Or are you perhaps a David Bowie fan TheCat?

Another dire day at work, but have just came home to a lovely surprise. A very kind eBay seller who had already included some extra things in what was a v modest transaction, has sent another little box with some more wonderful samples. Such a nice thing to do. Hoping she will let me send her something in exchange or nominate a charity I can donate to. Her timing couldn't've been any better.

Hope things get better soon Sept/Floof - you've inspired me to dig out Fire for its autumn/winter run. But I might have to test the stuff in the little box first...

Oh how lovely
Just had a bath so prob have a spritz of lush twilight

explodingkittens · 11/09/2017 18:42

I picture this cat with screwed-up eyes and a screwed-down hairdo Wink

Another solid 10-hour day in the office. Sigh. Luckily I had By The Fireplace to keep me company. Starts off with a rather tricky burnt-caramel note - and when I say 'burnt' I mean blackened, sticking to the bottom of the pan, setting the smoke alarm off 'burnt' which wasn't great tbh. But soon settled into something rather delicious, like toasting marshmallows over a campfire. It is sweet, but not overpoweringly so, and is very comforting and warming. Definitely one for chilly autumnal days, but better still snuggled at home with the wind howling outside. I keep sticking my nose down the front of my dress to get a whiff! Excellent longevity too, put it in at 6.30am and its still going pretty strong. However, I would definitely say this is verging on a gourmand rather than anything too woody so if that's not your thing Judy, I don't know what you'd think of it.

MrsMacNally · 11/09/2017 18:44

Yes, that's what I was imagining too EK Smile

SOTD was FM Lipstick Rose.

kittens thanks for such a lovely review. I did wonder if it might be too gourmand for me, whereas maybe I want more smoky. I need a sample, really, I'm in Glasgow next week, does anywhere there stock it, do we know? I am just there for a meeting but should have relatively easy access to sNK and HOF.

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/09/2017 18:59

september (are you Floofy, I can't keep up - I don't even know how to name change!) I can whack my Gabrielle in the post if you can't get hold of one. I can't imagine I'll bother it again. Your diagnosis - un-sniffed - is 100% accurate!

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2017 21:35

Reading the descriptions of snuggling up in scent is making me feel a little better about the miserable weather. Smile

The name is, indeed, from David Bowie. I was always rather taken with his use of the extended metaphor. Grin Do wish he was still with us. I spent a couple of months working in Brixton a while back, involving lots of early mornings. I'd drink a cup of coffee in the shelter of the mural and cheer myself out of the shock of being wrapped in the dawn by thinking of my favourite songs.

I don't know the cat with a blue fan - I really want to know. Smile

I quite like the Prada 'Infusion d'Iris' but I think my favourite day to day Iris is Chanel No. 19 Poudre. I hope it doesn't get discontinued.

I'm still wearing my PP Saffron but I am wondering if it might be time to turn to something a bit more heavy-duty. 'Fire' sounds like a good choice.

You know how JK Rowling says that chocolate is a cure for the Dementors? I'm wondering if 'Fire' might be the olfactory equivalent for weather versions of the Dementors.

MrsMacNally · 11/09/2017 22:46

Talking of saffron, has anyone tried Safran Troublant (another Bertrand Duchaufour). Have really enjoyed Amour Nocturne and Traversee du Bosphore this week - both great for the start of Autumn. (EK - what did you make of AN?).

Also, having had my appetite whet here for Coffee Cardamom, I'm now also wondering about Saffron, Cardamom, Amber (Korres)? Anyone tried?

NB. A Lush SA said they are expecting to have CC on their shelves on Friday. They are retiring several things at the same time (including All Good Things, Smuggler's Soul, and Death and Decay (won't be mourning the passing of the latter)). They are also dropping 10ml bottles too - BOO!

Badders08 · 12/09/2017 07:08

Can't wait to try cardamom coffee!!
I like korres stuff but haven't smelt the perfume...
I went to t k Maxx yesterday...my local one is pants...not a single bottle of perfume!
I did buy some nice olive oil hand soap
Sotd dior addict again...akrhough weather wise we are headed into knowing territory :)

BluebellGal · 12/09/2017 08:17

Byzantium Saffron by merchant of Venice is one of my favourites

Will look out for Korres perfumes- are they sold in John Lewis?

SOTD is Velvet Orchid and Cardamom by the Bath House - a relatively cheap perfume but super quality and the Rose is Ruth Mastenbroek (clearly I like her taste). Of course orchids have no scent - this is white spicy floral. The projection and silage is fab (I struggle with both usually but Ruth's perfumes seem to work on me - although I see she has created Jo Malone perfumes though and they are shite)

BluebellGal · 12/09/2017 08:18

The rose? I meant nose!

SeptemberWhenItComes · 12/09/2017 08:43

Well that's slightly embarrassing that I believed you were referencing a childrens' book cat and it was actually David Bowie BlushGrinClearly I am deeply uncool Grin

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/485510.MyCattLikestooHideinn_Boxes

Excellent book though - I used to read it to my cats children.

Oh Judy if you would like to swap something for the Gabrielle that would be brilliant - I was meant to be doing a trip to Big Town today and was going to brave snooty orange ladies and do some Gabrielle sniffing but am not up to it, very annoying! Have a few samples knocking around, and teeny bottles for decanting so let me know if there's anything you would like?

SOTD is Fire mixed with Deep Heat and it's actually quite amazing! DH recoiled from me before and asked if my electric blanket was smouldering HmmI quite like it Smile

VeryPunny · 12/09/2017 08:59

PSA but you lot probably already know - the perfume offering in M&S is vastly improved! My local one had a lovely range of Fragonard perfumes - including a lovely 5 vial tester set for £16. I bought the full size Cedre, perfect for autumn. They also have some lovely Monotheme perfumes which are very similar to some Tom Ford scents - the Rose Oud was lovely!

explodingkittens · 12/09/2017 09:04

Lol at smouldering electric blanket september - sounds rather like a 4160 Tuesdays scent name!

SOTD is Miller Harris Rose en Noir...meh. Nice enough but not setting my world on fire.

Thanks for the reminder about Amour Nocturne Mrs - I've not tried it yet but it could be a contender tomorrow.

Feel like I've got a cold coming on, would kill for a couple of duvet days but no flipping chance of that anytime soon...

teta · 12/09/2017 10:00

De-lurking to say that Aedes de Venustas can be bought in small quantities from Gerald's decants on the Crystal Flagon site.I've bought some 10 ml perfumes from him and they come in really good quality dinky bottles.
Just thought this info. might be useful for the poster bemoaning the expense of the Aedes and anyone else .
Sotd is of course Aedes de venustas - incense and rhubarb gorgeousness.

BluebellGal · 12/09/2017 10:05

How much are the 10ml Teta?

teta · 12/09/2017 10:36

25 euros.
It's Crystal Flacon not flagon.

Pestilentialone · 12/09/2017 13:49

TKMaxx iris alert Cat and others Or Noir Pascal Morabito £16.99 for 100ml a whacking 70% off

3DGlasses · 12/09/2017 15:14

For Yardley Jade lovers - 50ml is £8.95 on allbeauty.com at the moment.

They also have some JHAG and Bond No.9 fragrances with BIG discounts.

SOTD is EL Sensuous Nude. I totally went off this over the summer - the coconut was cloying to the point it nauseated me - but spritzed on a whim today and its been really nice - zesty citrus-coconut with a creamy, cosy dry down.

Badders08 · 12/09/2017 15:38

Had 2 compliments today on addict 😁

Badders08 · 12/09/2017 15:38

Howdy-doody.

Still not got my perfume mojo back (and still have 3 boxes and 2 suitcases to unpack ) but surely will get back to normal soon!
Dd started high school today so of course we've all been hyperventilating in terror since the weekend as the day loomed (me hyperventilating on the QT obviously) including a Huge Trauma when she was put into the class I asked her NOT to be put into (I am at the same school but a different "pathway" but obviously know all the teachers) so I was very upset that I counted for so little they'd put her where I didn't want her. So I fretted all weekend and went in on Monday (Chanel 19 EdP) ready to blaze guns, just to have the deputy head come up to me, pat me on the arm and say "it's OK, I've sorted it, I've moved her"
Catching up on a few pages....
MrsS- I spotted you "in real life" on the 4160 page, the name of the perfume you made gives you away! (hope it is OK for me to say that!) I have never wanted to lick a nice smelling boy, but I did once stop in my tracks and almost run after one to ask what he was wearing. He was an Italian in a navy suit so I expect it was something Chanel-y and classic.
Speaking of Chanel- I am loving Boy at the moment.
I also sniffed ET White Diamonds at the airport, but too sweet for me.
Cat- welcome back! I also loved the Purple Rain and as soon as my dd said "it smells soapy" I said it must be Iris!

Zoflora update- the hyacinth is magnificent, I want to lick my worktops, let alone nice smelling men. The linen is lovely and fresh and lenor-y. But I am very disappointed in the Bluebell- bought because I love bluebells, it just smells generically sweet, whereas the hyacinth really smells of hyacinth.

Been in Paris Premieres Roses since Sunday. Like I said, mojo not quite here at the moment!

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 12/09/2017 17:11

Badders (see you have encouraged me to change back from my September NC as it's so much easier Grin) I think you would like AP. I think it's a bit of a marmite scent but I adore it. Smells a little old ladies handbag on me to start with, but then it's a very dirty blowsy rose. It's a big perfume and the longevity is amazing (my skin hoovers usually). Reminds me of those big 80s behemoths but a different flavour.

I don't think I have very good taste though Wink so would be interested to see if you like it or not. If you don't, it would be a scrubber, I can tell that!

I must include M and S in my sniffing whenever I finally make it out of my bed the house - thanks for the tip very and teta go back to posting not lurking! Smile

Have spent the day eyeing up samples for my various advent calendars, which has livened me up as I'm going stir crazy. Also have ordered the PP Sweetie Almond scent, see, I'm totally tasteless and lowering the tone of our thread. Sorry Grin
