I ought to arrange a perfumista get together here and bake up a storm 😁
Floofy...hope you are feeling stronger soon. I LOVE lush ❤
Amazing what affects our scent preference isn't it? TOTM always sends my olfactory senses a bit doolally....

HaHaHmm · 17/09/2017 23:09

Not strictly perfume but Korres shower gels and shampoos are half price in Waitrose at the moment, so I stocked up on Fig at £4 a bottle today. I'm already looking forward to my shower in the morning.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 18/09/2017 04:18

Hello!!

Room for one more at the Pity Party? Have had a weekend of DC acting up like never before... I'm sure there's a connection to starting school and DS1 struggling with his feelings about that but the "hey let's talk about it" approach hasn't got us very far this weekend.

SsOTweekend were London 1969 and Oxford.

So pleased to read about Wassailing perfumes. I love love love Christmas and can never get on board with the "pft they're selling mince pies in September" rants. I've already got through one box of mince pies this year, have bought DH and DS1s advent calendars and am considering reaching for the Christmas CD for the work run!

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 07:09

glitter me too!! 🌲
Sorry to hear your little one is struggling....very common when they start school for behaviour to alter/deteriorate.
Early nights, stick to routine and a snack at pick up all help!! X

explodingkittens · 18/09/2017 07:22

What's LVEB? I'm racking my brains but can't think what it might be!

SOTD is Chergui. Big day today - presenting to 600 people, including my Big Boss and a load of senior colleagues who will be watching my every move. Needed something with a solid presence! Probably should be gone for Fracas and stunned them all into submission Wink

Happy Monday everyone, especially those having a tricky time Flowers

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 07:27

La vie et belle
It's a proper PM
🤢
Sotd will be addict
Dh seems....addicted 😁

explodingkittens · 18/09/2017 07:47

Ahhhhh, thanks Badders

PerfumeIsAMessage · 18/09/2017 08:34

Glitter- sorry your son isn't settling well, fingers crossed this week will be better. Dd is settling OK at her new school, things are great in the classroom, but she still needs to get over the massive hurdle of going in alone as she doesn't know anyone to walk in there with yet.

I'm another Christmas addict and have ordered (another) cookbook this weekend on the back of the Christmas threads. I always think the moaners about Christmas are such dementors. You don't see the people who moan about "can't wait for summer" being jumped on like the Christmas fans always are.

MrsMc- not only did I fly with one bottle, I sent another 2 in a parcel! I just thought it was a non-descript product till I read some of the threads on here about it! Shock

SoTD is MG Lemon. Once you get past the first half hour of the love child of windolene and fly spray, it's wonderful. A mossy lemon. TF and Atelier Cologne and all the other ££££££££s people who call a citrus a fancy schmancy Italianesque name and stick it in 35 layers of packaging to justify their poncing would do well to take a leaf. This one ain't going to fade away into nothingness after 20 minutes.

MrsMacNally · 18/09/2017 08:35

Talking of Wassailling perfumes, I have a big bottle of Molton Brown's Apuldre which is on my swap list (gren aromatic with lots of juniper). Always make me think about orchards and gin

Knock 'em dead EK

Reaching for Londinium for first time in 2017 - it's chilly, and Apuldre has got me thinking about MB. Did anyone go for their PS sample set? Have been eyeing this up with the advent calendar project in mind. Pest was your brilliant list on this thread or last?

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 09:52

I got my copy of nigellas Christmas out yesterday 🌲😁

GreenPolishToGo · 18/09/2017 11:08

I am in beautiful smoky, heavy, opulent, vanilla-laden Alien Essence Absolue to console myself for the DD-shaped hole in the house. However I am delighted that so far she seems to be having a whale of a time at uni. DH and I are both feeling a bit wistful that we can't go back and do it all over again ourselves.

MrsMac you need page 8 of this thread for Pest's wonderful sample list. Hope you have a gentler week and I didn't think you sounded a bit gruff either. Floofy and all other poorly perfumistas, have some Flowers and hope you're all up, about and sniffing away happily soon.

Cheap, as Badders says, it is practically a rite of passage for DC to start school and have a meltdown once home again. I can only echo her splendid advice about sleep and snacks.

Talking of Christmas, what scents would we all like Santa to bring us?

Oh and I have scored a bargain half-bottle of Jicky! This is very exciting since it was reading about Jicky in JR Ackerley's "My Father and Myself" that sparked the whole ruinous (but fun and fascinating) perfume habit. I hope I like it.

GreenPolishToGo · 18/09/2017 11:12

And very best of luck with the presentation Kittens.

Squashit · 18/09/2017 12:39

My favourite perfumes this week are Marc Jacobs Decadence, Lush Sikkim Girls and I have decided I need some Neutrogena Rainbath.

Puppylucky · 18/09/2017 13:39

Wow what a coincidence - reading back through this thread and saw MB Alpudre mentioned. I have never heard anyone else reference this fragrance before and was just thinking about how much I liked it the other day. It doesn't suit me at all - in my mind it's a perfume for a tall androgynous beauty like Tilda Swindon but I loved it's crisp juniper austerity - sigh !

Pestilentialone · 18/09/2017 13:57

Hope you knocked dead Kittens.

Mrs M I'd love to swap the Up the Apples and Pears. What for?

Green I get what you mean about the rough opening of some perfumes. I have a few where the first 5-20 mins are hard to get through and then they settle down to something lovely.

More advent calendar ideas
Le Labo more niche than an alcove
Juliet Has a Gun two sample sets
Mini YSL to catch up on the classics
Escentric Molecules all 6 for £15

Pestilentialone · 18/09/2017 13:59

Blush I hope you knocked them dead Kittens effortlessly whilst smelling gorgeous. Wine

Floofy hope it is peaceful at your place today.

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 18/09/2017 14:10

Oh damn you pest I'm totally going to have to get the Molecules one for me, not advent calendars Grin

Squashit I haven't heard of Neutrogena Rainbath, but I want some of that too now Wink

Green You make the Alien Absolute sound lovely, the Alien part scared me off but I might give it another go. I hope you quickly go from peeking wistfully in DD's bedroom to enjoying your new peace and freedom Smile DH and I had a McDonalds breakfast this morning when all the DC were at college/school - and hid the packaging Grin

for cheap - they get so tired and grumpy, don't they? We had WW3 with DS this weekend who is struggling to adjust to change of routine (high school, but he has SN) and I've already asked them to adjust homework

SOTD is Library of Fragrance Orange Blossom (I though the linear nature would be reminiscent of the Lush Bubbly. It wasn't Grin)

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 18/09/2017 14:17

I took so long to type that pest that I didn't see your second post, I look very ungrateful and rude replying to your kind wishes with "damn you" Blush

Flowers to you and everyone else sending positive thoughts. I do feel a lot more cheerful today possibly to do with the boots and handbag I just bought on eBay Wink

Pestilentialone · 18/09/2017 14:33

Good idea Floofy you can't wear boots in bed well you can, but that is another thread

How to get samples
Etsy for the wild card
Pell Wall
Miller Harris
And I love this one five completely random mini bottles from Argos

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/09/2017 18:49

SO glad Monday's done. SOTD is Chanel 19. Hope everyone's okay.

MrsMacNally · 18/09/2017 19:21

What a lovely treat - a whole day's worth of posts plus more of Pest's excellent links. Have made a cup of coffee and will have a leisurely proper read in a mo.

Made it to Lush today and was impressed with several of their new scents. Quick, first impressions:

Cardamom Coffee (tested on skin & paper) - opens with an emphasis on the coffee (plus herbal and oud woody notes). Cardamon comes out as a heart note when the whole thing gets sweeter, and more floral (rose). This is very nice, but am a slightly put off by the henna note in the opening, and towards the end, the occasional very slightly stinky whiff of oud which doesn't sit comfortably with the otherwise gourmand vibe.

Rentless (tested on paper) patch and grapefruit (which, combined, smell aromatic and uplifting, a bit like rosemary & pine) plus comforting and rich tonka and labdanum underneath. Unusual as these seem to sit concurrently, rather than blending completely together. Tauer fans - will be interested to see what you make of this?

What Would Love do (tested on skin) a very easy to love aromatic tangerine and lavender on a great big cushion of soapy, comforting benzoin. Straightforward and very enjoyable. (Bit like the clean/comforting citrus/amber effect in Les Nuits D'Hadrien).

Amelie Mae (tested on paper) - a flirty fruity floral; don't worry not especially sweet. (Dry-down has a slightly chemically quality on paper). Need to try again on skin.

I'm Home (sniffed fleetingly) - sweet fudge. Not for me.

Interesting Mrs M but no henna in it, I am a henna obsessive as DD is rather allergic and it took two years to work out what the heck it was. And £79 for 100 ml, this is lush! I am shocked. The solid perfume at £9 for a little pot is more like it.
Devil's nightcap sounds good for layering. Should be an almighty hit of oak moss.

SoTD is Rosa Ribes, it is growing on me a bit. Slightly floral, slightly fruity, slightly perfumey. Safe, good for work, not a love though.

Might give JPG Madame a go tomorrow. Apply perfume, feed fish in pond, loiter for another couple of mins and then JPG's great maiden aunt will have retreated and it will be very wearable.

explodingkittens · 18/09/2017 20:13

Ooooh, excited by new Lush fragrances. Shame they've got rid of the 10ml purse sprays though, so handy. Like the sound of Rentless...has anyone tried Devil's Nightcap or Icon?

Absolutely smashed it at work 😉 - thanks for all the good vibes. Hopefully things will start to settle down a bit now and I won't need to whinge about my job so much now!

Badders08 · 18/09/2017 21:53

£79 for lush perfume!!?
😮
I like the sound of cardamom coffee and rentless
I've smelt Amelie mae - smells like marzipan to me 🤢

MrsMacNally · 18/09/2017 22:23

Pest - open to offers! Just pm me and let me know what might be on your swap list.

And if you or Puppy fancy a swap with the Apuldre, pm me too. Can send you a sample - I did wonder if you'd tried? I always think of you when it comes to bold botanical flavours!
