Roast chicken....yum yum
I wonder if there's a roast chicken dinner scent!?.....

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/09/2017 19:07

Maybe in the Library of Fragrance... I see those are all half price in Boots, btw, in the spirit of offering something relevant to the thread.

Badders08 · 10/09/2017 19:11

I love their baby powder one Blush

explodingkittens · 10/09/2017 19:49

The heating's on, we've just had a delicious chorizo and bean casserole-y stew-y thing, I'm on the sofa in thick socks and pyjamas I've had to scrub off the post-Selfridges mishmash and am having a rest from scent tonight, but I reckon the next couple of days will suit By The Fireplace pretty well...

The Chanel SA offered me a spritz of Gabrielle today and I probably should've taken her up on it just to see if I could get a sample. But I was blissed-out on Coromandel at the time - and sadly the name 'Gabrielle' just makes me think of a specific and rather tricky work issue at the moment!

MrsMacNally · 10/09/2017 20:23

I very much enjoyed hearing about your shopping trip EK Grin. At least your orange lady knew her stock. Last time I was in a high end beauty hall I has three dispiriting encounters with people who were unfamiliar with the stuff they were selling but did offer to look up things on their tablets...My non-perfumista shopping mate found this odd too.

And, I've tried to resist,...but I've got to ask you about Kilian's underwear?

The roasts and cake sounds lovely everyone, I've been looking after a tantruming toddler so no time for doing much including MN this weekend. She's finally in bed and settled. Just in time for Victoria. I wonder what perfume she wore?

SOTD yesterday was 4610 Tuesdays What I Did on my Holidays. It's really weird and I sort of like it, but don't love it. It is very nostalgic for me. It's sure powerful and longevity is impressive so I am encouraged to try her other perfumes. I did seem to have a bit of a reaction - itching and redness where I applied so will keep an eye on that.

SOTD Sunday - Enjoyed layering Terryfic Oud with Noix de tuberose (Miller Harris) for a smart family event today. It's the longest lasting MH on my and smells divine on my skin right now (nearly 12 hours after application).

BluebellGal · 10/09/2017 20:55

Kittens - Snap! I also got those two Kilian samples from Les Senteurs last week. I want to visit the orange lady - sounds like she's know her stuff. I'm reliant on John Lewis for sniffing expeditions and find their staff lack perfume knowledge. Les Senteurs was so refreshing and worth a visit

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/09/2017 21:14

So, Gabrielle. DP just said I smelled nice (good) but I think that sums it up. I could imagine buying this for any woman of any age, and they would like it well enough, but I certainly wouldn't shell out for it myself.

bluebell I get that burny thing with 4160 perfumes too - I have a full bottle of WIDOMH and rarely wear it for that reason. A few years back they did one called The Gin Garden, which I think was some collaboration for an event, and I loved it so much, but it used to give me dry, flaky patches so I could only spray it on my clothes.

explodingkittens · 10/09/2017 21:14

Yes, I agree about the orange lady Mrs, she did at least know what she was selling. Most of the sales assistants today were delightful but stuck very firmly to the 'try our newest fragrance' sales script, with very little deviation. I have absolutely no claim to expertise whatsoever, having only become really interested in perfume in the last couple of months (!!), but having spent many years in retail when I was younger I was a bit disappointed by the apparent lack of 'stock knowledge' today.

The Kilian underwear thing was funny though; the nice young man on the By Kilian concession was proudly showing me the ridiculously OTT satin-lined, skull-encrusted, tasselled boxes the perfumes come in, and I made some comment about how Kilian Hennessey's publicity photos were also always...interesting. 'Oh yes, he's rather dishy, isn't he?' said the young man, and then proceeded to excitedly tell me about the upcoming range of underwear (exclusive to Selfridges, natch).

'But I don't know if the bras are going to be tasselled, though', he said Grin.

Bless him. I really can't imagine that he thought the scruffy, un-made-up, jeans-and-trainers 40-something in front of him was in the market for a Kilian bra, tassels or no tassels, but his enthusiasm was infectious!

Hello. I lurk on this thread, I hope you don't mind me joining you.

It gives me such pleasure reading all the descriptions of what everyone is wearing or longing for, though I do feel a bit guilty - as though I'm eavesdropping.

I'm wearing the PP Jo Malone Saffron smell-a-like. No idea what the original is like but this is lovely. Very warm and comforting in this dispiriting weather. There's something close and almost dusty about it, like being wrapped in a warm, dry wind.

Thank you to the posters (on this thread) that recommended PP. Smile

thecatfromjapan · 10/09/2017 21:58

... and, again alerted by this thread to sightings of Miller Harris perfumes in TK Maxx, I found 'Terre d'Iris" in a South London TK Maxx! I love all things iris - to the extent that, when I visited Somerset House, my daughter sniffed 'Purple Rain' and said: "Mum, this has iris in it. I know because it smells like a lot of your perfumes." I've given birth to a daughter with a far better nose than me!

Anyway, thanks again for the Miller Harris alert!

MrsMacNally · 10/09/2017 22:21

Hello TheCat - think you might have posted on earlier perfume threads (I remember the cool name Smile)? If so, welcome back! If not, welcome!

Now that sales experience sounds like it's worth leaving the house for EK Grin.

You have a great memory, MrsMcNally. I do drop in from time to time - but lurk, mainly. I do enjoy reading Smile and feel I have to say 'thank you' every so often.

BluebellGal · 10/09/2017 22:30

Haha kittens good story

Welcome cat from Japan - sounds like we have similar taste as Purple Rain was my favourite at Somerset house too

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 23:18

It's no good. I've resisted and resisted but I need a full bottle. Imaginary authors falling into the sea. It's just beautiful Blush but NINETY ENGLISH POUNDS < lies down >

explodingkittens · 11/09/2017 07:16

Hi cat - don't suppose you could be more specific about the location of that 'South London tk Maxx' could you...? Wink

MrsMacNally · 11/09/2017 08:38

It's a proper grey and wet autumn day here...so have broken out The Great Randello. It's fabulous - puddings and lots of tobacco.

SOTD - Ruth Maestonbrok (spelling?) Amarosa

Very pretty and fantastic projection

Watermelon, tuberose and white flowers, violets, galbanum and vetiver (fragrantica- I would say the watermelon is soft, it's a fruity floral woody perfume - definitely not a pink minger!)

BluebellGal · 11/09/2017 13:45

Just tested Chanel Gabrielle on a strip- it's a pink minger. So bland and so not Chanel

Badders08 · 11/09/2017 13:48

Dior addict for me again today....so grey and wet here 😔
Next have a new series of scents I want to try....called pour femme in very guerlainesque flacons....

3DGlasses · 11/09/2017 14:06

Welcome back TheCat.

SOTD is Addict for me, too

I broke my no carbs kick this weekend for a slice of Victoria Sponge while watching Victoria and a second slice while watching The Bake Off on catch-up Grin. Was well worth it.

Welcome catfromJapan - are you waving a big blue fan? Wink Lots of cat love on this thread! If you like Iris, have you tried Prada's Infusion d'Iris? I think I read on here that the Perfume Parlour dupe is good for this one too.

Admiring all the cake talk (I am currently the cat stuck in the doorway Grin as DH bought me a huge chocolate tart from Waitrose to cheer me up as my legs aren't playing ball today )

Still not tried Gabrielle but I am imagining it as a nice perfume - inoffensive but not terribly interesting?

SOTD good old Mary Greenwell Fire again, I seem to be stuck in an Autumn rut of reaching for this one - I just associate it so much with the beginning of Autumn when the light starts to change, and the air is cold in the mornings! And the rest of the bloody day

I am determined to get a shower shortly and may reach for 4160s Be Careful What You Wish For as this is a perfect (auto correct just tried to change that to pervert Hmm) Autumn scent.
