A continuation of our Long running thread. Think this is just in time.

Lots of lovely things to smell.
Everyone is welcome.

Hello all! Hope everyone is ok and smelling lovely. Just updating my SOTD after a period of being very dull - basically hunkering down in Truth or Dare ( my comfort scent) during a tough time at work. Anyhoo I have just discovered a pp dupe of Manifique by Lancome that I ordered on a whim months ago and I love it! It has a wonderfully earthy saffron top note and drys down to a sharply herby green musk. It's what I thought I would get from Chanel 19 / Secrets - but those are too soft and powdery. No idea what the original smelt like but this is gorgeous Grin

OCSockOrphanage · 22/11/2017 13:50

Melt candles could well be my doing, Motoko. I love the Forest scent, and had forgotten I have some of the sample candles lurking in the wardrobe. Violet and Black Pepper sounds familiar. Saddle is subtle but pleasant. DH doesn't like strong fragrances so I have to be careful.

JanetStWalker · 22/11/2017 14:18

Coromandel EDT today, easily my desert island scent. Better not be a tropical island though, temperature wise it's probably better suited to the Isle of Man. Hmm

teta · 22/11/2017 14:33

I have Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom plus Basil & Neroli On. About 3 sprays each arm and neck. Coupled with a flowering Jasmine - this room reeks ....,,,,,nicely though!
Although dd1 dislikes the smell of the real Jasmine that I adore.
Sending healthy anti-illness vibes to everyone in the throes of ill health and ongoing teeth issues.
Anyone else freezing today?
It’s windy here and out Edwardian house up the top of a hill has too many draughts Sad

MrsPestilence · 22/11/2017 14:54

Grin Janet I will be on the Island next week, contemplating what perfume to take.

Magnifique sounds rather good Puppy

SotD is Apuldre again and Fleur d`Oranger Baie Rose in my hair.

Tropical or Man, Pest? Shock

Motoko · 22/11/2017 17:07

Saddle is subtle but pleasant.

That's 25% off today according to the email they sent this morning.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 22/11/2017 19:27

Mmm boozy Christmas puds. Or any type actually. Have ordered a sample Blush

EMS is Shalimar--esque you say boldly. Sounds better and better... Shame about the price though - such a lot for a blind buy.

The candles sound good. Looking forward to hearing how you get on Motoko. A bit tempted to try a Diptyque in the new year - are they worth it?

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/11/2017 19:47

SOTD is Rive Gauche.

There is snow forecast here tomorrow, which makes me want to weep.

CountFosco · 22/11/2017 21:41

SotD Papillon's Tobacco Rose. Still can smell it now. Love these Papillon perfumes.

MrsPestilence · 22/11/2017 22:55

Man as in Manannan Janet Hmm

floofy good news about impending possible op - fingers crossed for you

cheap I reckon Diptyque candles are worth it. Have a look on eBay for unwanted gifts post Xmas. I have the Pomander one and my living room smells wonderful right now even though it’s not lit.

I also like this thread a lot but don’t partake in much of mumsnet these days. I hang around S&B a bit cause it’s friendly and I used to be in a supportive antenatal thread. Nowadays I dip in for a bit of parenting advice but I find some of the trending threads a bit much. I remember a lot of hoohah about some cheeky neighbours and people writing songs etc. I was a bit like Hmm don’t the people on this thread have a life, it’s really not that interesting if it’s not happening to you! Well not 10 threads worth of interesting anyway, but you know horses for courses. Plenty of people would be bored shitless by our chatter here Grin

SOTD was Shay and Blue Framboise Noire to help me relax (usually bedtime scent). Have needed it today - plenty of stress at work and home. Can’t wait for Xmas break now

BluebellGal · 22/11/2017 23:04

Thanks to everyone sharing their thoughts on captured by candlelight... it’s going on the sample list for Xmas Smile

Motoko · 22/11/2017 23:08

I haven't tried Dyptique, I think they're too expensive. The mark up on them must be massive.

BluebellGal · 22/11/2017 23:17

Yes Motoko- Diptyque are ridiculously expensive - I’ve never paid full price. But I know some candle lovers who don’t think twice about the price! Luxury candles are really expensive. The melt candles are luxurious but at a very good price. They offer very good value for money and have some interesting, well blended scents

BluebellGal · 22/11/2017 23:27

Talking of luxury candles, I discovered that Miller Harris makes candles and they are much cheaper than other perfume houses.

Eg up to £25 for 185g MH (Noix de Tubereuse, L’aur de rein) versus £45 for 190g Diptyque Baies. Officially the MH are £45 but you can pick up the ones in the older packaging for much less.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 23/11/2017 06:21

I did it! (roman turnip thing) 140 middle school kids and my 18 yr olds co-ordinating the treasure hunt. Ended up with cauliflower as we couldn't find a turnip. My 5th years (the 18yr olds) were brill.

Obviously have just been slinging Opium/Sahara Noir on in the runup and haven't even opened the boxes of Christmas orders that have been arriving!

The most expensive candles I've ever had were a Rive Gauche one back in 89 (it was amazing but the ceramic pot cracked!) and then White Company. I've always wondered about £££££s ones. May need to try...

mintmagnummm · 23/11/2017 06:35

Meant to say in my first post that I also love Elizabeth Arden green tea perfume! What notes are in here and is there anything similar?

explodingkittens · 23/11/2017 06:55

Green Tea notes You can search by notes on Fragrantica as well, although they don't seem to have a specific note for green tea, which is odd.

There are a ton of flankers for the original EA Green Tea so you might like some of those? Good old TK Maxx usually has a few and they're pretty cheap so not too much of a gamble if you're buying blind.

explodingkittens · 23/11/2017 08:18

SOTD is Captured by Candlelight. It really is rum-soaked fruits and candles. It makes me smile, very enjoyable indeed. I don't think there's going to be any other option for a Christmas Day perfume!

MrsMacNally · 23/11/2017 08:38

SotD is Coromandel.

teta · 23/11/2017 09:25

This Works do lovely candles as do Neom. I normally buy them from Tk Maxx when they’re considerably discounted.
Sotd is Mfk Amyris Femme.
Mint, Eclat d Arpege is a brilliant Floral Green Tea perfume that’s pretty inexpensive.

BluebellGal · 23/11/2017 10:44

SOTD LADDM by Tauer

Hope you’re all having a lovely smelling day so far Wink

explodingkittens · 23/11/2017 15:20

Just a reminder for 4160s Hot Pink Friday tomorrow

I've had to respray Captured by Candlelight but I am definitely in the thumbs-up camp for this one. I just wish it had a bit more longevity.

explodingkittens · 23/11/2017 15:24

Having a work from home day today and have found myself drifting towards the perfume stash for a bit of sneaky sniffing. I've organised all my samples into 'autumn/winter' and 'spring/summer' like the loser I clearly am and have done a quick head-count.

My perfume collection now numbers 82 - that's samples and FBs Shock I know some of you perfumistas will be waaaay over that but I'm a little gobsmacked given that I only joined this thread in the summer!
