Leopard print coat mid 40's - a bit Bet Lynch?

I've been toying with the idea of buying a leopard print coat.

I don't live in a big place so have wild ideas on what to wear but end up being more conservative for fear of what others think! Really stupid, I know, but I'm a bit shy.

Anyway, what do you think of leopard coats or jackets? Will it look a bit Bet Lynch or Liz McDonald? If I wear my usual boots and skinny jeans would it look ok?

Thank you Halloween Smile

Well I went leopard print coat shopping today and they were very thin on the ground. I’m kicking myself for not getting the one I loved a year or two ago when I tried it on. Might have a hoke through eBay...

Has anyone seen one like this on their leopard print search? I’m not entirely certain that I can pull it off but if I can find one similar I’m going to give it a go.

Martin! I love you. Thank you. I don’t think it’s quite as long as I’d ideally like but it’s virtually bang on! Just hope I don’t look ridiculous in it!!

There's a good one in H&M m2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0549604001.html

It's not quite knee length but the model might just be really tall

I have just acquired a blue-grey toned Boden leopardskin jacket off Ebay.

Very happy with it.

I can't do beige anything, I look ill.

I'm drowning in bloody lepoard skin here! Earlier in the week I had two delivered: the M&S one in a 12 (last one they had) and the sosander in a 14 (also the last one). I sent the M&S back as it was just too tight, but the sosander one is on the loose side, and I'm still losing weight. While trying to decide whether to keep the sosander one, I saw this Betty Barclay one in HoF (first pic). It's a 12, but a looser fit than M&S. in terms of fit, it's probably the best of the three. But I'm not sure if it's just a bit 'off'. The patch pockets maybe? I never know what makes one item just right and another slightly frumpy, so I'm not sure. What do you think?

I'm wearing mine right now for the 3rd time (only round the shops, but still...). It got lots of compliments on the school run on Wednesday.

Really really love it. It's fabulous and adds fabulousness to my day. I am STRUTTING round Tesco.

I not sure about the patch pockets tbh cherries, sorry, but only because you pointed them out, maybe I wouldn'thave noticed otherwise. Could you pick out the stitching and get rid of them? The pattern is so dense you probably won't see needle holes anyway Smile

I love leopard print coats, I'm also blonde and just under 40. It never occurred to me about Bet lynch until nowGrin Oh well....
I like the M&S one, I haven't seen anything I like in there for a while.

I like the look of this one too. Lovely collar, maybe a bit shorter than some of the others:

I would trust your instincts cherries. It looks perfectly fine in the pic but I'm not a fan of patch pockets - they're not snuggly and I don't find them very flattering either.

Report
ilovecherries · 10/11/2017 10:59

Thanks Flo. I think it IS the pockets that are making me doubtful. Apart from anything else, you can't put your hands in them! But I think they are doing something to the flow of the lines somehow. Neither are faux fur, they're printed, but the sosander one seems to have a drape and softness to the lines about it that the BB one doesn't.

there's a VeraModa on ebay atm....I am unsure about it because of the buttons.

Report
ilovecherries · 10/11/2017 11:26

Is it buttons generally you don't like (I love buttons!) or those ones in particular? If the latter, I'd snap it up. Great price and buttons can easily be changed. I'm loathing the current trend for press studs, I think it's just a price cutting cop out.

Staying on the leopard theme. Could I wear these boots with a navy sweater dress and black tights (I would NOT be wearing a leopard coat at the same time!) Or too much? Having been enabled here to embrace my (late!) mid life crisis, I'm clearly going to hell in a handcart because I have fallen in love with these boots.

I think leopard coats are very Mrs Robinson, whose chic look I've always coveted.

Bet's problem, if she had one, is that she went for an overtly sexy look which potentially looks a bit desperate if you're older and/or a 'jolie laide' type. Leopard may once have been a kind of shorthand for that, but it's an old fashioned view now.

My old Primark leopard coat is in the dressing up box, but that's because it looks like it's made out of cheap cuddly toys. A better quality one (not necessarily expensive) should suit all ages. Why not?

I think the kind of people who think leopard print is inappropriate for older women are probably to be found wearing beige gilets, shapeless jeans and rubbery orthopaedic shoes. People who live in glass houses, etc etc!

The UK is sold out of leopard print!!

Not only is Sosander gone but M&S disappeared from my bag as I was in the middle of ordering!

I have just sent the M and S one back. It’s quite bulky at the front because it’s double breasted. Ok when open like the pix above and it is a good length but not so good done up.

ilovecherries- curses, I think you must have the last Sosander that I was after!!

At the moment I'm pinning my hopes on a Karen Millen 12.

M&S 12 is gone so I'd have to take a risk of sizing up to 14 but keep hearing that their sizing is slightly skewiff anyway gawd knows what it would be like.

Huge dilemma - quick advice needed.

I am now desperate to get my coat tomorrow. A cock-up with Karen Millen - I pressed next day rather than Saturday delivery and apparently it is nigh on impossible to get that changed. The lovely customer service person is trying to sort it out (it does seem unbelievable that it can't be changed 10 mins after an order was put in but there we go).

Anyway, then found (due to all the leopard prints ads that are now popping up all over my system) a fantastic Biba one in HoF.

They are totally different colour, style, texture and I don't know which to go for. HoF definitely do next day delivery but I feel a bit guilty about the KM person who has tried to help me (not sure that is a good reason to buy the coat though ...).

So should I cancel KM and go with HoF?
