kwik, I think we need pictures of your new earrings! Xmas Smile

FrustratedFrugal · 30/12/2017 05:29

Kwick my fingers and toes are crossed for you!

And thanks all for lovely lipstick comments, this year I’ve really started loving all shades of red. I’ve finished 7 lipsticks, one eye palette, two compact foundations, and several blushers this year!

Leaving for a trip later today, so updating my annual totals now:

I’ve tracked purchases for the first 6 months, during that time I bought 23 new cosmetics items, but probably more than doubled that during my trips to Bali and on our summer trip to the Baltics (local drugstores are always a compelling destination to me and I’m fully stocked up with sheet masks and moisturizers).

Thanks to the DIY advent calendar, I’ve completed at least 35 products this December (25 samples and 10 full sizes)

My annual total is 111 products used up!
Net balance is negative, I have a new empty shelf in the bathroom!

Thanks for the great company and happy end of the year to all ✨✨✨

Hello all! Have to admit to a bit of a relapse re: beauty spending recently....willpower died several deaths in run up to Christmas, which included a trip to munich Xmas markets and obligatory spending in german Apotheke (basically french pharmacy brands) and a pilgrimage to DM (sort of like a superdrug/boots/b&m hybrid). Acquired a caudalie the de vigne gift set as well as handcream, foot gel, a couple of liquid lipsticks and couple of mascaras.....like Frugal, for me local drugstores when on holiday = moth to a flame! 😊
Post Xmas, I have acquired a couple of knockdown gift sets, including the big No 7 set from Boots and a clarins eau de ressourcante set with full size fragrance plus body scrub and moisturI services. Such is life, first world problem and all that 😁
On the plus side, i have finally finished a bottle of estee lauder beyond paradise. Don't want to throw the bottle out because it is so pretty....unfortunately I never really loved the smell of this on me, and when I added it to my use up list I found that it had turned slightly and just didn't smell right on my skin so I have been using for it as an air freshener in the bathroom....

Bougouis mascara used up today. To be honest I probably could have got rid weeks ago. But finally chucked it today.

Strawberryfield12 · 30/12/2017 18:31

Lots of luck @kwick! I have to confess I didn't have a clue what FRER was, when we were TTC the most popular search result on Amazon was "Clearblue" Grin

Frustrated I am very impressed with the amount of lipsticks you have used this year! And they look lovely on you!
I used to use lipsticks when I was in my twenties, but for about last 10-15 years, it has been only lip balms. Now, thanks to advent calendars and beauty boxes I am proud owner of several. I have that irritating habit of opening a lipstick out of curiosity, try once on and then go "Oh, I don't use lipsticks, do I?" So wtf did I even open it, I could have given it somebody who would appreciate a nice lippy!!

ememem84 · 30/12/2017 19:41

I want to find my perfect lipstick for every day and my perfect red next year. Ideally they’ll be the same! I rarely wear it. But think it may help with the looking more put together.

Can you get lipstick samples?

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 30/12/2017 19:55

em can I recommend Revlon? One of the lipstick threads on here suggested Revlon really red and cherries in snow (I think; away and don’t have them with me!). Love them, last ages and such nice quality. Don’t fade in middle leaving red rim either. I wear them as daily lipstick and love them. Maybe even lipstick queen frugal recommended them?

I might have gone a bit OTT in Clinique sale but let’s brush over that and celebrate finishing;
Body shop ginger shower gel from 2 years ago!
Nude facial oil
Weird handcream sample
Pineapple shaped lip balm (5 years old)
Travel sized conditioner

ememem84 · 30/12/2017 20:04

Oooh thanks pinkie

Revlon are also fairly purse friendly aren’t they? I’d hate to spend spend then realise they’re either not right or I don’t wear! Such a waste.

I am (still) listing after Chanel rouge noir nail polish. But seeing as I a) usually get gel nails and b) am on maternity leave posh polish seems like a waste.

Maybe as my payday treat once I go back to work......

CantChoose · 31/12/2017 08:12

emem I second another - cherries is a great reckon shade. It's been around for years but is a pretty reliable suits-all.

I finished the filorga mask last night, once I'd cut the tube I had enough for a full face in the end. Ran out by my jaw which I did with a clay mask as that's where all my horrible spots lurk.

Actually dreamt last night that my nuxe oil sample size had become full size somehow and I was more annoyed that I wouldn't finish it quickly than having a magical bonus bigger size Grin

DragonNoodleCake · 31/12/2017 13:47

My head is back in the game, this coming year I'm going to keep a running list of used and a running list of purchases.

I've started this morning (Hogmanay counts doesn't it?)

Used:

  1. Redken 1 litre All soft shampoo
  2. Schwarzkopf sachet hair repair
  3. Avon ageless cream sachet

Purchased:
Zero

IPokeBadgers · 31/12/2017 14:08

Hello all! Another couple of empties to report:

A full size loccitane shear butter handcream in vanilla bouquet. Huge 150ml so has taken forever to use....and I have another two large tubes in different fragrancesizes in the stash, along with easily another dozen small tubes of handcream from many different brands. I MUST NOT BUY anymore hand cream. ..possibly ever! Lol
Also finished one of my stash of deodorants - bog standard nivea stick. Really going to try to re-commit to limited spending/acquisition in 2018!

IPokeBadgers · 31/12/2017 17:37

And just finished a small sample of Penhaligons Vaara....love this and have a big, unopened bottle of it in the stash.
pleasant
Hope everything has a pleasant New Year's Eve, whatever and wherever that is. Thank you to everyone who is on this thread, it's been great fun chatting this year, looking forward to more of it in 2018!

ProseccoMamam · 31/12/2017 18:06

I have to report an empty disaster.

Toddler has drawn a picture in the hallway using my Kat Von D red lipstick. It took me nearly 40 minutes to clean and I was on the verge of tears the whole time.

Note to self: don't leave your unzipped bag in the hall.

Silver linings - I will now have to rummage through my back up stores for a red lippy to use tomorrow morning but deep down I will know that only Kat Von D has my perfect shade of red.

IPokeBadgers · 31/12/2017 19:48

Oh Prosecco! I am sorry for your loss, that definitely is not how we want to use up our beloved products! Are there sufficient funds to replace the lippy in the dark days of January or are you on a no spend month?

Blush
ProseccoMamam · 31/12/2017 21:07

@IPokeBadgers I could buy one, but I'm not allowed! I have so many lip sticks and glosses and stains! I've made a pact with myself not to buy new things unless I've ran out completely, and right now I have lots and lots of red lippys to use upSad

ememem84 · 01/01/2018 00:28

I “used up” some hand cream, nail polish and a glittery shimmery after sun today. Popped them in a little bag and gave them to my friends daughter. She’s 3 and super into princesses. The hand cream was in a pink glittery tube the nail polish was glittery and the shimmer after sun was...well shimmery. Happy little friend!

kwick · 01/01/2018 10:52

Happy New Year!!!!

Thanks for all the good luck messages 😘

@FrustratedFrugal I love your stats!!!
Well done - negative balance!!!

@ememem84 perhaps try one of the Maybelline col-lab with Gigi Hadid - Tati speaks highly of them.

Happy New Year everyone! I'm not sure what my next focus is going to be, but I absolutely must be more frugal all round this year, so not buying unnecessary 'stuff' is my number one goal. My stash is definitely smaller which is a good thing, but I need to reduce it further again really.

Well done on some excellent progress!

chloechloe · 01/01/2018 14:03

Oh no prosecco! You poor thing!

Happy new year everyone!

chloechloe · 01/01/2018 14:10

I have some unexpected empties. We're currently at my PIL where I keep a toiletries bag. I've just discovered 5 empties in it - my PIL don't recycle plastic and I felt guilty chucking the empties in the bin so was planning to take them home to recycle but never did. They count surely, even if they're not in my at home stash!?

So:

  1. Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream 100ml

  2. Dermalogica pre-cleanse 30ml

  3. Liz Earle C&P 100ml

  4. Garnier Caffeine Eye Roll-on

  5. Elemis Neck and Bust cream 15ml - this has gone off. I tried smearing it on my feet but couldn't hear the smell so in the bin it goes.

ememem84 · 01/01/2018 19:59

Empty! Jar of Epsom salts and a bottle of purple radox.

Currently in the bath. And dumped it all in. So. Many. Bubbles!!!!

Choccogoingcuckoo · 01/01/2018 20:28

Hello, I'd love to join you all Wine .

I'm trying to save money and set myself a challenge of using up all my toiletries and make up.

After a christmas haul of Elemis I really have no excuse to buy any kind of facial cleanser and toner (also have full size Clarins to open as well).

I've got a shit load of hair products (do these go out of date??)

Lots of eyeshadows and mascara.

Does anyone else find the more expensive the foundation the quicker it runs out. I've been using Bobbi Brown, which has been nice on my dry menopausal skin, but it doesn't last long at all.

Any recommendations for a cheaper alternative that's nice on hormonal mentalpausal skin?
