I think the Perfume Society might be loosing their way a bit Sad

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/09/2017 13:30

Aura is very odd. Almost fascinating in its oddness. Toothpaste and spice. What's that all about then?

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 08/09/2017 13:37

SOTD is Ghost Deep Night for a bit of nostalgia for me. I wore this all through my pregnancy and when the twins were first born. I stopped wearing it after DD passed away but started wearing it again on and off when DS was around one. He says he remembers it being what i always wore and says its 'Mum smell'

SeptemberWhenItComes · 08/09/2017 13:39

Goodness, aura is disgusting IMHO, but I didn't expect too much from it!

Zoflora PIAM? I am loving your work. DH cleaned all our bins with pink grapefruit Zoflora the other day and FloofyCat has been appreciatively lying in the lid of it every day since. I'm proud of them both Grin

I need someone to restrain me - whilst investigating Ellie Saab Girl for Now, I have discovered the Perfume Parlour do an almond and macaron Jo Malone perfume (think based on candle scent rather than perfume). Almond, coconut, cherries, vanilla. I know it will be horrifically sweet and JMs never last on my skin but I want it like Violet Beauregard wanted a golden ticket Blush

Tell me it's a step too far, people!

SeptemberWhenItComes · 08/09/2017 13:43

OneNight Sorry for your loss - I think it's very brave to re-visit something associated with sorrow and make it a comforting and reassuring memory for your DS.

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 13:44

Herbs are becoming very fashionable in perfume, especially mint. Personally I can't do mint unless it is in a curry (with fenugreek leaves).

Have been reading the reviews of Olympea intense and not-intense, loads of conflict over which is sweeter - saltier interesting. Several hours in Intense is not sweet on me, rich and warm amber, rather good.

Watching Irma and hoping DB (resides in Florida) and his family will be ok

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 13:59

Oh I love ghost deep night. It's so warm and comforting. I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

MrsMacNally · 08/09/2017 14:57

PiaM - your DP is a man after my own heart when it comes to not cleaning. This wouldn't stop me wafting a nice smelling disinfectant around ineffectually though... Grin

Sept/Flood - suspect you would've loved Calm's magnificent recent creation.

I quite like a spot of mint - Nuit Etoile anyone? And isn't there a surprise mint note in Angel?

Was back sniffing the Primark Private Collection mega-cheapies earlier. Not convinced anything other than AN quite hits the spot for me but has anyone else tried? The 6 x roller ball set was tempting to split up for teen stocking fillers.

Flowers for One Note. Hope perfume is a small source of comfort.

Pest - best wishes for your family this weekend. Scary times.

Hope your db is ok pest x

OCSockOrphanage · 08/09/2017 17:15

I am in a total tizz! I haven't really worked for years, and am getting bored at home with SockDog. So this week, I was absent-mindedly leafing through the local sits vac online and something interesting popped up, roughly relevant. I drafted a quick cover letter and uploaded it with a CV and sat back to read about scent, expecting nothing. I have got an interview, by phone, next week. It's a project management role in the education field, and it's a maternity cover for a year. Yikes, gulping like a goldfish, in a sea of Iris de Nuit.

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 17:23

Ohhhhhh! How exciting!

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 18:12

Congratulations OCSock bit of a coup there

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/09/2017 18:26

How exciting OC!

Just been out to order dd's school books (£200 worth Shock that's a lot of perfume samples up the swanny) but came back in to smell Hyacinth Zoflora infusing the house. Grin

The Giv III didn't last long on my skin (I think, sadly, my bottle is past its best) so am now in Paris Premieres Roses which, as someone upthread said (3 possibly?) it smells more like original Paris than new reformulated Paris does. (oh, reminds me, smelled Paul Smith Rose yesterday, now't special, could have been Yardley)

GreenPolishToGo · 08/09/2017 19:15

Ooh, Sock very well done you. Alas, that you cannot stun the interviewer with scent over the phone. Best of luck.

OneNight I am so very sorry about your little girl. I do hope Ghost Deep Night brings back happy memories of her for you. Flowers

Pest hope all is well with your brother and his family. Knope it sounds like you made exactly the right decision to resign. Some situations just ain't fixable.

SOTD has gone from the ridiculous to the sublime. I started off with a sample of Nina Ricci Luna. Yuck! Overdose of jasmine = appalling halitosis to me but I do have trouble with a lot of jasmine notes. After a thorough scrub I went with 4160 Tuesdays Up The Apples and Pears which is gorgeously boozy, smoky and woody with a sweet tang of apple. Very huff-able and very autumnal. I think I need a 30ml of this one.

MrsMac how did I forget Tea for Two on the autumn list? Yes, it's perfect. I haven't tried Traversee du Bosphore but it sounds like it's one I need to sniff sometime.

Knope and September DD has a big bottle of Addict which she lets me borrow. Grin It's the modern one and I gather that's quite different from the original. Any idea which is better, oh Addict experts?

Bluebell I need to get round to trying Shalimar properly. I'm so fond of Shalimar Parfum Initial that I've neglected the real one. And yes MrsMac was right, I did have the 4160 Tuesdays Advent calendar last year and it was a delight. It had either 24 or 25 of their lovely generous sample bottles wrapped in different colours of tissue paper and numbered 1 - 24 (or 25) and it came with a pretty handkerchief and a copy of Four Fragrant Mysteries - Sarah Mac's Golden Age style crime stories inspired by four of the perfumes. That was the basic Advent calendar - you could also get one made up of small bottles (9mls I think) and a really luxurious one made up of FBs. Well worth stalking the 4160 website for.

Ojoj have you tried L'Air du Temps or Yardley Jade? I think they are both light, fresh and very beautiful.

PIAM someone needs to invent a self-cleaning shower. Now.

Aura sounds interesting...Might have to investigate it, possibly from a distance...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 08/09/2017 19:31

Nice one Sock. I think there's a few of us here working in education, isn't there. Wonder if there's a particular link with perfume there... ponders

Flowers One night... how old is DS now? Very moving to hear that the smell is so evocative for you both.

SOTD was Oxford. Growing on me. Lemon and man. Mmm.

I have been regularly occaisionaly trying to find signs of a 4160 Tuesdays advent calendar but Shock at a FB version. How much would that cost?! It seems like such a gap on the market though - I keep scanning the lists and reviews but Jo Malone seems to be the only scent focused one...

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/09/2017 19:53

SOTD was JM Wood Sage. Now in pjs and a dash of Tauer Lonestar Memories.

oc great news about your interview. cheap, that's another one for the Venn diagram.

Have lovely weekends. Does Strictly start tomorrow?

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 19:57

cheap Ds is 13 now and a handsome , strapping young man who is full of kindness. Unfortunately, due to a number of things thatall added up, he no longer lives with me and hasn't for a few years but he is well cared for and loved where he does live and we are in constant touch. I should say, he wasn't 'removed' from my care as it were, i had him placed elsewhere voluntarily as it was the best thing for him and for me as well. I have multiple medical issues both physical and mental that mean I can't give him the care he needs and he is autistic himself which obviously added to the difficulties we faced as a family. He is a wonderful young man and that's in large part tot he family he lives with who love him like one of their own and i will forever be grateful to them

OCSockOrphanage · 08/09/2017 20:31

Thanks everyone. I can't decide whether I am elated or terrified. I did look (belatedly) at the company's website (yes, I know I should have checked it first) and actually, it seems that their interests and mine align and overlap very directly. Heavens, it is more than five years since I even sent a letter to apply for a job, and I told them in line 5 that I am 61. Looking at the pictures of their employees, I shall be grandma and playing the age diversity card. FFS, we shall have to rehome SockDog; I don't suppose they will like dogs enough to have one in the office, that would be too much to hope for.

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 20:35

That's lovely to hear one

Squashit · 08/09/2017 20:35

Usually I wear something like Marc Jacobs Decadence, Aromatics Elixir or Mitsouko but I have to say the most compliments I have ever received/ people asking what I am wearing is Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy.

Should I lie? 😀

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 20:36

OneNight you are really brave wearing Ghost Deep Night, that must bring back an extreme form of nostalgia Flowers

I'm just suffering from an erratic stream of thought that says "I don't want to lose two siblings in a month", I'm being over dramatic, it's his roof that risks being lost.

Squashit · 08/09/2017 20:36

Does anyone else like 4711 cologne?
