Head shave to go grey

Has anyone gone down the buzz cut route in order to transition to grey?

I am seriously considering it and just bunging a hat on rather than go through another disappointing processing episode and putting off the inevitable or dyeing over it when it turns a weird shade.

I am absolutely comfortable being grey.

So has anyone bitten the bullet and if so how was it?

blue I like the third picture but they are all lovely to be honest.

Squashit your hair does look soft and it's a great colour. I do love that natural grey hair can look a thousand different colours in different lights.

Squashit · 15/11/2017 22:18

Thanks Era - you really suit the undercut look.

If anyone has their inspirational photos to add it would be much appreciated. Also hair care advice, make-up and clothes etc

Any advice on how to put up very thick and layered hair? I've tried some ideas from pinterest and youtube but can't seem to get them to work. My hair is just so heavy that it just slides out of the grips and the layers just stick out all over the place. Plaits work ok but getting bored with that (I have to tie my hair up for work). I am just using standard style kerbi grips - should I get some different ones?
The other problem is that with all the grey the messy bun style do's look more mad cat lady than stylish up do!
Loving Era's undercut - sooo tempting just to cut it all off again!

getdownshep · 16/11/2017 12:03

I love mine, it does have a lot of different colours in it. I take more care of my hair now than I did when it was a bleached dry mess😀

getdown your hair is absolutely lovely. Hair envy.

After a wobbly start to the day thinking whether I had done the right thing and looking at ash blonde processing I took myself out for a walk and potter and found two perfect grey jumpers in charity shops. That cheered me up no end. I then found some organic coconut hair oil and decided what I actually needed was a bit of pampering.

I have and never would suit blonde I wouldn’t mind! This is not an easy process what ever way you do it.

I was asked for the first time by a woman who seems to thinks she knows me and for who I have no idea who she is, why I had cut my hair. Well I did my typical whiffle about not wanting to keep dyeing it when it was obvious now that wasn’t my natural colour whilst I was packing things in my bag, looked up and clocked her own dye job with badger.

Sometimes I put my foot in it...

Meh, you were truthful!

Cocolepew · 16/11/2017 15:12

I find I really suit black again. I naturally had very dark brown hair and black brows/lashes. Im very, very pale.
When I was dyeing it dark the older I got the worse I looked in black.
I also find that a slash or boat neck suits me best now.

Cocolepew · 16/11/2017 15:18

Era your hair looks fantastic in that picture.
I had an undercut a few years ago, the sides are my natural colour and the rest is bleached.

EraArils · 16/11/2017 17:25

In that picture the top/long bits were bleached and in terrible condition. The sides were obviously my natural grey. I buzzed it off about a week after getting that cut. The bleached hair was just too yellow next to the cool toned natural grey, I just couldn't get the bleach bits ashy enough.

Cocolepew I've found the exact same thing with regards to black, the colour has to be nearer to my face to have an impact. You have great hair and lovely eyes, well one lovely eye. Grin

😁

Hope the haircut went well today sky.

I have been for my haircut. It is hard to tell if it looks much different. She used a silver shampoo to take out some of the yellowness and managed by some weird hairdresser trickery to cut off loads but still leave it longish! I will post the one I took last week and one from today to compare. No daylight so the lighting is not great.

Gosh I don’t know if it is just the lighting but the colour looks very different. Will take another in the daytime tomorrow. Hairdresser reckons it will be pretty much all my natural colour by March.

Back and side views. Sorry. Picture hogging!

It looks great bluesky, are you happy?
That's my best eye era Grin.
I was thinking about colour today. I bleach my hair and then put a pearly platinum over it . Its very white, but when my own colour comes through the dyed bits look yellow next to it Confused

blueskyinmarch · 16/11/2017 18:50

I love it. It is not too different but we have a bit of a plan for the next few cuts. I don’t really want a radical change of style but I want all the blond cut out.

Squashit · 16/11/2017 21:26

Looks great blue 👍🏻

After my cut at weekend I can really see the lighter colours around my face/ears. It's especially noticeable in the mirror in the cat, so tried to take a snap of it.

Blue out hairdresser have the same idea as to what they’re doing with our hair even down to the cut and when they think we’ll be out natural grey.

I have to say this thread has been fantastic. Thank you.

And to all of the ladies who posted their picture. Thank you. You are all gorgeous.

JoyceDivision · 17/11/2017 06:42

EraArils your eyebrows have stolen the thread! They are amazing! I have brenvy (brow-envy)

EraArils · 17/11/2017 13:53

JoyceDivision love the name. Brimming with pride for being the recipient of brenvy.

Thank you. I have literally purchased every single brow product on the market in the pursuit of the perfect brow, glad it has paid off Grin

EraArils · 17/11/2017 13:58

This woman is really embracing colour. Her salt and pepper hair looks lovely too and I like the cut.

I love the 1st picture, with grey hair obviously. The second one is a little too neat for me I think but it's a lovely style. The 3rd one would make me feel taller and that is never a bad thing, it is a lovely colour.

Era love that first style too. I am not a neat hair person either.

Hoosier lovely sparkles in your hair 🙂

Rosy thank-you and I am glad you are finding it helpful.

Feeling much more positive today. I have had a bug so that was affecting my mood but woke up today seeing progress. My hair is looking darker as it grows at the moment - which I am ok with. What is really great is how shiny and thick the regrowth is. My hair never looked shiny when I coloured it.

Some more photos. My DH voiced his surprise this morning that my natural hair is weirdly making me look younger and not older as he had imagined. Again unprompted!
