We'll go anywhere in search of things that smell great, and then we discuss them here. Feel free to join us.

Green (other perfumistas)... I have a 50ml Fire I shall never finish and am happy to send you samples/decants. I have one unused Travalo 5ml I could fill and send, but would like one back for the ready to use drawer. PM if interested...

SoTD is Dries van Noten (again! you wail). It is true love, and Tam Dao may also be true love. Polyperfumery is encouraged here.

Fast running out of posts so I've started a new thread here. Hope you don't mind Judy. Venn diagrams for the next one maybe?

Morning....

I don't understand that other thread, why people keep going on about it being offensive (and I speak as someone who reports zillions of ageist posts- of the "an old bag looked at my baby" type. Despite it being explained very well on the thread that "old lady" perfume does NOT mean that we don't want it (quite the opposite in most perfumistas' cases) one or two are determined to be offended. Meh.

So, I've dug the Taylor of London Panache out today- even though it's not the wonderful Lentheric version, it's still gorgeous and I keep sniffing my arm and feeling like an OLD LADY so there Grin

I am very impressed with the sorting of scents- I have said before I have now 4 boxes: 1) special vintages that can be used but sparingly and never finished until they have been replaced by an equally vintage version 2) The FB box of normal perfumes. Modern stuff and vintage FBs that may be vintage but don't stroke my soul when I sniff them (sometimes there are crossovers in box 1 and 2 - for example my ginormous FB of Vent Vert is in box 2 but my tiny sample of EdP Vent Vert in the cuboid box is in Box 1) 3) the vintage only-bought-for-nostalgia purposes box (the Max Factor cats, the Avon Moonwind soaps etc) 4) the Everything Else box which, frankly, needs a damn good sort out. 5) the as yet empty box into which I shall put the Not Yet Tried from box 4 6) the as yet empty Things I Don't Like and Must Get Rid of box.

Obviously boxes 5 and 6 don't yet exist.

Judy Flowers you really have been having a tough time. I hope something turns up for your DP soon and you can get the toothache under control. I found a paste of salt and black pepper applied to the sore area surprisingly effective.

So another shiny gold enabler bee for Pest Grin. Maybe I ought to give Fire another try. I didn't like it when I sprayed it in the Fragrance Shop but I keep on having to eat my words when it comes to opinions I've expressed on scent. Pity there still isn't a purse spray of it available - and the Mary Greenwells are such lovely solid purse sprays.

Bluebell I think we may be working through the same Perfume Society box. Exquisite Essences? My sample today is Liz Earle Botanical Essences No 20 - a pretty, but to my mind, unremarkable rose that is fading away very quickly. It makes me appreciate the ridiculous frivolity of yesterday's E Coudray Iris Rose all the more.

Time for a new thread, scented ones?

Sorry to hear you’re having a tough time Judy, I have the same problem with teeth grinding and should wear a nightly shield (I don’t very often). Hope your partner finds work soon.

SOTD is Dear Rose Song for a Queen. I quite like it and it was strangely very familiar. Looking at the notes I see orange blossom and vanilla. Yes it’s JPG Classique reincarnated but three times the price!

Some Geminesse would be lovely, mrsMac!

Hope you feel better soon, Judy. Toothache is horrible.

I also have some Fire arriving in the post and I ordered the 1460 scent of the week.

I love Fire and it is perfect for October. I have a stockpile now that it has been discontinued. I didn’t get on so well with the other MG and have a purse spray of Plum which has only been sprayed a few times if anyone would fancy a swap.

Another frustrating morning remaining scent-free in the hope that the postie will bring my eBay vintage Arpège. No sign yet.

Strange scent experience last night - I had bought some Johnson’s baby shampoo for nostalgia’s sake and was most disappointed when I realised that the scent has been changed quite dramatically. Later on when reading with DD I couldn’t work out why I kept getting whiffs of Mitsouko. Turns out that the Johnson’s scent now has a pretty big whack of soapy, aldehydic peach - just like Mitzi!

Tooth ache is pure misery, Judy so you have all my sympathies. And I have my fingers crossed that something will crop up for your DP. Unemployment is completely enervating.

SOTD here is La Fille de Berlin. I really enjoy this when I'm in the mood for a straightforward rose. It's not too sweet or powdery and the longevity is good. Quite linear, not terribly exciting, but feels like 'quality'. Unchallenging.

I need I don't actually need more Lutens in my life. Everything i've tried from the line, I've liked, even loved

Oh Judy, that sounds really tough - I hope he finds a suitable job soon. My BIL is in oil (NE Scotland) and I know they have had a worrying couple of years. And get yourself back to the dentist - dental pain is the worst Flowers

pest he was surprisingly spot on with the notes in MMM Fireplace, so maybe...

MrsPestilence · 03/10/2017 23:19

Judy he could buy vintage perfumes and sell decants. Would save us all the problem of customs bills from the US. This is an entirely selfless thought, honest.

pest yes, oil here. We did look into retraining but it is so expensive - there were funds for people to go into teacher training but they were only available to a small number of people, mainly actual offshore workers. My salary is decent so we can manage (but it means he doesn't even get JSA now six months have passed because i earn too much) but he is so depressed and it is tough.

I'm doing Corsodyl. Vom.

Judy I know lots of people who were in oil and are in the same boat now. It is a tough one. He could retrain as a teacher and make it onto the next venn diagram, Grin
I assume you have tried the distraction of salt rinses, something reassuringly masochistic about them.

Ah sorry, I just read that you're clenching your teeth. I know it sounds obvious/wanky, but maybe deliberate relaxation before bed stuff like yoga or sex could help?

Report
Judydreamsofhorses · 03/10/2017 22:55

pest he has a "dumbed down* CV, but at 41 he would essentially have to fabricate 20 years of work experience. (I didn't mean to sound arsey with highly qualified there, btw, so sorry if it came across that way.)

mary the dentist said she thought a food particle had gone under the gum, but it doesn't just feel irritated, it's really achey and painful and ibuprofen plus paracetamol aren't touching it. God!

pestilencalone · 03/10/2017 22:49

Fire appeared to be sold out and unavailable just a week ago, I can understand your actions.
Report
MaryLennoxsScowl · 03/10/2017 22:49

Poor you, Judy. Could it be brushing your teeth too hard and irritating the gums? I have been told and told not to scrub at my teeth but when I'm distracted or rushing I always forget, and it makes the gums hurt. I get through toothbrushes twice as fast as DH.

Report
pestilencalone · 03/10/2017 22:46

Judy, although it is wrong to fabricate qualifications, omitting them is probably acceptable. Hope he finds something soon, for your teeth's sake.

green I swear I have been st the dentist more in the last six months than my entire life. My partner got made redundant last year and since the start of this year I have been clenching in my sleep due to stress, which has caused a whole host of problems. I now have a custom-made (very sexy) night guard but it only minimises damage to the teeth and doesn't actually stop the clenching. Until he finds a job I can't see the stress lifting, and because he does a fairly specialist role in an industry that's been decimated, it is hard. (And because he's highly qualified he can't even get a job stacking shelves, despite all the threads on here that say "just get any job"!)

@OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack have the antibiotics kicked in yet? You've been poorly for a while and I was hoping to see you bounce back and start enjoying sniffing Flowers again.

GreenPolishToGo · 03/10/2017 22:34

Oh poor Judy Flowers. If you're in pain, go back anyway and don't be embarrassed. I had a mysterious and hideously painful toothache once that I was convinced was some kind of infection. It turned out I'd irritated my gum by grinding my teeth in my sleep. "You must lead a less stressful life," instructed the dentist, which I have to say was not the most useful advice I'd ever been given.
