Leopard print coat mid 40's - a bit Bet Lynch?

I've been toying with the idea of buying a leopard print coat.

I don't live in a big place so have wild ideas on what to wear but end up being more conservative for fear of what others think! Really stupid, I know, but I'm a bit shy.

Anyway, what do you think of leopard coats or jackets? Will it look a bit Bet Lynch or Liz McDonald? If I wear my usual boots and skinny jeans would it look ok?

Thank you Halloween Smile

Thank you so much for your ideas and opinions.

As someone who is cool toned I've been checking out the black/grey end of the leopard coats' market after some of the comments.

I guess I'm chickening out, but I reckon they would go better with my colouring. I look like I'm about to throw up when wearing camel/yellow so grey/black will be better Halloween Grin

I will not hear a word said against Bet Lynch. However I accept that at the moment, teaming a leopard skin coat with vinyl trousers, low cut top, stilletos and a beehive will not look very current. Personally I think fashion just needs to catch up with Bet but, in the meantime dressing it down, the way you are planning and in any colour, sounds fine.

If it were me, I would google-image Kate Moss who seems to have gone strangely quiet of late but who still sets the bar for this kind of low key glamour, I think.

OP - did you notice everyone in your photos was wearing dark glasses? Is this shorthand for too cool for school as they are a slightly odd pairing from a meteorological point of view?

Do you think? Sunglasses aren't just for warm weather. Sunglasses are to avoid squinting in to the sun which can often happen of a cold winter's day.

I'm 52 and have two leopard print coats!!

Yes, I did MrsMacNally! However, I was just saying to Mr. Rohdes the other day, while driving along, how blinding the low winter sun can be. They do look like right poseurs in the photos in fairness Grin

I'm even older - late 50s and I wear one. Not expensive but looks fine. Don't wear it with heels though just flat boots or shoes. I'm not blonde!

I was coveting one in M&S (its subdued, not a fur) I'm brunette and 51.

My daughter muttered "Rita Fairclough" and "Kat Slater" under her breath but the "Pat Butcher" comment was saved for a fawn trenchcoat Grin

My 22 year old DD wears a leopard print coat. She wouldn’t know who Bet was and neither would her friends. She’s very slim, wears very high heels and has blonde hair. I think if you are a little bit older then do a toned down leopard print as others have suggested.

Bet Lynch is my style icon!

Early 40s here, and love my leopard coat. Mine is faux fur, but was quite expensive and not too plush, so it doesn’t look cheap. I wore it twice last week - first with a black tube skirt, black opaques, black Stan Smiths and a black and white Bella Freud jumper, then with black slightly cropped flared jeans, a stripy jumper, and black Chelsea boots. I’m brunette and always wear red lipstick. (Two unknown people randomly complimented me on those days, one a very cool young man in Zara.)

Ok. So now reading this I want a leopard print coat baaaaaaaaaa. I’m 40. A redhead. Does that mean I’m more Rita Fairclough?

I'm in my 50s, I have a leopard fake fur floor length coat, muted colours, not the yellow and orange!! I also have the grey bob, I never miss an opportunity now that the weather is colder to wear it with skinnies and ankle boots.... Life is too short to worry what other people think, own the look!!

Wear mine with skinnies, ankle boots and the ubiquitous breton top. And sunglasses!!

I’m 52, have a floor length faux fur snow leopard coat I’ve worn for the last 7 years, bloody love it!

OP wear one that’s the right style and colour for you and enjoy it. Smile

I’m 45 & I’ve got one - I love it. I either where it with trainers, skinnies & a sweatshirt, or I’ve worn heels, leather look skinnies & a plain black t-shirt. I have a blonde pixie cut, so I’d like to think I’m rocking a sassy look, rather than a brassy Bet Linch...

Anthropologie have a nice, mid-length, straight-cut one, that would work dressed down.

zippyswife, thank you. I really did give up caring what other people thought years ago, but it's good to hear people say it's nice!! Age is only a number and as long as I'm note wearing chuff high skirts and stomach skimming tops then what harm does it do SmileHalloween Smile

Well I'm 50 & I wear one and god forbid I am also blonde although I was brunette when I bought it last year! 😀

If you have found one you like just buy it!

I'm more Richie Manic.....

I'm brunette in leopard and sometimes red lippy too - I'm 44.

I team with black skinnies and boots.

It's faux fur and was a bargain from Tesco. I think it suits my style and I feel more Indie than landlady.

Go for it!

I've had mine ages and find it very versatile. Looks good with jogging bottoms and sweatshirt or a dress. If you like it get it.

Trinny featured a nice one on her IS yesterday. It was from M&S and more taupe/silver than yellow/gold. She said it would work well if you were an ashy blonde.

I’m 38 and have one - got mine from top shop last year. I love it, it’s not my everyday coat, I wear it mostly when out in the evening. There are lots of classy non Bett Lynch style leopard print coats out there at the moment and age is not a factor imo.

Personally I'd rather look like Bet Lynch than Blend into the Background White Stuff Woman.

Pretty sure I look like neither. But, what im saying is if you like it, wear it and enjoy it.

(No offence to White Stuff lovers. If that's your thing, enjoy that too, peace out Smile)
