Head shave to go grey

Has anyone gone down the buzz cut route in order to transition to grey?

I am seriously considering it and just bunging a hat on rather than go through another disappointing processing episode and putting off the inevitable or dyeing over it when it turns a weird shade.

I am absolutely comfortable being grey.

So has anyone bitten the bullet and if so how was it?

Anyone else developed a weird yearning for glittery stars on everything? I really want these......

ohhh where is the grey starry sweatshirt from? 😍

Squashit · 18/11/2017 13:48

Next Coco but it is jumper material rather than a sweatshirt.

Nigh on week 3 update on Glitterball

Does this strike you as warm or cool toned grey?

blueskyinmarch · 19/11/2017 11:27

I don’t know about the tone but it looks really lovely.

papersmile · 19/11/2017 12:28

I would say cool toned. Looks great.

HoosierDaddy · 19/11/2017 12:40

Oh squash it is growing out lovely! What a lovely tone. Obvs can't see your face, but from the bits I can see, i'd say it really suits your skin tone and brightens your complexion. Which it should, I guess it stands to reason that natural hair colour suits your skin...

I think I have silver eyeshadow, I will rummage in my make up drawer bag

I had an event yesterday afternoon, and the silvery temples were a bit too much for me 😂 so I sprayed my hair with the L'Oreal Magic Retouch. It is enough to blend the colour a bit more, for now. Getting plenty of compliments on my new shorter do though!

RosyWelshcakes · 19/11/2017 12:58

I think you’re hair is a cool tone.

EraArils · 19/11/2017 13:07

100% cool toned.

Cocolepew · 19/11/2017 13:57

Looks great Squashit.
In the past I have used silver hair cream to help cover some darker hair when it was growing in.
Its a bit messy but worked well.
Its on Amazon.

Cocolepew · 19/11/2017 13:59

Hello!
I love this thread.
Squashit I didn't have the guts to go fully shaved but
I have been embracing my natural colour since Feb last lear. First of all I stopped colouring it, then in August had it cut above chin. Now its short.
But there is still some faded colour (henna) in there. I love the white at the front and its quite a dark steely colour at the sides. the rest as far as I can see is still dark brown with grey streaks.
My hair is curly and these are my inspiration pics

OOOh you lucky thing having curly hair queen

Great pictures. Are you able to post one of your hair? It sounds fabulous.

Queen the hair in your first pic is really like my mum's, her grey is a bit darker though. She has similar glasses too. Love her cut.

queenofthebucket · 21/11/2017 09:24

This is my hair about month ago. The colour is quite mixed.

Thank-you queen a really lovely salt and pewter you have there. How fabulous is the condition of your hair too? What products are you using?

I tried wearing some taupe clothing yesterday and felt frumpy all day. My hair looked dull and it did nothing for my complexion. Another few items to be gifted. On the plus side I am wearing a mid grey today and it looks so so so much better. Out with the old.....

My NYX aria lipstick works well and looks better than when I had dyed hair .I was wondering if it would be a bit off but the boldest, coolest lipsticks really work better.

I am finding that this process is great for simplifying things. I have worked out that because my hair is not evenly grey patterns are out. The colours that do work are black, greys (as long as they are not warm), navy and white. With jewellery it is diamonds or plain silver bold artsy pieces and with make-up keeping it bold and simple works best too. So lips are either bright red or magenta red, eyeliner is black and a tiny bit of a white rather than grey shimmer on the eyes works best.

Shopping is going to be a doodle from now on...

Now all I need is for my hair to get a shift on and grow 😁 so I can get my first hair cut which I posted before but here it is again. Imagine salt and pepper....

Hope everyone else is fine and dandy 🙂

I have been trying to go grey for a while. I am almost there! I have some colour in the ends but if I go for a chin length bob then ai should there . Would love a pixie cut but not brace enough!
This is the top of my head
It will need some brightening. I have no idea whether it is cool or warm toned. I am loving all the pics.

Brave not brace!

Squashit · 21/11/2017 10:34

Wow Myfanwy that hair requires no brightening. From what I can see you have warm toned grey so much so it looks like a pearl blonde. You are so lucky! How was the grow out for you?

Squashit · 21/11/2017 10:46

Aria lipstick and grey clothes..

Squash
Thank you!
It would have taken a lot less time if I hadn't given in to pressure from people to keep dyeing it. I had it dyed a darkish brown and cut fairly short last year . Since then no more dye. All in all this has taken about a year . However , before my last dye job it was pretty grey.

queenofthebucket · 21/11/2017 12:09

Thanks Squash
I use a mixture of products really whatever comes my way that seems to be designed for curly hair. I like Twisted Sister curl creme though.
I'm wondering what colours to wear too, I don't have any taupe so safe there! I moved away from black and grey a couple of years ago I just got bored with it, and now only have blue jeans and I don't even own any lipstick! I wonder should I go back to neutrals?
