Oh dear Strawberry! How long have you been using the retinol and how often? And do you put it on your neck?
I've heard very good things about La roche posay cicaplast baume for dry and sensitive skin. (Not to be enabling!)

chloechloe · 02/12/2017 22:04

That doesn't sound too good strawberry, sounds like it could be the retinol.

I'm liking my two advents so far, it's such a treat having something to open. I've made a chocolate one for DD1, DH and me but haven't managed to get a single one so far!

Up to 29 tonight, Kypris Beauty Elixir sample. In an attempt to finish it I poured the remainder out into my hand instead of using it one drop at a time (it's basically rose oil I think) and so have about 3 days' worth on my face Grin

usernameinfinito · 02/12/2017 22:25

Wowzers @woodhill that is impressive- they take ages to use up!

@Strawberryfield12 ouch that sounds painful! I have to stay away from Retinol as am still TTC (FET just did unsuccessful) and this is not meant to help.

I may gone to The Ordinary shop in search of a Christmas pressie for my SIL and picked up a foundation for myself

Usernameinfinito you are my role model - and never mind the slipups. I know you’ll enjoy the stuff...

Strawberry I just read a great essay on Retin-A (what it feels like) in the New Yorker. Hope your face will soon be fine.

Still lounging about but soon I will prep my face with today’s advent treat, some Missha Ultra Water Full gel cream, the finish with yesterday’s with Vichy Idealia illuminating base. Both single use sample sachets.

Is anyone else feeling really stressed out? Great things are happening to my career and I am usually pretty happy about it, but this week I am facing a midweek trip abroad, a big deadline soon after, plus I have to organize the work holiday party. And there is a major family birthday today. Add crap weather and no time for yoga, and everything starts to feel pretty soul-crushing.

FrustratedFrugal · 03/12/2017 07:48

Kwick sending some major fertility boosting vibes your way ~~~~
(several people I know have recently had a healthy child after a very long battle and lots of frustrating setbacks)

FrustratedFrugal · 03/12/2017 07:58

And please let me fantasize about advent calendars for a moment. I’m fully stocked up on skincare and need nothing but I would LOVE the Lippie Countdown or the Diptyque calendar... 🙏🏻😍

FrustratedFrugal · 03/12/2017 08:01

Sorry, messed up writing (dead link), meant the NYX Lippie Countdown. NYX Bloody Mary is one of my favorite red lipsticks, and NYX Tea Rose is the understated power mauve.

kwick · 03/12/2017 08:05

@FrustratedFrugal I know it sounds counter-intuitive but at these chaotic times it pays to: stop, breathe, and then carry on. I have been doing 3 minute mindfulness meditations now for a few weeks and it really does help. I am using the Aura app.
Hang in there!

Thanks @FrustratedFrugal - it really is a long road - that was treatment 10... but I am not yet ready to give up!

Oh and the reason I came back so soon I am reporting an executive decision to chuck the Rimmel wonder'fully real mascara (pink one)... I am so sick of the transference and I have a mini mascara at the ready to try from one of my advents.

Sorry to hear about your FET kwick. I have some idea of what you're going through as both my little girls are frosties. I hope the new year brings you more luck.

That's an impressive list infinito - lots of perfume used up!

Sounds like you've got a lot on frugal - I think it often all gets too much at this time of year! I'm starting to feel a bit stressed too, I thought I was quite organised on the Xmas front but now that December is here I'm starting to feel tune is running out!

RJnomore1 · 03/12/2017 08:34

Ahhh kwik sorry to hear your news. Lots of good luck vibes coming your way.

I bought my 18yo the nyx lippie countdown she was very excited. She's away at uni so not seen any contents. Seemed good value at £2 a lippie though and she likes. Nyx.

Username that's some lost. Lots of perfumes too. I don't use that much perfume.

Finally - can someone recommend a retin-a/retinal/retinoid cream please?

Strawberryfield12 · 03/12/2017 09:09

kwick sorry to hear about FET. Flowers don’t give up, it’s meant to happen sooner or later, right?!

baileys I’ve been using it for about 6-8 weeks 1-2 times a week now. I put all my face products on neck as well. Since I had been using it for so long time and didn’t have any issues, I initially didn’t even think about retinol. It will be some time I will use again though. It’s much better now, can only feel on touch dry patches, visually it’s gone.

frustrated reading that essay made me realise that I have had a very light reaction. I’ve never had any issues with the skin, so it felt like an end of the world at some point. Sounds like you have few stressful days ahead. Can you identify the closest day when things will calm down? For me it helps to think that I only have to get through X amount of time and then it will be back to normal.

kwick · 03/12/2017 09:13

Thanks ladies 😘

@DragonNoodleCake you ok? Not seen you in ages!

I have an empty:

  • Caudalie Vinosource moisturising sorbet 15ml: second sample I have tried. Liked it better this time but too light for these fricking freezing months!

curragh · 03/12/2017 10:55

Kwick so sorry to hear this cycle was unsuccessful Thanks

Frustrated I am also stressed out at the moment. Work is highly pressurised (LOTS to do before Christmas break), I have some ongoing health issues (waiting to hear if I will have surgery before he or in January) but worst of all DC1 answered the door to a courier yesterday who was delivering his Santa Claus present Xmas Angry The box had a huge picture of the contents (a go kart) so now we're into a convoluted explanation which leaves me with no idea what to get him for Christmas. This go kart is all he has wanted for months...

In better news I finished the following yesterday but let's not mention the splurge in Boots
71. Max Factor Masterpiece mascara - waterproof. Holy grail mascara for me, I have terrible problems with mascara running & flaking but this one doesn't budge
72. Clinique pressed powder. This was ancient- I bought it when I was in Uni and I'm now 36 Shock

I keep meaning to try the Headspace app or similar but there never seems to be enough hours in the day

CantChoose · 03/12/2017 12:42

Oh Kwick I skim read your post earlier and didn't see about the FET until I saw the other comments. I'm so, so sorry. Flowers

I've been stressed lately too, frugal. All moderately minor things but a lot at once. Some due to get better but some worse... oh well. I find a walk outdoors really helps clear my head for a bit but with the weather and dark evenings it's not always easy :/

kwick · 03/12/2017 19:59

@curragh what a fcuker about the go-kart Sad
I do my daily 3 min meditation on the bus on the way to work

Once again thanks ladies 😘 it is shite but spending the day with the new family puppy has helped

Three more things killed:

White Company shampoo/conditioner - took about a week to use though was tiny. On my Xmas 25.

A deodorant - counts as it is aerosol and when I moved I had 7!

And a foam shower thing, not on the list but found separately. was lovely, by Ritual, but just more clutter!

Not doing that well on my Xmas 25. Next to finish from that is the Vit C serum. But I am also hopeful of finishing some Bio Oil and my Argan oil hair oil, though I love it so will be upset, but I have two other hair oils, so using it up is important.

chloechloe · 03/12/2017 22:41

How annoying about the go cart curragh, maybe he'll have forgotten about it in a couple of weeks' time? At our nursery last week (in Germany) a little boy pointed out a picture of Santa to his mum, who replied very loudly in front of my little girl "There is no Father Christmas" Angry Angry Angry FFS!

I'm up to 30. The last little bottle in an Aromatherapy Associates shower oil selection.

kwick · 04/12/2017 07:18

@chloechloe that is just NOT on!!! AngryAngryAngry

I have an empty:

  • Yves Rocher Sebo Vegetal pore minimising serum: I did not like this at all - do not think it did anything and I did not like the smell. I used up ony KP upper arms
OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 04/12/2017 08:17

Two more today, both full size

  1. Clinique toner - a staple for me, although I now have an elemis one to try so won't be rebuying until that's done.

  2. Clinique all about eyes. Really like it and I have a mini so opened it to use.

curragh · 04/12/2017 13:26

Chloe that's terrible, did your little girl hear? Unfortunately DS is too old to forget what he has seen so will be spending a small fortune to upgrade the Go Kart!

I'm looking for recommendations for a new balm cleanser (in the style of Emma Hardie but preferably less £££). Has anyone used Clinique Take the Day Off?

chloechloe · 04/12/2017 13:36

Yes she heard curragh but as she's not quite 3 I think it didn't really sink in. Sounds like the go cart will get expensive 🙈

I haven't used the Clinique Balm. Something I tried and liked was a coconut oil cleanser, I think from Cult Beauty. Not quite the same as it doesn't have the nice scent you get with Emma Hardie but it's really good.

OutToGetYou · 04/12/2017 13:43

"I'm looking for recommendations for a new balm cleanser (in the style of Emma Hardie but preferably less £££). Has anyone used Clinique Take the Day Off?"

Have you tried Lush Ultra Bland? I'm not usually a Lush fan but it is pretty good.

FrustratedFrugal · 04/12/2017 18:56

curragh what a letdown re : pressie Sad

Thank you everyone for the stress busting tips - they do help. —So does killing time on Twitter when the world is on fire— I think the worst is over, next year I promise I will decline more nvitations.

Today’s advent, some pore deep cleansing stuff from Korea

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 04/12/2017 19:47

kwick Flowers so sorry. Hope you still have hope that all will work for you.
I shall post some cosmetic haul loveliness to divert your thoughts for a second.
In the positive corner; finished a great Bougois pot concealer and passed on a too-peach lipstick to a friend and 2 lip balms to DC.
On the less positive note; I’m opening my advent calendar full of perfume samples (from my stash- channeling frugal from last year!) and the Sephora haul. Pics to follow.....
