Have just had a final sniff of the Lush paper strips and I think the Amelie Mae dry down might smell like Grecian 2000 Shock

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 22:27

I really disliked it 🤢

GreenPolishToGo · 18/09/2017 23:21

Umm, MrsMac did you have two Up the Apples and Pears? Because I swapped you Je Reviens for a 9ml of it a couple of threads ago...

Oh and wonderful descriptions of the new Lush perfumes, thank you. I think I must make time to sniff Rentless at the very least. But why, oh why have they discontinued the 9ml bottles? They are the perfect size for scent hoppers like us.

Squash I had Decadence in a sample box recently. There was something a bit off about the top notes but I thought the dry down was very attractive and surprisingly grown up - especially after Daisy.

Floofy I loathe Alien so don't let that put you off Alien Essence Absolue. Cleverer noses than mine may detect a family resemblance but to me one is offensively screechy and the other is blissfully lush. When I got a sample of Alien Essence Absolue I did think it was going to be like Alien so I applied it very gingerly and got ready to scurry for a scrubbing session. I certainly hadn't anticipated love at first sniff.

So after some pondering I think I would like Santa to bring me:

L'Air du Désert Marocain,
L'Air de Rien,
4160 Tuesdays Tart's Knicker Drawer,
Comme des Garçons Avignon,
Après l'Ondée
Vilhelm Parfumerie's Dear Polly.

Because I have been a mostly good perfumista and I really, really want need them.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 19/09/2017 05:15

Thanks for the school-starting reassurance everyone. I think routine probably is the key - he's used to being full time in nursery/pre-school so this half days here and there transition business has been pretty unsettling.

Pest oooh those sample sets!! I've been spending the weekend thinking of all the money now being saved by only paying one lot of nursery fees and thinking of the new kitchen or new bathroom or extension it could fund but now I'm mentally frittering it away on sample collections!! Need to behave...

Well done kittens - go you!

Thank goodness I'm not alone in the Christmas love Grin

Badders08 · 19/09/2017 06:36

Bluergh
Lurgy has landed.
And I was supposed to be having my flu jab today....
Got such a busy day today I could really do without this...grr
Sotd prob addict although I can't smell anything anyway

explodingkittens · 19/09/2017 07:56

Oh no, hope it passes quick-smart badders.

I'm in Tam Dao today - seemed somehow suitable for a damp, grey morning. Went back to my previous post on this and i wasn't too keen and couldn't detect the rose at all last time - I definitely can today! It's lovely, actually, warmer and sweeter than the last time I tried it but with a satisfyingly musty, grubby note underneath that stops the rose from being dull and generic.

So odd, and so fascinating, the way our sense of smell changes! I think it's also affected by where I've sprayed it - more 'down the shirt-front' than on the wrists this morning which seems to be doing the trick in terms of bringing out the warmer notes Grin

Sorry, ignore my ramblings - you probably all know this stuff already!

MrsMacNally · 19/09/2017 08:16

How embarrassing Green - I think you're right Blush.

Sincere apologies Pest - that's perimenopausal brain fade for you. Can I send you some Apuldre to try to say sorry?

MrsMacNally · 19/09/2017 08:25

Green - that's a fabulous list (Somerset House has a lot to answer for). Haven't smelt L'AdR, but with you on everything else (and Jicky).

Oh oh oh!!
My samples from a very lovely perfumista gave arrived!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/09/2017 11:58

Glad they've arrived safely, Badders. Hope you like them - they are quite different to each other. Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 19/09/2017 13:28

I have 9ml of Up the Apples and Pears that could be available. It's not one that speaks to me but I got it in the crowd funding round. PM if interested.

OCSockOrphanage · 19/09/2017 13:31

SoTD is Cuir Pleine Fleur, which I sometimes like a lot and today it's great, but it isn't lasting too well. Other times, Chypre 21 is good but last time out, it was an epic fail for whatever reason. Waiting on a task which is stage 2 of the interview process and trying to displace the nerves.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/09/2017 14:58

I can't seem to let go of Shazam...almost reached for Mitsouko this morning but changed my mind. I'm finding it a warm, comforting scent.

It's brilliant reading about all your experiences with different perfumes. I can't seem to get on with the Chanel ones - every one I've tried smells horrible on me. I'm wondering if it's the aldehydes. Haven't had a Guerlain fail me yet.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 19/09/2017 16:19

I'm so with you on LADDM and Avignon Green!

Well done Kittens and good luck OC!

I am in Eau du Sud (still on a citrus binge) and lying on bed feeling sorry for myself as my plantar fasciitis is making me screech.

Badders08 · 19/09/2017 16:32

Oooh PIAM....ds2 has severs disease and is suffering atm. Both are very Nasty. Hugs x
I cant smell the samples because I'm bunged up! Oh woe is meeee

3DGlasses · 19/09/2017 16:48

Hello all. I'll catch up on the thread tonight in bed with a cuppa. It'll be my little guilty pleasure Grin.

SOTD is Halle by Halle Berry. One of the few celeb fragrances I really like, alongside Queen Latifah and various Liz Taylors.

Got raging PMT, look dn feel like hell... and had to cover colleagues classes today at work. 25 boisterous 16/17 yr old boys. It was a challenge .

I am going to look through my samples over the weekend and will report back on anything I can let go, as some of you may be interested.

Badders08 · 19/09/2017 16:50

25 16/17 year old Boys!!??
God never mind boisterousness- the stench!!!!!!
😣🤢

3DGlasses · 19/09/2017 16:58

Badders Grin.

I dont teach much anymore, so I had forgotten the need for a stealth can of deodorant in the top drawer of your desk to discreetly offer up to the worst offenders.

Big mistake!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 19/09/2017 17:05

Eau du Teenager...

I go into 2a twice after they've done PE. Twice. And we're in Italy so nobody ever opens a window because you die stone dead if you've been sweating then sit in "air".

explodingkittens · 19/09/2017 17:07

I've spent the day with a strip of Rentless in my jacket pocket. I do like it but not enough, I don't think, to justify £25 for 30ml when I'm on a tight budget this month... The rest of the new Lush scents left me unmoved - and I thought cardamom coffee was pretty grim really.

I just kept wishing I'd bought Kerbside Violet when they did the little bottles, too late now!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 19/09/2017 17:11

hello all

i am unwell, have some rotten bug that's settled on my chest so i am coughing horribly and every bit of me is aching and burning up Sad

I am intrigued by some of the perfumes you've all been talking about, none of which i have tried. I ought to spread my wings a little and try more things but i'm utterly rubbish at getting samples, even when i ask for them directly i never get any!! I don't even know why either, it's a definite mystery.

haven't been wearing much of anything, i can't really smell anything right now so it's felt a bit pointless to apply it if i can't smell it!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 19/09/2017 18:34

Am now showered and in Doe In the Snow.
Erm, well, not much comes to mind to say really. It's inoffensive, the only note I get beyond that initial "sherbetty" thing that Paris 1948 also seems to have, is "white possibly Christmas themed Yankee Candle" and despite 2 good sprays on each arm it's almost totally gone after 20 minutes. Off to read the notes but am underwhelmed.

MrsMacNally · 19/09/2017 18:55

Another day in Rome 1963 which I REALLY like. Pained to have only discovered this after half-price week ended... Sad. I remain intrigued by its relationship to The Great Randello so am trying side by side tonight. Early days, but so far so different: Rome is positively medicinal in the first few moments, then moves to something like jasmine tea, whereas Randello unfurls with a wisp of gorgeous tobacco and sweet citrus, then opens out into strawberry toffee (anyone remember pink toffos?). Will see how this goes....

Later I am trying out a Lush £2 wash strip thing as a one-off immersive experience of What Would Love Do? I do like a new format Grin.

MrsMacNally · 19/09/2017 19:03

PiaM - remind me; do you get the nuclear-strength peach note in Paris 1948 (lasts all day)?

EK - I found Kerbside Violet quite challenging - wasn't it very earthy and raw?

OP posts:
3DGlasses · 19/09/2017 19:10

Noooo PIAM. Really? I bloody love Doe in the Snow!

Haven't cracked out my bottle yet this year, as its a straight-up cold winter day fragrance for me.

This was the first 4160T perfume that made me actually physically want to applaud Sarah M.

For me, its peach, citrus, a cold green note (maybe pine or fir)...extremely aldehydic...and has this lovely-but-very-weird 'put your head in the freezer and inhale the ice' vibe. Very oak mossy in the dry down.

I will crack it out again when the weather gets truly cold and tell you if I still love it (might cry if I don't).
