Head shave to go grey

Has anyone gone down the buzz cut route in order to transition to grey?

I am seriously considering it and just bunging a hat on rather than go through another disappointing processing episode and putting off the inevitable or dyeing over it when it turns a weird shade.

I am absolutely comfortable being grey.

So has anyone bitten the bullet and if so how was it?

Happy new year! How was everyone's Christmas? Still embracing my grey hair, hoping to get it cut this week, which should be the last of the dye cut out of it.

blueskyinmarch · 01/01/2018 15:19

I am still loving my grey that is coming in. When i see strands of the coloured hair against the grey the coloured strands look very yellow and harsh. I think i am still a few cuts away from being totally grey.

Cocolepew · 01/01/2018 15:24

I'm still plodding away. Had another wee trimBlush but haven't bleached or dyed it. I'm quite happy with it so far.

EraArils · 01/01/2018 15:33

New year, new grey.

I'm now 4 months post head shaved/buzzed and my hair is now a soft, messy pixie like style. I'm loving my colours, I say colours because I seem to have a myriad of greys. So glad I cut out all the dye and embraced my natural tones.

Cocolepew · 04/01/2018 15:29

How's everyone getting on?
I took the head staggers and cut a straight fringe in, I want a sort of bowl cut. I've saw a couple of people with it and liked it, thought it would help with growing it.
I look like Blackadder.

....... I see your Blackadder, and raise you Mrs Brown...

Got it cut today, dye is all gone. I feel shorn! I am very meh about it- both the cut and colour. It is shorter than normal, the colour is weird to me, and my face is not impish enough. Having a wobble!

Tiedie · 04/01/2018 17:06

Your curls are beautiful! Hoosier

Cocolepew · 04/01/2018 17:38

Mrs Brown Grin
Nonsense, it looks great. Id love curls Envy

HoosierDaddy · 04/01/2018 18:14

You are very kind 😊 I need to rewash it and play with it, and maybe buy a whole new wardrobe 🤔

shopafrolic · 04/01/2018 18:19

Just delurking to say how inspiring this thread is. I am 45 yo with thick naturally wavy hair. My first grey hairs appeared in my 20s but my hairdresser tells me I am now 80% grey and I have a definite solid line of grey through my parting after just 2 weeks post dye.
I had super short naturally dark hair all through my teens and twenties (think Lisa Stansfield if anyone remembers her?) and only grew my hair long in my late 30s.
I get my hair dyed every 6 weeks and use root touch up powders in between whiles but I am becoming increasingly resistant to the dye and my scalp is getting more sensitive with time. I am wondering whether I can go back to short hair and grow out the grey or if my jawline is now too saggy.
Until I decide is it ok if I sit watching with interest?
Cocolepew sorry if I missed it but what toner are you using to achieve that colour?

Cocolepew · 04/01/2018 19:00

There's no toner on atm but the front still is light from bleach, it sems to be mostly on top. I would say the longer lengths now are half bleach and half natural.
Sorry these photos arent great but gives you an idea of the different colours.
I think only the very front at the sides are nearly pure white.

Cocolepew · 04/01/2018 19:03

On the third photo up there^^, my Blackadder ones, does it look like my roots wont be too dark nearer the front?
Is it possible to be darker underneath and naturally lighter on top?

Stickmangate · 04/01/2018 22:05

I've been thinking of going grey. Had grey hair from mid teens started dyeing it 18/19. Think I must be pretty much all grey/white now. It's dyed to what was my natural colour a mid brown.

Some bits look lighter (not had highlights for years) so assume this is where they hair is lighter underneath (does that make sense).

Hair is just below my shoulders and curly (started following the curly girl method).

So I want to start to grow the dye out but don't want to cut it much. What do you think is the best way to transition? Have said to hairdresser that I want to go lighter (gradually scared of big changes). So the regrow doesn't show was much. Thanks

Cocolepew · 05/01/2018 15:14

Are you on facebook Stick?
I follow 3 pages about grey/gray hair.
There are a lot of people who don't cut, I can't help because my hair was short. I do think lightening will be helpful though.
The pages are:
Going Gorgeously Gray
Gray and Proud
Going Grey Gracefully.

Stickmangate · 05/01/2018 15:38

Thanks coco will give them look

Cocolepew · 07/01/2018 21:25

I cut my hair shorter today, cut out most of the old colour.
I'm not sure I like it Blush. Its so much darker than I thought it would be but white at the front and sides.
I'll wash the toner out and see what I think but I could be back on the bleach Hmm

EraArils · 08/01/2018 00:11

Is this the cut you were aiming for Coco? I really like it. What style have you ventured towards now?

Cocolepew · 08/01/2018 07:40

Yes! It annoyed me though hanging there Grin and it was multicoloured Hmm
I've gone back to this but a bit shorter.

the bleach is on…

doctorboo · 10/01/2018 18:44

But @Cocolepew I loved the colour of your hair.
I can't say another thing though as I stripped my hair - hello pale peach - and bunged a light brown on it.
You're going to post a pic of your lovely rebleached locks though aren't you.

@HoosierDaddy I love your hair! How are you feeling about it now?

HoosierDaddy · 10/01/2018 20:34

Happier now doctor, a few days in and 2 washes later, I am getting to grips with it. It's sitting better I think.

coco I am tempted to dye mine a funky grey shade, to kinda even out the patchy grey I have now

Cocolepew · 11/01/2018 09:43

Here I am in all my orangey loveliness Hmm this is 2 goes with lightener. I have a toner/dye on atm so hopefully that will lift it a bit more .
There was no bleach put on the front of my hair. It's light enough.
I'm an idiot. I couldn't figure out why my hair looked so much darker than the last time I went natural but it's not. Its the front and sides which are lighter.
If my hair was even short bob length it would have looked great but short, it looked like I had a haloHalo

Cocolepew · 11/01/2018 09:44

It looks miles more orange than in the photo.

blueskyinmarch · 11/01/2018 10:44

Oh gosh coco. I don't know what to say. Your hair was so much nicer in its natural hue. Live and learn huh?

Cocolepew · 11/01/2018 11:18

I'm much happier with it like this tbh. It feels more me.
I shall leave the thread in shame Grin
Good luck!
