Question: if you are over 35, would you wear a bikini like this?

Dh has given me this itsy bitsy bikini. and expects me to wear it in public (when we go on holiday). I am wondering whether I can pluck up the courage.

Dh seems to have overlooked the fact that I am not a tanned 21-year-old Australian model with a Brazilian wax: I am actually a pale-skinned 36-year old and only 5ft 2, with a Caesarean scar. Size 8/10 but nevertheless have a few wobbly bits.

I am very flattered that dh thinks I look good in it, but it is ridiculously skimpy.

So, what would you do? Should I just get into the holiday spirit, wear it and flaunt it, or will I look ridiculous?

(Dds are 2 and 4 so I won't exactly be lounging by the pool on this holiday; I'll be chasing round after them.)

As ever I'm in a minority of one. I think it's lovely and if he says you have the body to wear it and who are we to disagree what's the problem? And what's wrong with pleasing your husband?

I think your DH obnly expects you to wear it in your room, tbh.

Aloha · 13/04/2007 22:18

Its awful you could get something tasteful and sexy if you choose it yourself and above all if it fits you well

hatwoman · 13/04/2007 22:23

cod - your post of 22: 11 - wonderful wonderful wonderful. (maybe I should send it to my cousin, shortly to move to Bicester. she's a 3rd wife. (but husband is a judge...)

I think you're Dh obviously wants you to wear to something sexy, and men can only think of obvious and sexy rather than tastefully sexy.

My Dh if given the choice would have me always wear mini skirt and stilettos. He cannot understand why that is inappropriste for the school run (or anywhere actually).

Suggest another bikini which is sexy, but not porn queen. He'll probaly be happy with that.

Be proud he thinks you can carry it off!!

Wuxiapian · 13/04/2007 22:35

I can't believe you're even condsidering it, butter. It's indecent. I wouldn't appreciate my 8 yr old son being subjected to it, either.

Blondilocks · 13/04/2007 22:41

That's tiny! Some of them on there are REEEEAAAALLLY tiny, not to mention see through! Fair play to anyone who has the guts to wear one of the teeny ones, although I'm not sure that they would be considered that highly by other beach goers.

I wouldn't wear one myself & I'm only 23 & quite toned, but just not confident enough. Maybe if I was at a villa/apartment with a private pool then I would but not in front of loads of ppl.

It's good that he thinks you look good enough to wear it. Probably not practical for running around after the kids! Maybe you could wear it under a sarong some of the time so that he knows you're wearing it but everyone else doesn't get too good a view?

SmileysPeoples · 13/04/2007 22:41

On holiday last year there was a women on the beach who had a number of bikinis like this. She wore them with heels and full make up.

We called her the porn star. We really thought she was.

She wasn't with a man, but had an adorable little boy. He didn't seem phased by it, although everyone else was staring.

At lunch time she put on and all in one lace cat suit to go to the beach club restaurant

If nothing else you'll give the other tourits somethig to chat and snort about.

Blondilocks · 13/04/2007 22:44

I thought my bikini was little... that one makes mine look like big granny pants!

Don't really have a problem seeing people in thong swimwear (maybe not massive people though). Loads of people in Spain wore it.

chocolateface · 13/04/2007 22:46

Smileyspeoples, didn't you like my cat suit?

SmileysPeoples · 13/04/2007 22:48

No but DH did!!

Couldn't take his eyes off her. We were all tutting saying 'doesn't she look awful?' and he was nodding, going 'yeah yeah' with his tongue hanging out.

hermykne · 13/04/2007 22:50

why didnt he just buy you the underwear equvilant for fun!

SmileysPeoples · 13/04/2007 22:51

Personally I thouhgt I looked much sexier in my white underwired bikini from next.

But do you want to impress the other women on the beach with your good taste or make mens tongues hang out??

hmm a tricky one.

I think under the sarong to please him and show willing is a good idea. and buy another one.

MrsApron · 13/04/2007 22:56

oh my god read the contributors pages

This is not just a bikini site
this is a readers wives bikini site.

themoon66 · 13/04/2007 23:02

God I would never wear that!!!

I'm 47 and DO wear bikinis abroad though... but only Bravissimo ones for 34DD norks.

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2007 23:05

dp has just seen my looking at this site, he then skipped upstairs to the bathroom to swill some mouthwash before calling down from the bedroom for me to hurry upstairs in his come hither voice!

Mercy · 13/04/2007 23:10

Have only read the OP but imo I wouldn't be seen dead (or alive) in a bikini full stop!

I just don't get it; it's wearing a bra and knickers in public. What's the difference between the beach and the high street?
