Can you pass by a dept store on your way to work and douse yourself in something gorgeous??

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 07:57

Horrid week this week. Weather hasn't helped.
Resigned from one of my voluntary roles after one of the nastiest meetings I've ever attended.
Dh goes away for a week with work tomorrow.
All in all feeling very 😦
So Dior addict for me today. Dh keeps saying he likes it 😁

explodingkittens · 08/09/2017 07:59

Bluebell, meant to say I did look at the JHAG discovery boxes last night - bargain! you enabler you

I'm wondering if I need to step away from niche for a bit...new and exciting is hard work Wink I feel as if I need to retreat into the comforting embrace of some vintage Dior or Guerlain. I sound ridiculous don't I? Grin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/09/2017 08:11

Not ridiculous at all Bluebell. I find trying new perfumes properly, as opposed to just having a sniff, often quite challenging.
I still have almost all my JHAG samples to try (and I got them about April!)
Knope- hope you are happier now you've resigned from nasty meeting place. Have a big squirt of something lovely!

Puppylucky · 08/09/2017 08:22

In answer to the question above - yes I bought some Kenzo Elephant years ago. It's an incredibly heavy scent - very very fig based and I suspect it's a love hate job. I loved it for a bit but it got too much very quickly. It also smelt strangely reminiscent of another 80's scent that I could never quite identify. I have also got a small sample of the partner scent Kenzo Tigre - which despite now being discontinued is a much more wearable soft amber.

SOTD is the PP dupe of Ysatis which is very pretty - no idea how close it is to the original, but on me it smells a bit like violets and joss sticks (think that's the Sandalwood).
I keep having the same problem with the PP's I have bought though(I chose the oils). I love them on first application in the morning, before my nose has fully woken up, but when I reapply during the day, they all become offensively strong and headachy - I am obviously over applying but can't quite gaugue how much to put on.

explodingkittens · 08/09/2017 08:31

knope that's an excellent idea but sadly no nice places on the way to work, not even a decent m&s, just a Boots filled with pink mingers! Sorry to hear about your voluntary role, you definitely need something comforting today.

BluebellGal · 08/09/2017 08:57

Happy to help Kittens! I got into chemist perfumes a while back (enabled by the brilliant I scent you a day) you don't have to spend a fortune to smell good/ interesting. Check out her posts if you're interested. Some perfumes are too challenging for me - Secretions Magnifique a case in point. Why would anyone wear that?!

Sorry to hear about the crap you've had to put up with Knope - you're better off out! Sounds nasty - no need for that in the voluntary sector.

SOTD is Kenzo Flower L'Elixer. It's incredibly sweet - vanilla and praline. I'm on a diet so I'm satisfying my sweet tooth by proxy GrinCake

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 09:11

I am doused in addict and OFF yo do the grocery shop before work

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 09:12

Oh that kenzo sounds intetesting.....

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 09:24

SoTD is Paco Rabanne Olympea Intense. Heady vanilla with a generous dose of salt and some subtle spices, promises an amber dry down, it all swims around in a cloud of orange blossom. Not my general choice but not a PM.
Was going to wear Up The Apples and Pears but I've mislaid it Sad
Knope well done on giving up the unsatisfactory volunteering. No doubt you will find something less unpleasant to replace it. These roles can easily develop into situations where you feel you are doing it for love, because nobody in their right mind would do it for money. Hmm

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 09:27

Ha! I've been approached about another role which I might consider.. .
I already volunteer at my son's school
It was awful. Truly awful. So much so I'm trying to decide whether to alert the arch deacon as to what's going on...:(

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 09:27

Vanilla and spices?
Mmmm
Nice

MrsMacNally · 08/09/2017 09:30

Sorry to hear it's been a bad week for a lot of us Gin

Puppy - do PM me if you want to sell some or all of the Elephant? (Would fit right in with my Panda, Civet, Beaver and B**. I love a theme...Grin )

MrsMacNally · 08/09/2017 09:36

SotD - two armed approach: Amour Nocturne and Skin on Skin. Easy going and likeable end of things.

Puppylucky · 08/09/2017 09:47

Hi Mrs M - thanks for the kind offer but the Elephant went the way of all flesh ( aka donated to the charity shop). It is an interesting smell though.
My Ysatis dupe has settled down again now - it really is very nice

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/09/2017 09:55

Bloody love Ysatis.
Interesting about the Olympea Intense because one of the PMs at my cousin's was Olympea not-intense and it needs a PM alert warning added to it (as does Vanitas Versace and Elle YSL along with anything from Juicy Couture and Victoria's Secret though I would expect the latter to be PMs given the marketing demographic and the packaging!)

BluebellGal · 08/09/2017 09:57

What is PMs?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/09/2017 10:20

PM= Pink Mingers Grin Perfumes that smell as pink as they look! Like those over sweet, sticky, strawberry flavoured sweets and desserts that don't smell like real strawberries.

Where the Body Shop Dewberry was the prototype PM back in the day, Flowerbomb and the 3,000 "Miss Dior" variations have followed.

T'is a travesty. Grin

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 10:32

Tis

BluebellGal · 08/09/2017 11:29

Hahaha Grin

Ok I detest those perfumes! Millennials don't know what delights they are missing out on!

Ellie Saab Girl of Now fits into that description. It's really awful, made me gag!

Knope2020 · 08/09/2017 11:33

The current trend of sickly sweet sugary perfumes makes me by turns angry, sad and nauseated 😡😔🤢
I also hate the colour pink 😁

PerfumeIsAMessage · 08/09/2017 12:04

I am in vintage Givenchy III now that I'm back home and zoflora-ing the house (am truly a child of MN Grin came back with 3 different varieties)

MrsMacNally · 08/09/2017 12:15

Grin at PiaM - tell me which of the three you recommend!

Thanks Puppy - hope it found a good home. I never seem to find perfume in charity or junk shops . Hope most charities are set up to make decent money on it via eBay.

At the moment I have just wiped out my clothes drawers with Hyacinth, and popped some Fresh Linen in my fabric softener drawer. The other is Bluebell Woods. Grin Also have a Yankee Candle seasalt and sage melt burning. (got a bit of a craving for salty fragrance at the moment)
Having left dp alone in the house for 2 months (who is of the opinion that if you can't actually see black slime, it's not dirty Confused) I may be using it all up rather quickly. Dd said "Mum, I don't think Dad cleaned the shower at all while we were gone" to which I replied "his idea of cleaning the shower is standing under it and letting the soapy water run down"

BluebellGal · 08/09/2017 12:53

Just opened up a Perfume Society email revealing their latest discovery box. The theme is texture (interesting) but one of the perfumes is Ellie Saab Girl of Now Shock

Also another is Mugler Aura (smelt it last week, a green minger!) needless to say I won't be buying this box!!
