A continuation of our Long running thread. Think this is just in time.

Lots of lovely things to smell.
Everyone is welcome.

I only read the first page of that thread and decided I didn't want to read any more "who made you the lift police?".

I've had children in buggies, and now I'm in a wheelchair, so completely understood what the OP was talking about.

Urgh.

mintmagnummm · 21/11/2017 17:35

Where is this lift thread? I’m intrigued

explodingkittens · 21/11/2017 17:38

I've been on MN for 15 years gimmer and I don't bother with anything but this thread anymore. I lurk a bit on feminism and that's it. I just find it all waaay too intense now.

Am GrinGrin at 'fucking heck' though.

God I'm tired. Need wine and a long hot bath. Commuting in and out of London is the pits and I'm so, so over it!

Chergui has lasted well, but I think I might want something else this evening.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 21/11/2017 19:21

My sample of Captured by Candlelight arrived today. It included a sample of Eau My Soul which I have just sprayed on and it is just gorgeous! It has all the notes I love. I now really, really want a bottle...

explodingkittens · 21/11/2017 19:25

Well I came home to 9mls of Captured by Candlelight and a further bonus 2.25ml of Eau My Soul. Very excited by both of these - have given them both a quick spritz on the back of my hands but think they need proper time and devotion paid to them.

explodingkittens · 21/11/2017 19:27

Snap boldly! Grin

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 21/11/2017 19:37

Oh no!!!! This is testing me - how amazing to have a free sample of Eau My Soul!!!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 21/11/2017 19:40

Grin kittens, it reminds me of Shalimar. Be interesting to see what you think. Aiming to spray Captured by Candlelight tomorrow.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/11/2017 20:03

SOTD is MMM Fireplace. It has rained non-stop for 48 hours and barely even got light today, so I needed cosy.

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 21/11/2017 20:04

Motoko snap, I now use a wheelchair and all those people on that thread saying “of course I would let wheelchair users go first” made me roll my eyes so hard - no one in RL does this! When my DC were little we just had umbrella type strollers which we folded (on public transport too, it was just normal to do so!) - I wouldn’t have dreamt of going ahead of a wheelchair user who had no other choices just because I had a bloody great pram I couldn’t be arsed folding

sorry it’s a bit of a sore point for me at the moment for various reasons. It is all going all kinds of wrong here and the only positive is I might get my op (cancelled twice in Summer!) shortly. How shit is my life atm that this is a positive! FML as the teenagers would say (on that note PIAM the Roman turnip things sounds amazing, you sound like a great teacher with an fabulous ability to engage and really make it interesting for students!)

Mint welcome, I recognise you from Bo’s skincare threads which I am strangely drawn to despite my routine solely comprising of washing my face in the shower Shock and then just putting SPF on. The shame. Don’t tell Bo Blush

Agree kittens I think a lot of perfumistas are MN gimmers and 90% of the threads atm make my eyes roll out of my head. I have marked my favourite topics and tend to stick to them (Style and Beauty, despite having neither style, skincare or indeed much hair Grin) The Litter Tray, Christmas...and errrmm I think that’s actually it Shock

SOTD is Mandorlo you know, the marzipan one! Comfort for the Sad Times (I am definitely turning into a teenager!)

Am sending positive vibes for all teeth, mouthguards and relaxing abilities for all...

OCSockOrphanage · 21/11/2017 20:20

The AIBU threads sometimes sound interesting, and you click, and they are full of people spitting hate. I read five posts, if that, and back away before it becomes contagious. Not an MN veteran, but I tend to stick to S&B, especially perfume topics, with forays into education and politics.

Today's scent was the PP dupe of AMouage Memoirs Woman. It's fine, not thrilling. And I can only catch a tiny whiff now. But it was an oil roll on.

As an aside, I love this thread. It's amiable, and warm, and supportive as well as being fiercely opinionated. Don't abandon it; I have mental pictures of all the regulars, and space for the newbies too. I would miss MN for this thread alone.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/11/2017 20:24

Oh my god, that lift thread. My work is in a really tall building, and the lifts are frequently out of order - my office is on the seventh floor, and while I always walk down, the way up is actually eight and a half flights which is too much first thing with bags of stuff, heavy coat etc. The number of people who get the lift up one flight, or down, when only one lift is working drives me insane. I taught a girl last year who had a muscle wasting disease and just couldn’t manage the stairs - she was registered disabled with a specially adapted car - but looked perfectly “fine”and was too polite to ask people to move. I was forever chucking people out of the lift so she could get in.

MrsPestilence · 21/11/2017 20:30

Oooh, exciting if the op might be near Floofy seems you have been waiting for ages. Here's hoping it happens this time.

Kittens pretty good sample to get with a 9ml and Boldly you got a sample with a sample Shock

The lift thread got deleted. My DM was a wheelchair user and I spent my childhood watching her being discriminated against. I spent my early teens calling people on it (a bit too rudely), by my late teens I had mastered the art of calling people out exceedingly politely. Smile

Second SotD is Apuldre by Molton Brown, ta muchly MrsM

Green DH's mission to TKMaxx was a success. Perfume squirty bottle will be on the way in a couple of days.

Evening All

Tell us about Eau My Soul EK - the notes sound promising.

I can't cope with Captured by Candlelight very often - it's just sooo boozy it makes me worry I smelt like a problem drinker....really.

MrsPestilence · 21/11/2017 20:41

it's just sooo boozy it makes me worry I smelt like a problem drinker PMSL this from the woman who needs to make a perfume with plums, dried fruit and booze, with cloves and cinnamon, on top of a really dark sticky resinous base next time she goes to a 4160 workshop. I take it that Captured by Candlelight is realllllllllllllly BOOZY Grin

MrsMacNally · 21/11/2017 20:41

What did you think of Apuldre Pest? My theory is I don't get on with it for the same reason I don't warm to Up the Apples and Pairs. And given your love for that, and interest in things botantical and aromatic, I wondered if it might appeal? It's quite challenging...

MrsPestilence · 21/11/2017 20:47

Not getting the juniper note at all (note to self, gin may taint perfume). Cedar followed by green and leather, it is alright but fading very quickly. Will try again tomorrow.

MrsMacNally · 21/11/2017 20:48

Pest - yes, makes you feel anxious to be near naked flames, especially if wearing manmade fibres.

It's lovely though Smile.

My taste in Xmas pudding is considerably darker - mine are near-black, not very sweet and very, very mature. (I sometimes make a pear and ginger variant).

explodingkittens · 21/11/2017 21:27

Am going to give EMS a proper run out tomorrow so will definitely report back. It certainly sounds intriguing. I'm quite surprised to have been sent a sample of it; I thought it was a bit of a 'special' 4160 (it was the only one not available in the 3 for 2), but am very pleased to be able to try it.

Sorry hear things are a bit shit Floofy. Really hope the op happens for you. Judy am oddly pleased that you're enjoying Fireplace so much! It's perfect for grim November days.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/11/2017 21:50

pest I read that as “jumper note”and was thinking, hmm, that sounds intriguing. Yes, kittens, I am clearly all about the cosy right now! (Immediately it gets past Christmas I will be pining for things like Sel Marin.)

mintmagnummm · 22/11/2017 06:35

Gloves you bad bad girl, I won’t tell bo don’t worry 😜

boldlygoingsomewhere · 22/11/2017 07:55

SOTD is Captured by Candlelight - don't get the boozy notes so much just a gorgeous smokiness like a wood fire, mixed with a hint of spice and berries. This will definitely be my Christmas scent this year.

GlovesAndHatsAndFloofyCats · 22/11/2017 08:19

You all make the boozy CBC sound so lovely, I better steer clear though as it sounds dangerous to me - one sniff and i will be Father Jack “Feck! Drink! Perfume!”

MrsP you must have made your mother very proud sticking up for her - I remember DD1 (normally quiet and shy) the first time she was with me on public transport when I had crutches and she said loudly and more aggressively than passively “are you all going to sit there and watch my Mum struggle with her crutches?!” and half the bus got up hastily Grin I’m glad the lift thread got deleted, the irony for me is I am claustrophobic and bloody hate lifts - never used them before my illness and still hate using them but needs must.

SOTD was Shalimar - a touch OTT at 6am but needs must and all that!

explodingkittens · 22/11/2017 09:52

SOTD Eau My Soul. This opens up with a really fizzy, lemonade-y bergamot and booze note. It then fairly quickly settles into sandalwood, incense, patchouli. For the first hour or so it smells like snuffed-out joss sticks, lemony candles and brandy (basically my third-year student house Grin) However depending on where it's sprayed I've now got quite differing notes. The warmer bits of me (!!) are more bergamot/rose/lavender whilst my wrists have the drier notes of sandalwood to the fore.

I like it a lot. However, the longevity isn't great and even though I oversprayed, by my usual standards, I'm having to bury my nose in my wrist to get a whiff. But it is lovely.

How much would Sarah charge for developing an MN Perfumista scent, I wonder...?

Motoko · 22/11/2017 10:03

Oh Floofy, I'd have loved to have seen that! Someone loudly shaming the other passengers. How old was your daughter?
And yes to the umbrella fold buggies. Baby, buggy and probably a carrier bag or two in one arm, small child's hand held with the other, and if you were lucky, a space under the stairs to put the buggy.
I hope they don't cancel your op again.

SOTD is E.Coudray Musc et Freesia.

Oh, who was it that mentioned Melt candles? I hadn't heard of them, so went and checked their site. I love that you can get samples of the candles, it's an inspired idea, as you're usually buying blind with scented candles online.
I ordered 5 samples, Christmas, Autumn, Noel, Forest, and Violet and Black Pepper. They smell lovely in their little envelopes, so I'm going to clean out my wax melt burner thingy to see how well the scent throws when melted.
