Head shave to go grey

Has anyone gone down the buzz cut route in order to transition to grey?

I am seriously considering it and just bunging a hat on rather than go through another disappointing processing episode and putting off the inevitable or dyeing over it when it turns a weird shade.

I am absolutely comfortable being grey.

So has anyone bitten the bullet and if so how was it?

I’m well on my way to going to my now natural grey. I’m doing it the cowards way though with lightening and cutting each time I go to the hairdressers. She reckons by Feb I’ll be grey. I’m looking forward to it.

I’ve been 3 months box free and it’s becoming noticeable. DH of 32 years, never comments on my appearance negatively, but he did say “I like it a little longer” when I asked him about it, which is what’s putting me off having a pixie. He would be fine no matter what and, yes, it’s my head, but I did ask for his opinion.

I find that root spray really useful at this stage, not every day, but if I’m going out, it does the trick.

You guys are inspiring me to stick with it. Loving the photos. I’m the type of person. Who thinks “ahhhh stuff it” and relents, I cant even grow my fringe out cause it pisses me off.

Absolutely loving this thread. My natural hair is mousy and fine, dyed a reddy brown every 4 weeks. It used to be dyed every 6 weeks, then 5, now had to go to 4. The colour is lovely to start, then goes very "flat". I have been blonde, both highlighted and dyed. I have been considering going back blonder as I could leave longer between colours as the grey would not so noticeable, although my husband loves me hair redder (he has a Gillian Anderson crush!). I recently went on a course with work where the trainer was rocking a lovely natural grey bob, but her hair was lovely and thick. I think after Xmas I will go blonder and a bit shorter and see how it goes from there. I honestly don't know how grey I would be, but my roots show at about 4 weeks, and they are pretty grey! I will attach some photos of me darker and blonder to see what you all think, as to whether I could rock this grey look. It does worry me that my hair is so fine.

I am having one of those ‘not sure I like my own colour coming through ‘ days.. I think this is all part and parcel of the adjustment period so am going to let it just wash over me.

I didn’t understand before going down this route that the hair colour looks different with only small changes in length and light. I have given myself my first trim with clippers to offset the dandelion effect-just round the sides and it looks more balanced now.

The problem I'm having is that my hair is in a long bob, which is a style that suits. I don't particularly like long grey hair but don't want to go short, so what to do?

Cheek length asymmetrical short one that you can grown out easily if you don’t like it might be a possibility Horsemad or a more layered bob.... imagine them silver.

Hmm, I like those but my face is chubby and round so not sure they'd work for me.

Short hair with height on the crown and clipped at the sides visually sorts that out. This sort of thing

That's lovely, not sure I'm brave enough to go that short though, even though I used to wear it like that (was much younger then!).

You have got to go with what makes you happy and comfortable in life 🙂

Just a thought Horsemadbut how about having grey mallen streak put in along the front of your hairline and seeing how you get on with that. Easy to dye over if it is not for you and you can keep the length.

I too have been doing a little investigating, having a buzz cut means ALL hairstyles are an option for you. I trimmed around my ears a few weeks ago and my DH trimmed the wispy bits at the back, on the hairline. Can't be doing with a mullet.

I like the short crop pixie pictures and I'm nearly there to be honest.

My hairdresser appointment is tomorrow. These are the styles I am liking. My hair is already in a short bob so these shouldn’t be too different. I know some of these are not natural grey pics but I still like the styles.

Squashit That is great choice. I do love the messy short crop. Mine is nearly there now. I woke up with bedhead this morning and was really happy about it.

I've had an undercut before when it was bleach blonde, you know to blend in the grey.
