The women’s box has an MFK which alone is worth £5

BluebellGal · 24/11/2017 12:31

Oops sale only for VIPs - otherwise £15. There are other discounted boxes too. I might partake (trying to sit on hands as I also want an Urban Decay Naked pallete also on BF deal).

Now in Mrs Mac sample B, it’s lovely Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 24/11/2017 13:14

Wicked, wicked, enabling vipers, the lot of us! However, I have wanted to try Who Knew? for a while.

SoTD is PP Sahaara Noire. Again. Unimaginative of me, but still.

CountFosco · 24/11/2017 13:48

SotD L'Occitane Grapefruit and Rhubarb. Off work today with a poorly child (earache so horrible for her but not too serious). Trying to resist 4160 bargains for myself. So far I've bought lots of clothes for DD2 to try and stop me spending money on myself!

BluebellGal · 24/11/2017 18:53

Where do we get all our perfumes from Mint...

Well I find out about them from the enablers on this thread and also Fragrantica.

Niche perfume shops sell samples but they can still be pretty pricey. Try Les Senteurs, Notino, Rouiller White.

Bundles of samples are cheaper and fun to discover (but can be a waste of money if you don’t like any). Try Bloom or EBay (people sell bundles of niche samples they no longer wear).

I buy a lot of boxes from the Perfume Society- I’m a VIP member (£25 pa) so get heavily discounted sample boxes. Today they are £10 delivered for 8 samples plus extras. So much cheaper than niche perfume sample sellers.

TK Maxx is also a favourite here although my local store is rubbish for perfume.

In terms of big stores, the more unusual perfumes can be found at John Lewis, Liberty, duty free.

Perfume Parlour does very cheap copies of popular and niche perfumes. The Jo Malone copies are reported to be better lasting than the real thing and smell just as good

OCSockOrphanage · 24/11/2017 20:17

Hang around a while, Mint, read and smell, and it will make sense. We are ultra-friendly to new perfumistas. Few people here have many full sized bottles because we all like to smell everything, and with 1300 or so perfume launches every year, it makes sense to swap notes. So, when someone who likes similar stuff to you raves about a scent, you pay attention. (Any disagreement so far?)

For me, I had a quick sashay past the HoF counters and tried Twilly (nice, but not a must have on first try, but more than decent and good lasting quality) and the SL Dent de Lait (powerfully almond, and I liked it much more than I expected a lot, but strong, almost tuberose, which I am not fond of) and l'Orpheline, which is watery and pretty but inoffensive. If I were buying one on PP, it would be Dent de Lait, but I shan't.
