I so nearly bought the M&S La Rose, so many times, and am sorry I didn't now. But I swooped on one of the Who Knew returns and am looking forward to its arrival on MOnday. I should have four new rose scents on the way, so I have my fingers crossed they are all really different. I do love roses, and they don't grow well here.

explodingkittens · 24/11/2017 20:54

24 Faubourg just lasts and lasts and lasts. My wool wrap is becoming the Fabled Scarf of a Thousand Scents Smile

PerfumeIsAMessage · 24/11/2017 21:44

My Opium arrived from Allbeauty. It's very very similar to the PP dupe. The YSL is slightly sharper, less smooth.
A perfect run up to Christmas scent anyway.

My Yankee candle Black Friday offer arrived too. 1 medium jar, 2 small jars, 4 small candles, 24 tealights, all Christmas scents. It's back up to £60 now. I paid £23.

mintmagnummm · 25/11/2017 06:57

Ooh just thought of another perfume I like but haven't had for ages! Samsara!

MrsMacNally · 25/11/2017 09:50

There are a couple of different woody/green specials on the 4160s site this morning. Pest - Elven Garden sounds made for you: woods, herbs and leaves. And there is also The Refreshing Rainforest - forest and fruit notes. Wondering who would like a 9ml in their Christmas stocking....

MrsMacNally · 25/11/2017 10:09

Sorry - posting on hoof and left out a paragraph break between the greenery and the 9mls (which are not these special editions).

bluesu · 25/11/2017 14:05

! I just did a major splurge arghhh!

Went to Harvey nicks to buy DH his perfumes, ended up spending a bloody fortune on him 🙄 so thought I might treat myself while I was there and mistakenly sniffed the new range By Kilian

X amount of £ later and I’m now the proud owner of Woman In Gold. Which I couldn’t resist because it smells of all my sickly sweet favourites - Tocade (remember that?!) and Lily Flame’s Fairy dust candle Grin

I know these sickeningly sweet scents aren’t to everyone’s tastes (ahem) but I’m in love, so I’m love!

How’s this for a description:

SOTD is JM Wood Sage. This cold is making me so miserable.

CountFosco · 25/11/2017 18:51

Initial SotD Papillon's Dryad. DH hasn't smelt the top notes before and wasn't so keen until it settled down at which point he loved it again.

Went into town this afternoon and spent a small fortune on 'stocking fillers' (3 DC) so popped into HoF and gave myself a squirt of Mitsouko. Should have read the notes better on Fragrantica, I'm getting no spice yet but lots of peach. I don't like peach. I'm going to try Shalimar next, no peach.

explodingkittens · 25/11/2017 19:43

Oh, sending getting-better vibes, judy. Colds are miserable.

SOTD has been Le Maroc Pour Elle. I didn't get on with this first time I tried it, and it's not got better. I love a powdery rose and I have no problem at all with 'old-lady' scents but there is something about this I just can't love. Sorry Andy Sad

Hi bluesu. The Killian certainly sounds interesting - and I think we need to know what perfumes you got for dh too!

CountFosco · 25/11/2017 20:13

Oh Judy you poor thing. I'm more or less over my cold but DD1 is still full of the cold and I know that stage when you are exhausted and think you are never going to get better is horrible. I recommend (OTC) drugs, sleep, Olbas Oil and hot Ribena in abundance.

OCSockOrphanage · 25/11/2017 20:31

Judy, have you come across Sterimar saline nasal sprays? My doctor is a bit ahead of the curve and has been refusing antibiotic prescriptions s for a while. Instead he suggests people with nasty colds use Sterimar nasal sprays. They are saline with mineral additives, two variants, one for colds, another for allergic reactions. Cost about a fiver in Boots. Not a cure, but they help me, clear our the cavities and are not going to have any lasting effect on the eco-sphere. And, grandma's remedy, ask your pharmacist for a few grams of menthol crystals to inhale. A pinch in boiling water, with a towel over your head really loosens. Very many apologies if this is teaching grandma to suck eggs.

BluebellGal · 25/11/2017 21:22

Get well soon Judy
I’ve had success with saline sprays in the past Sock

Bluesu the new Killian sounds intriguing, Fairy dust is one of my all time favourite scents, just love it. I’m partial to some sweet scents - they can be sophisticated if in the right hands (ie Francis Kurkdjian)

Case in point, SOTD was Baccarat Rouge 540 by MFK. Very sweet smelling and utterly divine (imo!). I saw that PP make a dupe- has anyone tried it? Is it as nuanced and beautiful as the real MFK or does it just smell of candyfloss?

explodingkittens · 25/11/2017 21:54

The house is so cold that I've gone to bed (two duvets, tacky fleece matalan pyjamas) with a spray of Captured by Candlelight. It must be love!

teta · 25/11/2017 22:28

I’ve had a hot bath with a rose body wash and several sprays of Drole d ‘rose. Took dd1 to a uni interview several hours away and stayed in a Travel lodge overnight.Got really wheezy overnight and remembered dd2 had my inhaler from my handbag. Had to calm myself down in a steamy bathroom and then try to sleep with This Works sleep spray with my mouth closed.

Motoko · 25/11/2017 23:43

Talking of menthol crystals, when I used to make soaps and stuff, I made my own version of Vic's Vaporub.
After melting the oils and beeswax, I added the essential oils and a couple of menthol crystals, leaned over the pot and took a big sniff.
Phew, I've never had such clear sinuses! Really knocked me back. Didn't make that mistake again!

The rub was really good though.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 26/11/2017 08:02

I have always suffered with sinusitis (my mum and cousin both had chunks chopped off their nose bones to try and improve theirs) and always have a pot of those menthol crystals in. Ditto olbas etc. My other cousin's mother, when she first bought Olbas, poured it straight down the poor child's schnozz. She probably never had sinusitis again. Or sinuses!

I have a neti pot which really works but I don't use it pre-emptively though I know I should!

CountFosco- that was what I got from Mitsouko as well (sweet fizzy peach) I was very surprised as I had expected warmth and spice.

Am still having a one-love session with Opium, though might have a Tauer squirt as it's Sunday and also the first Sunday in 3 I am.not going to be working all day and fretting about it.

I may make mincemeat and watch more Christmas cookery on youtube.

Teta, hope you are better now!

explodingkittens · 26/11/2017 10:26

Started this morning with HdP Olympia Music Hall, which I think has so much potential to be a really fascinating leathery floral but sadly on me is just a bit soapy and meh. So scrubbed and went for Goodbye Piccadilly. I really really want to grow to love this so I am persevering. The notes and the backstory are just great. But perhaps a frosty November morning isn't the right setting; it doesn't have the warmth and depth I need today. Sadly I oversprayed somewhat so taking it off will involve another shower Hmm

I have a big shop to do, and a lecture to write. Two baskets full of dirty washing and a teen ds who is doing his best Kevin the Teenager impression this morning. Dbro has just rung to say he's 'popping round' with my two lovely but full-on nephews. And dp left at 6am to play golf 150 miles away. This is not the day for the Wrong Perfume.

CountFosco · 26/11/2017 18:29

Paris 1948 today. I'll ignore the peach notes because I mainly get hay and the smell of my Grandmother. Pure nostalgia.

Christmas pud mixed, will be in the slow cooker tomorrow. This has been a serious revelation for me, stick the pudding bowl in the slow cooker bowl, half fill the slow cooker bowl with water so the xmas pud is sitting in a bain marie. Then put the slow cooker on high for 6 hours. Much less evaporation than in a steamer and so no topping up is required. Much more reliable and less watching required.

Too much money has been spent this weekend on Christmas presents but I've also done some serious vinyasa yoga so feeling strong and virtuous and calm(ish). So I bought myself a Christmas sweatshirt from H&M.

BluebellGal · 26/11/2017 18:29

SOTD Jayne Ormonde Tsarina
Busy Sunday here!

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/11/2017 18:45

SOTD is FM Hiver. Thanks for all the well wishes, I am still rotten and have already let work know I won’t be in tomorrow. I have had a big bath with Aromatherapy Associates Breathe oil. OC I have seen those in Boots, so might get DP to pick one up tomorrow. Currently on Day Nurse and Otrivine.

bluesu · 26/11/2017 21:04

Explodingkittens DH got Christian Dior’s Bois D’Argent and Ambre Nuit and Kilian Intoxicated.* Intoxicated is by far my fave.* Yum yum yum 😁

bluesu · 26/11/2017 21:07

BluebellGal I love the baccarat rouge, it’s so distinctive (and sweet, very sweet I love the sweets) but it’s my best friends signature scent so I feel like I can’t steal it for myself 😂 I did use it on a night out with her and I was still sniffing it on my coat collar for weeks, it’s amazing!

I’m intrigued by a dupe though as it may just be a teeny bit different??

bluesu · 26/11/2017 21:07

(Bold fail on my second to last post there, sorry)

MrsPestilence · 26/11/2017 21:49

SotD is mitsouko

PP dupes are really hit or miss. Some are even rumoured to be better than the originals.
